Gasol stayed in Memphis because he likes living in and playing for Memphis. LOTS of prime professional athletes have stayed or gone to a destination NOT because it gave them the best chance to win.

Melo signed in NY 16 months ago when it was perfectly obvious Chicago and Houston were better "win" options.

His actions suggest he just wants to be in NY.

he was winning enough to not have enough of a reason to leave. They are a perennial playoff team.

Leaving is not easy and as soon as you go to another team, you are not a lifer. Its hard to be a lifer if your team is not winning.

Melo is already not a lifer since he was not drafted by NY so to me its a no brainer and IMHO inevitable.

Since you're involving precedent, can you name a guy who engineered a trade to a big market (that happened to be the market he was born), signed again with that team as a free agent despite there being poor odds of making the postseason right away and better options, asked for and got a full no trade clause, and then later asked for a trade away from that team because he hadn't won a championship, and received it to a contender of his choice?

Gasol = homer who has won for many years and has played in many playoff games. Karl Malone like
Bosh = won in Miami. Left toronto because everyone leaves toronto (bad comp) he is playing with house money
Melo = left his first team already, says fuk NY so he is not thrilled (perhaps), is 31 in the decline and REALLY wants to win now. Barkley going to Houston is somewhat similar.

What are the chances that Melo will be traded in your opinion if the knicks are 500 at the all start break and / or 500 or less to finish the season?
