I’m with Martin in the OG Anunoby plan. He passes both the eye test and the advanced stat test. I don’t know how Toronto fails to put it all together but they have good parts. Their roster is one of those rosters that just is trouble for the Knicks. Their biggest flaw is their lack of a center, which they should solve I. The draft this year.

They are prioritizing Barnes over OG and that is why OG is available. I’m not saying they’re wrong, either, but it’s similar to the Knicks prioritizing Barrett over Quickley. In fact, it’s near identical in reasoning and outcome.

I’d move Barrett straight up for OG and not think twice.

OG has the better biometrics, hustle, and efficiency numbers. Yes, he is older, but 25 isn’t an issue for me.

If I were Toronto’s GM, I’d be more likely to try and move Barnes for a center if Barnes has perforce value. Run it back with FVV/Trent/OG/Siakam and their newest center. Let Detroit give them one of their Centers (Duren or Wiseman). But if they choose to stick with Barnes, I will take OG all day.

My guess is that a bench rotation of IQ, Trent, Hart, iHart with any of Grimes, OG, Brunson in a small ball rotation with spacing and iHart flipping assists would be so much fun to watch and even Thibs would prob crack a smile at that lineup. Throw in the bounce man himself, Jericho could be nice in a pinch.

Total selfless crew, uuuhhhm except Randle of course, but super deep and Thibs would probably die and come back with an elite spacing plan with defense options galore.

I'm not crazy about wasting assets for Trent. We're pretty good at the two-guard in terms of cap management and talent. I can see OG, depending on the price. If it takes a star level package to get OG, I'd just assume wait until an actual star becomes available.

I'd say Grimes with a purer short, but worse defense( which says a lot about Grimes since Trent is solid on defense) and less utility as a ball handler. Grimes isn't there yet, but I do see him reaching Trent's level.

Yeah that was my initial thoughts. If he signed a reasonable contract, he'd be excellent piece off bench.

He would be great if we are replacing someone in the rotation.

When you look at our rotation;

Mitch and Hartenstein occupy all center minutes and I expect both back
Randle, Barrett, Grimes, Brunson all play 30+ mins. Hart and Quickley off the bench can easily take up starters minutes (30+ mins each) and cover all of the backup minutes. Knicks can easily have an 8 man rotation with everyone healthy. If Knicks decide to trade Barrett then it will open up minutes. Even if they move Toppin, they have to also move Barrett to have real minutes for a guy like Trent since Grimes, Hart and Quickley will all see more minutes next year. I wonder if the Knicks would do Barrett in a deal for Trent or if politics would get in the way.

Definitely in the same mold. A bigger version of Norman Powell. Smaller version of Josh Hart.

I think the term "wasting assets" for a player is misleading. Gotta give to get in this league. We are likely to be cap constrained for the near future, so addition is either through the draft or trades. I think the caliber of players that are considered an upgrade to the rotation are probably not available for the MLE, Vet Min or Bi-annual exception. That leaves value add trades.

I keep looking for guys with positional length, good 3pt percentages that play defense and have high hustle stats. I would fill my roster with these kinds of guys and never think I wasted a pick.

To put it differently. Without giving up 4 picks and 3 pick swaps, who are you adding to the below roster to make it better? I'd put Larry Nance, Jr in at backup PF for the MLE and call it the 2024 rotation.
