Hopefully he did the honorable thing and spoke with Houston first. Then asked for some shooting tips.

Also ask Kevin Knox who wore it for 3 seaosns too!
Pablo before him for two seasons.
Jericho Sims, Chirs Wilcox, and the unforgettable Kyle O'Quinn!
But for damn sure ask for shooting tips!

The intention behind your reply to me? Is due to other players who wore it after Houston over these years, you feel that the gesture to ask Houston is no longer honorable? Or maybe it's to proclaim a double standard towards Sochan in comparison towards the other players you named who previously wore it after Houston?

And why would I ask those players at this point? If anything, I would look to Houston if these guys have done the honorable gesture in reaching out to him when selecting the number he wore for the Knicks. If we're going to go the literal route...

To circle back and close. My hidden intentions of bringing up Houston. He was a part of the last finals run the Knicks had. Seeing the number highlighted right now reminded me of that. Tryna tap into that energy. Hopefully #20 is an impact player in the playoffs like the one who wore it in 99.

PS: Watching he shooting stars highlights last night. Shot is still pure!

Relax son, We know alan can still shoot and was great, we just don't know if he can teach it.
I doubt anyone has to ask for permission given the number is not retired and so many others hae worn it.

Knicks travel with like a dozen coaches and I gather a solid pro like Allan would not want to step on the toes of a coach and his pupil but if he can effectively teach it there is no harm by it.

Said hopefully would ask for shooting tips. Which could be any light hearted conversation. Didn't say Houston should become a Knicks shooting coach.
Also never said he had to ask for permission. Said hopefully he did the honorable thing asking Houston. Honorable implies that even though he most likely didn't need permission. He still went out of his way to offer the gesture.

These were throwaway statements practically though. You felt the need to dive deeper. I'm just matching your enthusiasm.

Interesting thread. I have listened to podcasts, read forums, articles, blogs whatever and I have one question. This kid has modeled so much of his game after Rodman (he said he respects Rodman, but doesn't want to be a Rodman clone, and one of his favorite players is Dray Green because of his "annoying" energy ...

Just curious, why is everyone pigeon holing him because he can't shoot 3's and pointing out all this kids weaknesses while ignoring most of his strengths. Instead of being a player like Kawhi, what if he is a player in the mold of a Rodman, or Green, or a wing version of a guy like Marcus Smart or Pat Beverly (I see him in this light) ?

How would opinions change if he maximized his strengths instead of trying to improve weaknesses he may not be able to improve?

Draymond Green is a HOF player with a .320 career shooting percentage from 3pt.
You bring up a good point.
I suppose the answer is fans know better!
But......
SAS has surplus players due to drafting strategy to rebuild the last 5 years or so.......
They like many teams are grooming players who can shoot.
They could not get a trade for him.
While the cap system has many holes, this kid found a new home and perhaps a path to economic security and an opportunity to excel.

The Sochan Era starts.........tonite.

Interesting that SAS could find no takers for him. That they waited this long before to trade him is also (On them) interesting.
Then they do him a solid.
Perplexing. I don't know what we have in store for him this season but its nice he is excited to be here and Knicks seem to be glad to have him too!

Perhaps this was done to keep Josh fresh for playoffs. Lets be real, his legs are good and he is shooting well. If need be we have a new special friend for Cade and Harden. At 6-8 he can also help keep OG minutes down. OG injury might take a while. Knicks are deeper and flexible with him added.
His presence might eat into Mo's minutes but my sense could be Mo defensively is not there yet. No doubt has the athletic abilty but gets a bit lost on assignment and teams will get him crossed up. Come playoff time that gets exaggerated. I won't speak for beyond this season as many things could change for many reasons.
Bottom line is he could help us now. Yes, I am worried about Cleveland as Harden is a bigger body than Harden defensively who can rebound. That he need not carry them at his age is also a factor. If the chemistry is correct this magnifies DMitchell powers. The made some other moves that also shoujld be a concern.

My likely unpopular opinion is I’m okay playing Sochan over Diawara for now so Diawara doesn’t play himself into a bigger contract. Let’s keep him in development mode this year, resign him on a team friendly deal, and let him blow up next year. As for Sochan, if he’s not playing center I have a hard time seeing him as a positive since he doesn’t even look at the basket on offense.

Sochan can cut to the basket and finish quite well if Towns can connect with him while having the ball behind the 3 point line. As for Diawara, we need to bury him on the bench until off-season so that we can sign him to a team friendly deal and don't have to bid against other teams that much.
