I'm going to reserve judgment on this until we hear directly from KP how he feels. It also makes me wonder if Melo spoke to KP and influenced his view on things.
He is the only young player that has a contract other than Willy that can say something. This is a big deal. So was the top down comment. Phil has created such a dysfunctional situation. Why is Dolan always so loyal to the guys that just suck so bad at their jobs? Grunwald had a winning record and got the Knicks to the playoffs both years he was in place. Walsh was pretty good and certainly wasn't dysfunctional like Isiah. The league had to intervene to get Isiah removed. I believe Dolan teared up when he replaced Layden. Now Phil is getting two more years.
I actually can't WAIT for Melo to be gone!!! This team needs to be free of this drama. I still want to hear from KP on this to see what his explanation is. He's going to have to talk with Phil and get clarity on things.
Phil is doing the right thing for this franchise. KP needs to understand that Melo's agenda isn't good for this franchise. One day KP is going to realize this.
I know you can't wait for him to leave. But dont expect the dysfunction to go away. Don't expect the team to start winning. Don't expect Jeff Hornacek to be given a real chance to coach with autonomy. Don't expect anything back for Melo. Don't expect Phil to mentor more or for his mentoring to have a positive effect, and don't expect KP to stick around if this nonsense continues.
Yikes, someone is bitter
Is there something there that you think isn't accurate? I just listened to Phil for 50 minutes. Nothing he said has given me anymore confidence that he is going to be a better executive. Someone, Bobby Marks?, said several months ago that based on his experience he would expect that KP's agent would have already contacted the KNicks about concerns.
all of what you said was about predicting the future and you want to ask me what isn't accurate? All of it?
Nix tried to predicts the future all the time but you don't call him bitter. It's amazing how Phil is involve in turmoil every year but yet we are supposed to think things will change.
Have you read Nix's posts? His are the opposite of bitter.
Bitter, stubborn and with no logic.
Phil was brought here to change the culture- What culture has he built? Throw coaches and players under the bus? Give up on guys after one year? Try to win now and also build for the future? When buiding now make sure you pick guys that may break down in a month? When building for the future by drafting guys and then trading them within a year?
Now that the only reason, most on here, keep using to defend Phil, has shown he is not happy with Phil, the logic is to stay with the same stubborn view that Phil is headed in the right direction. Because when the "Future of the Franchise" does these type of things, its a good indication the person in command has control and is headed in the right direction?
The culture Phil has brought actually irks many fans and he summarized it in the press conference when asked about tanking. His reply (I'm paraphrasing) was, "That's not how we play, we play to win." Just because Melo doesn't get that message, doesn't mean it isn't being transmitted loud and clear. For Melo to whine about "I want to win" could not be more absurd.
Another cultural milestone is Phil's loyalty to Hornacek. Melo and his gang ran Rambis out and Phil was having none of a second act. the players don't employ the coaches, the team does. What coach was "thrown under the bus"? The coach who was too busy having an affair rather than tend to the business of getting the team off to a strong start?
Phil's respect for the difficulties of being a player between a rock and a hard place was evident in his handling of Rose. He could have been a draconian A-hole about the incident but he wasn't. The media spins this as a sign of weakness instead of strength. When he talks about Noah he called him a "warrior" - a word long associated with Ewing and Oakley. Yet fans who make a BFD about the Oakley/Dolan incident have no problem treating Noah (and Rose) like garbage. The misfortune of players injuries does not signify a bad trade. Injuries are part of the game and open a door to opportunity both for the injured and the player in waiting. The Noah trade turned out to be an exchange for Hernangomez. But fans are suddenly fiscal accountants rather than rational talent evaluators.
And the players Phil has brought in are what he can afford, find, and legitimately identify as fitting. Many are here one year and are quickly signed by contenders. Wow. What a failure.
Who knows if the team is headed in any direction. The chemistry of the players and coaches dictate that. What is observable and obvious is that the general talent level keeps rising. At some point there's a tipping point where it will suddenly click and we'll hopefully see a GSW kind of breakout season. But no one can guarantee a thing. And you know that so why the chronic whining? There are twenty-nine other teams who sell T-Shirts - find one you like and go. Like Melo, you may need a change of scenery.
Do you read what you are writing? So your telling me, Phil force placing Rambus on the staff and forcing JH away from the style of coaching, he is known for, to a style he has never coached before, is not throwing someone under the bus? What other Executive is coming on the court and making his coach run his system? What other executive highers his buddy to "Make sure I have a connection to the way things should be implemented? What is this High School? You hire someone,(Coach), because you think he is best qualified, and then you stay the hell out of his way. If you can't, then you either hired the wrong man for the job or you do not know how to be an executive leader. This is why Knick fans deserve the **** Dolan puts out. Their expectations for this professional franchise is that of a high school team. Not a professional sports organazation. Smh. No hope to shed some logic to those that cant see Phil for the Dolan Starphuck shield. Phil should either coach or be thrown out on his ass. He was not given 50M plus to quasi coach the Knicks and make us more of a joke. He is not an NBA Executive!! Lakers knew this. Kerr knew this.
Horney isn't "known" for a coaching style. He's only coached a few years. He got the job because he and Phil had a mutual interest in how a team should play and Hornacek was interested in realizing their mutual vision. Rambis wasn't forced on anyone. I don't think Phil thought Rambis had done a bad job or deserved firing because of a resistant group of players. Rambis provides Horney with an expertise with which Hornacek can calibrate and recalibrate how the team i doing. As Phil talked about in his press conference, the offense was more than adequate. The defense was not and that's where Rambis focused his attention. You can see it made an impression with the younger players.
Hornacek does not act or sound like a guy who's been thrown under a bus. He seems genuinely interested in getting it right and has no problem with Phil running interference with players in practice. If he wanted out I'm sure he'd say so.
In many ways it is high school. The core is young and the organization went through many phases. Getting it righted isn't an office memo task. Phil was "out of the way" until the team turned south. Is he supposed to just say F'it?
Your Dolan rant makes zero sense. Dolan has hired and entrusted a long term plan with Phil. Phil is making executive decisions.
Contray to popular belief Phil *is* and NBA exec. So is Magic Johnson, Stan Van Gundy, Tom Thibideau, Michael Jordan, Mark Cuban, Jerry West, Pat Riley, Scott Layden, and hundreds more. Their common qualifications are? Their teams have won how many championships in the past few years? C'mon man, its easy to do - RIGHT?
