Hoping this move was done because they want JR to be a good big brother. Maybe it reigns him in some.

Yeah. The Knicks move sort of punishes them on its own. The AK signing benefits the Nets and appears to circumvent the cap in some way. I think I read something about Krilenko's wife having a business connection with Prok but I might be mistaken.
