It's obvious Thibs is in Sims corner and giving him a chance but Sims looks almost exactly same as 1st day on court as a rookie.

He is a big that can't score and does NOT protect the rim. He's always in the area but rarely impactful. Criticize Kat defense all we want but he's hauling in +12 boards and putting up nights of 34, 44 - etc. Sims is also I think 6'9" -- with his hair.

Maybe Precious is the key - not sure.

It took 2 years of Deuce deucing it up before he was good. And then it still took him until January to really get his minutes and show his stuff. 2 and a half years.

Sims has really not had any court time yet. Other guys need to get Sims looks at the rim, and Brunson keeps not doing that IMHO

Agree on Brunson point - it's very frustrating watching some of his decisions early on.

On Deuce/Sims compare --- I don't know. If you watched Deuce in college he was very good scorer/shooter - particularly in mid-range. I think his issue was building confidence, depth/distance and getting his body physically ready for the league. Court awareness was never an issue with Deuce - though we did try to force him into a PG role which isn't a great fit.

With Sims - correct me if I'm wrong - I think he played 4 college years and is now year 4. Physical tools were never the issue but even after 7 years of college/pro's the kid literally has nothing in his bag outside of a gather, collect and dunk with 2 hands (that is it). But that isn't my biggest problem with Jerico (again after 7 years) he doesn't recognize actions and is seemingly always 1/2 second/step late to contest or make a play. Last night during game (D. Wilkins - Hawks broadcast) specifically called out and replayed Sims getting rebound under the hoop and never looking at the basket or thinking of putting ball in the hoop. Just 1 example but pretty much what he does.

Deuce is 24 and Sims 26.

Also - Sims is short for his position (measured 6'9" at the combine).

Not saying he can't make a jump I just really doubt it's coming -- think he is simply filling time waiting for Precious/Mitch and even for Thibs to build Huck trust.

3. Not going to beat Celtics? Not sure that was ever in the cards this season as teams need time to gel and get depth.

Some are so fickle and have no patience. Already questioning Brunson! It's very annoying! Considering this was expected before the season. Everyone and their mother knew we'd be a .500 or so team until we mesh and jell as a team. Thibs teams don't get going until after the New Year anyways.

I think the critiques (at least in my case) are more so observations that he is missing basic reads and playing too much iso. It's really pretty apparent so far and he's even struggling to get the ball up against pressure and initiate sets.

Does that mean he won't figure it out? No.

The thing is - we really don't need him searching for 30 and 40 point nights now --- we need him taking good shots and initiating offense for EVERYONE. If he averages 20-8 and has the ball flying around the court - we are golden but him putting up 35-40 point games isn't the right avenue with this squad. Again - IMO.

We’ve played 7 games. Cleveland is 9 & 0.

I admit we are short handed and guys might still be trying to work themselves into shape (Brunson?).

But if this is happening now, 7 games in, what the F happens in January? Are we counting on M Rob to put up big minutes? Because he’ll be winded after 5 minutes on the court?

We haven’t had any back to backs or rough stretch’s of multiple games in a few nights.

Inexcusable that anyone is ‘tired’. And I’m not directing this at you Nalod- just using this as yes- they have looked tired.

And the road trip is 4 games and most were in the eastern half of the country. What happens when they go to the west coast and Texas?

For the last few games it seems knick starters are playing 38-41 min a game. On the road.
Our bench? Outside of deuce nothing significant.

What happens if this is not fixed? Statistically injuries will happen at a higher frequency. We either start getting guys back, go deep into the bench, sign guys not on rosters, or make trades because trades always improve things !! LOL. They don't.

This is how I see it. Can't bank on Shamet to "come back" cuz he was never really in. Precious is still a way. I suppose Cam is day to day?
Thibs has to decide we lose cuz we tired or we loose with Dadiet.
Why not play Huk because we not winning anyway? Thats always a good fan answer.

Fan answer? How about Atlanta going with Zaccharie Risacher for 37 minutes- yes, he has more talent than the guys we picked- but he is 19. Is he mistake free? Would Thibs even give him 10 minutes in a game?

It’s early- but I see a play in team if they are lucky.

Randle was not good on D- but the dude was intense. I think that is what this group is missing.

Was not a fan of the big trade. Thought we lost two dogs that were gamers.
However, Watching the first unit , we are a better team. Lots of positives.
KAT is starting to get comfortable and looking for his offense more. JB is JB. May need to get some more PG duties on his mind. Ie. Getting others going early. Side pieces have been looking and getting their shots. (OG, Bridges, Hart)
Was Not a fan of what we gave up for Bridges or what some pegged Bridges to be.
However, very impressed with his Defense and his mid range. Feel he just has to stop with the quick contested threes.

Right now the key is depth. We came of a night where our bench scored 3 points?
Simms has been absent, Deuce inconsistent and Payne hurt.
Team needs depth to get healthy and first unit to continue to gel.
Both things that are sure to happen.

Agree with everything bolded....I mentioned in another thread that despite some of the inconsistencies on the offensive side of the ball, we are still the 4th best offensive team in the league (FG%) and 1st in 3 pt%. The ball and player movement and the shooting that we have seen in spurts is some of the best basketball I've seen from a Knicks team in a very long time. We have a bunch of high IQ players on this team and I think its just a matter of time before we see more consistency on the offensive side.

Defense is my biggest concern, and I think getting our bench healthy, Precious soon and Mitch in January will help a ton. Both will help on the boards and I would love to see Precious get some mins here and there with Towns to give us some more size. Also, speaking of chemistry, Mikal and OG need to get on the same page too....it takes time.

i got the sense we were taking some possessions off. Teams are going to play harder against us, not just give up because on paper we're supposedly better. Somehow we made their rookie look like an instant all star after an entitely underwhelming beginning of his career.

complete knee jerk but are we missing Johnny Flynn? He was always running up to Thibs with some observation or another. Now Mo Cheeks is half asleep
