"But Allan Houston, supposedly the GM in training, looms as a potential successor. The word around Knicks camp is that Dolan wouldn’t hesitate to promote him to head coach if the Knicks don’t turn things around sooner than later. Houston’s $100 million contract placed the Knicks in salary cap purgatory for years. Maybe having to coach this Knicks team would be his payback."

Hey, our GM has no experience of being a GM, so why not hire a coach with no experience of coaching. Remember, only loyalty Dolan counts!

What also counts to Dolan is trying to keep up in the Billionaires' Boys Club pissing contest with the Russian's toy on Atlantic Avenue. Even the Nets sucking this bad is bad news for us fans, because it doesn't put the pressure on Dolan to get out of his team's way and put his trust in competent, creative basketball people.

We need a top to bottom rebuild to have any chance at seeing the second round before the next decade.

I think he does all of those things except maybe attend practice. Nut I also think he is a classy, stand up guy and doesn't talk about it.

I'd be delighted to be wrong but . . . I'd say the odds are slim to none that JVG comes back. He's too smart for that. Even if Dolan pays him in chocolate kisses and makes him coach/GM and promises to give him a couple years without worrying about losing . . . and Dolan goes on an extended tour with his band in South America . . . JVG knows that the Knicks are stuck with iffy players for years and Dolan's not trustworthy. JVG's not taking over.

I think he also knows that coaching tears him apart and that he has a nice thing going working as an announcer. I think it would take a very unique situation for him to come back to the bench. I don't think that situation is with the Knicks. It would be great if it was.

What iffy players, the roster is almost naked after next season.

JVG will always stand up for other coaches, i never heard him say one negative thing about any coach in the league or who ever coach in the league..Out of respect for Woodson he would wait until they fired him and even then, its highly unlikely for him to jump on 5 wks into the season..

Clyde's job is easy and and casual, probably the way he likes it, why would he want to coach? He gets to rhyme all game and honestly the way he does the job it requires very little preparation one game to the next, usually breen does the research and Clyde responds. Clyde is an old man now, he probably feels like he's from a different time than the current players. I'm sure he'd give them plenty of help if they wanted it.

This roster is total ass they should overhaul this crap ASAP. I can't see how JVG can help this team, when JVG's offensive philosophy is similar to Woody. The defense would improve slightly that is about it. Without a good roster I can't see this team winning anything.

Why the hell would anyone want to coach this team? Especially a guy with a good job like JVG. Yeah, coaching the Knicks in the 90s was a great job. Now it's one of the worst jobs in sports when you factor out salaries.

What He Said

“Listen, Mike Woodson, I believe I have my numbers right, was 18-6 when he took over for Mike D’Antoni,” the former Knicks coach said on “The Mike Lupica Show” on ESPN New York 98.7 FM. “Then he won a division title last year. Then they made some roster moves, had some injuries and so now they are starting Kenyon Martin, Andrea Bargnani, [Carmelo] Anthony, [Raymond] Felton and [Iman] Shumpert. That is the strength of their team.

“Their depth, with some of these injuries, is non-existent,” Van Gundy continued. “Listen this isn’t a coaching issue right now. This is a roster issue. ... The last problem the Knicks have -- the very last problem -- is a coaching issue. Mike Woodson is an outstanding basketball coach who has done an outstanding job. So how can a guy that went from brilliant, be on the proverbial hot seat 16 games into the next season?”

“To a point [the Knicks can turn things around], they can make the playoffs. But it is a limited roster, very limited roster, with guys who are on the downside of their career. To do it, [Tyson] Chandler has to come back and be really good.

“Carmelo Anthony has to get really efficient offensively and some of the guys who are really struggling shooting the ball are going to have to spread the floor for Anthony so he has enough room to do his work. And they are going to have to shoot the three-point shot a lot better.”

I hope you guys are young because the only way we see a winner is when Dolan is gone. We have to out live him

JVG knows this roster sucks but Woody is part of the problem here. He needs to move away from the crappy point guards and use the Rook. It's time to stop trying to put a square peg in the circle slot it simply isn't working.

Knicks need a backup center and a upgrade at PG badly.

We are getting trash production from both our SGs as well.

not to mention trash production from our SF and PF as well.

Little by little Dolan will learn to step away and will only be seen smiling during big playoff games

Get I get a amen?!

We got old PGs who can't stay in front of anyone. JVG isn't going to change that.

Knicks aren't getting blown out nightly. They are losing close games that they should be winning.

Our guard play is terrible. No defense and no offense.

i disagree completely, he can probably run circles around woodson if he wanted to in terms of coaching, motivation, and overall smarts on defense.
