We had plenty of cap space for LeBron in 2010. How did that work out for us? Just because we have cap space doesnt necessarily mean that we will attract the best FAs.

Look at the pool though.

If we strike out on Curry, CP3, and Westbrook you wouldn't still jizz yourself ending up with Gordon Hayward and Greek Freak?!

I understand there are some good players out there, we aren't a lock to sign any of them. This team as you know has been a hot mess for 16 years. I believe most FAs who arent just out for a big paycheck are trying to find a winning situation. Moves like this would make me think twice if I were an FA.

I do think it's interesting that most of Phil's moves have been hidden from the media until it actually happens (see Hornacek, Rolo, Afflalo, KP, THJ/Grant trade, etc.). The Rose talk was leaked last week.

*Disclaimer* I still think Phil's in charge, just wondering where the leak came from.

Might actually complicate things from a public relations angle.

Plays 70+games has good stats, and we end up in the playoffs...what do you pay for a guy who you still fear might be injured in the future- a guy who takes a long time to recover. He would be looking for his last max contract- you willing to sign him for 4/5 years at max money? You would be under a lot of pressure to sign him, unless you were sure you could get a Westbrook.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

You do the ballsy move and go great guns for Westbrook (ESPECIALLY IF we are able to sign his buddy this year)

Nixluva is posting triangle screen grabs, even when nobody asks - Fishmike. LOL So are we going to reference that thread like the bible now? "The thread of Wroten Page 14 post 9" - EnySpree

I dont think Rose will ever be the player he once was but hopefully I am wrong

I do not believe Robin Lopez, KP, CA FIT TOGETHER either

I would've loved to have gotten Dinwiddie back -- since he was just traded though, I don't think it would've been possible.

Look out for Dinwiddie/Grant in Chicago now. Very quietly, that has a chance to be a very nice tandem.

Don't like this trade unless something else is coming over.

I don't understand it at all, if it is true, unless their are other things in the works.

Can anyone tell me why this trade makes sense?

no

I agree with this. Briggs I think was talking about how KP played his worst ball next to Lopez. I disagree--he either played well or was at his best in fact with Lopez on the floor.

No. I don't get it. Rolo was a really good value signing, and I think Grant was going to have a breakout year.

We get nothing back but a 2nd? Wow, bend over Phil.

We must be looking to sign someone big in FA or this is (another) disaster waiting to happen.

That is the only thing I can think of..and I'm also thinking about FAs next year, but...

Rose has 1 year left...what do you do with him next year if he has a decent but not great season. You know the guy will want a max contract. Maybe you get the #8 seed, lose to the Cavs in rnd 1, earn a midrange #1 draft pick, and then you have to debate over signing an injury prone player to a big contract.

Rose is not even a facilitator as a PG.

Hope I get proven wrong, but this does not seem like a wise trade at this point.

If Rose has a decent year then perfect we don't have to put all our eggs in Westbrook's basket

Rose doing that would be a nice problem to have. If he has truly transformed (i.e., adapts his game to more midrange and not hard drives non-stop) and is healthy (we'll have a season to judge with all the insider information a NYK team Dr can provide) we will be in a better position than anyone to retain him if that's what makes sense.

I would like to see him paired with a D-playing--sniper at the 2 guard (something he didn't really have in CHicago).

this is an intriguing deal. Total boom or bust. My initial reaction still stands: did we really need to give that much up for him? Rolo and Grant were not bad contracts (ala Shump and JR could be). We could have cleared cap space getting more picks if that was the deal driver. It has to be the case that JH and Phil really think Rose is going to blossom (sorry about the pun)

VCoug wrote:Fucking terrible trade. How do you give up a good center on a GREAT contract and a decent young PG on his rookie deal for Rose? A guy who hasn't made a single positive contribution on the court since 2011?!?! If we were that desperate for cap space next summer we couldn't have found some team to trade Lopez to where'd we get actual assets back? Or, why didn't we just not sign him last year? What the **** are we doing? Is there any semblance of a plan?

Yes. TANK HARD for the best draft in years in 2017. I hear you can plug a few holes in the draft.

Also, DON'T SPEND! Save it for next year.

http://hoopshype.com/2016/05/14/nba-free-agency-2017-the-top-players/

I hear $60m can get you 2 MAX STUDS fairly easily.

Couldn't we have done that without trading for Rose? We couldn't get something at least decent back for Lopez?

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

It's a strange move, no doubt. I can't say I'm not thinking some of the same things. It comes off to me like Phil placated Melo with this move, is trying to get the team back to the playoffs next season but is coveting the future cap space more than anything with this move.

Still, Phil just gifted one of the best young Centers in this league to his old team, a good prospect in Grant, for what? A big name whose best days are well behind him who can walk after a year. Sounds like Isiah is the one who is really empowered here.

Dont like it at all. Rose isnt the same player he was 3—4 years ago, he is the most injury prone, and he is in a walk year. Im glad jose is gone but im mad jerian grant is gone i was a huge fan of jerian. I admit i bashed the lopez signing at first but robin really became a asset to the knicks and KP. The Bulls have our number when it comes to trades. Unless we are guaranteed to get Durant this was a step back IMO
