i'm not saying you're implying any racist points of view here Nalod, i know you better... i just don't see the relevance in the 2 points you were discussing... this is a business move on the part of both parties involved... it's not driven by politics, international trade economics, or anything of that nature in my eyes.

Actually it does matter. Not in the big picture but a swelling movment of chinese discontent in the US is likley brewing do to bad business practice.

This could also be bad practice.

Yi's "handlers" did posture for Bucks not to draft him and are using him going to CBA as posture. Just like Kobe threatened to play in ItalyBury. I don't know what Francis was gonna do, but its about leverage. Yi can play in China, but his handlers won't get anything either.

Question, while not enforceable, when a player applies to the NBA draft don't they sign anything to the effect they can't pick a team?

TMS, I see your point. Maybe Nalod just being a bit over the top on this. Not the first time.

I guess "Im mad as hell and I am not gonna take it any more!"

Hell of a movie btw!

I worked a lot with people from Mainland China and I can tell you that they have no moral in the way we understand it.
They are all business and they consider that any rule can be broken if both sides are OK with it.
They don't care about precedents and about other cases of whatever. Get what you want and forget about it.
They have a national game of getting each other in trouble and respect each other after getting used.
I learned not to trust anything they sad and always approach them from the position of strength.
After this I get respect and had a way with them.
The culture with more than 3 thousand years under the belt required respect and should be taken as it is. It is no way they will change.

fair points by both you & arkrud being made here... i just prefer not to overcomplicate matters in all this... it's just a player trying to milk whatever he can while he can... no different than other high profile rooks that have pulled the same thing after being drafted in my view... bidness be bidness.

Actually, a player does not have to sign with a team that drafts him. Enforcing such actions would violate civil liberties. In order for the CBA to be sanction under US law certain options must be put into place that gives a player an option.

If a Team has made a Required Tender to such a player and the player has not signed a Player Contract within the period between the Initial Draft and the Subsequent Draft, the Team that drafted the player shall lose its exclusive right to negotiate with the player and the player will then be eligible for selection in the Subsequent Draft.

right, Yi is taking a risk of his own by refusing to sign w/MIL... if they don't budge he'll have no other recourse but to stay in China & play internationally until something can be worked out... by then he might experience a career threatening injury or be exposed as a player w.less upside potential than originally thought... he's not required to sign w/a team he doesn't want to play for any more than MIL is not required to trade him if they don't want to give up his rights, but both sides have to realize that their decisions carry huge risks & they will have to be willing to live w/the consequences.
