After his last blog, I hate Marbury on a personal level.

Before that I had every reason to seriously dislike Marbury for being the type of selfish, underachieving and cancerous player he's been his entire career and for the egomaniacal (Starbury?) and self aggrandizing person that he appears to be.

I don't get this "hate" stuff either. Am I mocking him? Definitely. Am I ridiculing him? Absolutely. But do I hate him? No, but I guess it makes for a good sound bite and allows others to play the victim roles that they're so fond of.

Are you 100% sure you were dealing with Marbury in his blog?

His name is on it.

Besides, is Marbury 100% sure that he was dealing with islesfan in his blog?

Marbury comes out of his shell
BY KEN BERGER
ken.berger@newsday.com

July 22, 2007
Some people would call Stephon Marbury's offseason strange. With the help of technology, some people have said exactly that -- and much worse -- about his public behavior to his face.

To his virtual face, anyway.

The Knicks' point guard, in the middle of a 38-city tour to promote his Starbury brand, has been mocked for a freewheeling appearance on a local TV sports show that is all over YouTube.

Last week, he interacted with fans as a guest blogger with a local newspaper. Some of the online comments he received were encouraging. Some were mean, nasty and personal. Such is life as a member of the media, a vocation Marbury considers himself a part of now with his own TV show, "Stars on Stars."

Marbury has never shown this side before, preferring to keep his personal life out of public view. Not anymore.

"People are saying that I'm crazy and that I'm on drugs, and I like that they're saying that," Marbury said Friday while riding to the next stop on his tour, Marion, Ind. "It's called happy juice.

"I love basketball," he said. "Basketball is my life and my passion. It's not what defines me anymore. I allowed that to define me, and now I woke up and now I can smell the coffee."

Marbury, 30, caused quite a reaction last week when he revealed plans to play in Italy when his Knicks contract expires in two years. He was ridiculed for saying it would be like David Beckham coming to the United States to play soccer.

"I think people forget, you've got guys like Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Charles Bark.ley -- these guys never won championships but they had great careers," Marbury said. "Their careers get glorified for things that I did already."

In a lengthy interview, Marbury was at once contrite and unapologetic about how he is coming out of his shell.

"I felt like now is the time to allow people to understand who I was," Marbury said. "I'm in the best place in my life. I'm as happy as I've ever been.

"Believe me," he said, "I know what I'm doing . . . This is the walk that I like to walk. And the talk that I'm talking is real."

He plans to take his basketball career and sneaker/clothing line global. With one year left on his contract with Steve & Barry's, Marbury said he won't discuss renewing it until it expires. He hasn't spoken with the Knicks about his overseas plans, nor will he. "Nobody can tell me what to do when I'm a free agent," he said.

Marbury, whose shoes and clothing retail for $14.98, also revealed a previously unpublicized desire to team with Michael Jordan on a future shoe line. "Michael Jordan is the sneaker king, and that's never going to change," he said. "I want to do a sneaker with Michael Jordan called Star Jordan. If Michael would put out a sneaker called Star Jordan, then the whole world could buy it. Everybody would be able to get the sneaker at a low price."

Marbury said the public criticism he's received throughout his 11-year career was "a constant grind in my mind. I was fighting within myself. But I'm no longer fighting because I don't have to fight.

"I don't want to be carried on no throne," Marbury said, a reference to LeBron James' appearance last week on the ESPY Awards. "I want to walk with the people because I've never abandoned the people because I'm a servant to the people."

Although Marbury said he's no longer fighting, that doesn't mean his guard has been completely lifted.

"If you're going to write this, I'm going to make sure that they know that you got this from me, because I'm taping it just like you're taping it," Marbury said. ". . . I'm a journalist as well. Everybody is going to be held accountable for their words."

Some samples from the tape:

On his upbringing: "I lived in Coney Island, with -- -- in the staircase in a four-bedroom apartment with roaches and mice. That's how I lived growing up . . . People like me are either dead, in jail or selling drugs. That's not my life."

On those who speculated that he called his wife his "better ho" on a recent local TV appearance: "They need to check themselves, because if they think that I was going to be able to go home after calling my wife a ho, that's crazy. I said my better half, and my words got caught up so it sounded like I said 'better ho.' "

On Zach Randolph: "You've got two guys that can score in the post. Now we can play twin towers style. I don't have to say any more about that."

On Ron Artest: "I'd be open to playing with Ron Artest. He's built to play in New York. I love Ron Artest. He's my kind of guy."

Marbury will be 32 with 13 NBA seasons in his rear-view mirror in 2009, when his contract with the Knicks is up.

"I want to win a championship," he said. "That's it. I want to win the shiny stuff . . . They say that I'm crazy, I'm delusional and I'm bugging out. No, I'm not crazy and delusional. I'm telling the truth. Y'all don't like the truth, because the truth hurts."

"People are saying that I'm crazy and that I'm on drugs, and I like that they're saying that,"

"Let me ask YOU dudes a question. How would your mother feel if someone put you on blast in all the media and said you were on drugs in front of all your co-workers, your friends and family?"

The guy is certifiably schizo.

I can't wait until Marbury can be the object of derision for another franchise. I so wont miss him.

BTW, Cossucks, I figured out where I knew you from. At least we can count on intersecting on a Marbury thread. How've things been? You back on realgm? How do you like the Randolph move?

He's happy we're goofing on his drug use/abuse but is personally ashamed his mom, friends, family, and co-workers were informed about it through the media.

Its easy to criticize people.
Its easy to hate.

I try not to talk crazy on the internet, because I hate when people do it to me. Funny things is I could probably beat the holy living **** out of most people I encounter on the internets, but I dont think I should be talking big stuff behind a keyboard. That doesnt make me a man. And it doesn't make me feel good.

This makes me think about the guys who were throwing beer on Ron Artest in Detroit, and then ****ted on themselves when Guys came up in the stands. Think about the consequences of your actions.

If I had talked about Steph, I could invite him to my block for a peaceful meeting or for a fight. I can handle either one. But when you are so disrespectful, and you know you dont want a physical confrontation with someone, you are left in somewhat of an awkward position when that person confronts you. You are like the kid in the stands in Detroit, thiking about what youve done but its already too late. You have to change your tone, modify your language, show a little respect. These are all things you ought to have been doing all along.

Steph is my favorite player. I like his sneakers. I like his game. I dont think he is the anti-christ. And if Steph and Islesfan meet, I like Stephs chances. LOL! but I also think he was clearly buggin out on that show, calling his wife a 'better ho' was inappropriate, and I'd like to see him acknowledge that too. I think he could have handled the LB situation better too, although it was clearly instigated by LB.

There are appropriate ways to be critical of people. When men talk there should always be respect. When that respect is gone, be prepared for things to escalate.

Hi Guys,

Long time no communicate. When I saw that viles doing his usual craven routine on the Marbury blog and so many UK guys "contributing" to it as well, I just had to check in and see what the word was. And I have to say....

****

^^^That was a brilliant post Killa, every shot on the mark like Craig Hodges in the 3 point contest.

I wonder (Not really.) why Viles did not respond to you? You would think he would have some intelligent reply to show you why you were wrong, or at least a smart-ass reply to say back.

But no reply!?!?! Pretending like he didn't see it? How surprising!

I think it's because you have have met Viles in real life then exposed him in a few short paragraphs and well, to put is succinctly, you make him piddle in his pants!

I'd love to see his reply to you Killa. I don't think we will see it. I guess we have to take your wonderful analogy as the gospel of Viles character since he could not counter it.

*****

That's pretty rich to that viles is pretending that Marbury is avoiding him how, when in fact Marbury extended the olive branch to him! Even that Tony guy posted his phone number! I think a troll like Viles is savvy enough to create a generic yahoo e-mail address or such and post it on the blog, don't you guys think?

I think he didn't because the thought of facing up to a man such as Marbury after sniping at him in a way he never would in his face (As Killa pointed out.) makes him piddle in his pants...

Ways to contact Stephon Marbury:

1) http://www.starbury.com/events.php?show=upcoming&who=stephon (Upcoming Marbury appearences)

2) Marbury also runs many many camps and clinics around the city in his spare time, he can probably be found there.

3) Or contact his agent, I'm sure that's not too hard.

4) He probably can be found near the garden 41 nights a year, a stalker type like Viles should be able to unearth him.

5) Or post a generic e-mail address on Berman's blog, I'm sure he will be happy to pass along Vile's info to him.

Hey Blue and NYK, how you guys doin'?

Yo Eny, I won't be around here much, please send me an e-mail when you start your league up this year.

Peace peeps.

I think oohah is still upset with me.

I did enjoy his hit and run post, asking others to be stand up people. I guess it's do as oohah says, not as he does.

Well it was great to hear from you oohah. I'm doing very well, thanks for thinking of me. Hope you're enjoying your summer. Looking forward to your next missive.
