I dont think anyone cant expect him to be a star type player--he wasnt a star at Michigan--he didnt shoot a high % but he was a good team player who has a strong confidence level plays very hard makes plays and some big shots at times. Sg is a tough pick--you will have your 4-13's with your 5-9's When Hardaways dad said the Knicks were going to draft THJ no matter what at 24--to me that means someone thinks very very highly of him --I dont think his talent merits those accolades but he should be a nice role player. There will be several 2nd rounders much better.
I actually like the Hardaway pick along with cj leslie and the prigs resigning were the moves that i actually agreed with.

THJ is definitely streaky but I like that he wasn't afraid to take it to rim. Showed a variety of moves and we can always use more instant offense off the bench.

He's an ok pick. I think picking the big guy for our team was smarter. It's pretty easy to find a 6-5sg in the d league. Fa whatever. Much harder to find a skilled 7 ft.

If we sign Jeremy Tyler(2 yr please!), I think we more than make up for not drafting a big. He looks like he can give you some minutes now, can't say that about most young big men. Tyler is only 22 also.

As long as we don't see another tale of two halfs on a regular basis, Tyler would be a great pickup. Just needs work on his post game from what little I saw. Once Tyler started doing a better job of anticipating where on the floor he should be, Tyler turned things around.

Gal Mekel looking like a very serviceable PG in the league between a young Udrih and JJ Barea

Dallas ended up with

Monta Ellis
Calderon

Larkin
Mekel

I think Calderon is more a SG and a efficient % shooter that has PG's skills, with high IQ, but with his lack of speed/has trouble facilitating at times like a traditional PG but compliments Monta Ellis very well together as they are both complete opposites while capable of playing both positions

Larkin broke his foot in practice but he is a JJ Barea with more athleticism/speed, like a bigger Nate Robinson but with real PG skills
Mekel is just a solid young pro, in the mold of a young Udrih

all of which I think are better PG's than what we currently have, none of which were on their team last season
What was our greatest position we needed to upgrade this off season?

We got a bunch of SG's instead, I just see someone getting traded in the near future with
Hopefully, it isn't Iman, because he is the only one that has the toughness and wants to play in a TEAM CONCEPT
I know he has a lot of things he must improve on but I know he will get better with his worth ethic
It would likely take another season or so to see his improvements because the injury set him back a lot in terms of development/health

JR
Iman
Tim Hardway JR

I wonder if Atlanta would part with Jared Cunningham for salary cap purposes
He still has a high potential, but we don't even have 2nd rounders to make them consider such a move because we constantly overpay for any trade/talent

Would do a

Tim Hardway JR
Ronnie Brewer's trade exemption

for

Jared Cunningham
Mike Muscula

watched a few games yestrday the only two players that stood out to me was CJ Mccolum and Ray Mccallum. Erick Green looked god awful he seemed to be stuck between 1-2 and did not look good. Nate Wolters was better than Green--but did not play his game he took not 1 three and while he showed some nice passes tried to drive too much although he looked a worlds better than Green.Last tidbit Ricky Ledo looked much more mature than all of these other 2 Gs he did not shoot just to shoot--he made his shots rebounded passed and looked like a role player you could trust

did you watch the Dallas game?
I was impressed with Mekel and the other G on Dallas's roster

I like both Mccalums and I wonder if Isiah Thomas (with Vasquez/Mccallums in Kings, would be available for a salary dump for Brewer's trade exemption *would like Patty Mill's too*
Had we saved some of our 2nd round draft picks (even OKC's 2nd rounder next summer), I think we could actually make some decent trades to improve the team, and even would have been able to acquire a pick/steal in this draft with multiple teams with too many picks

Also regarding Wolters, I think he was trying to show that he could in fact play the facilitating role at PG
He actually has a very good handle, decent facilitating skills/court vision, a good floater, high BB IQ, and on top his deadly shot
His problems are lacking speed/quickness/athleticism, to play in the NBA level
Will he be able to defend a position, stay in front opponents PG, which I think he must do because he is not strong or big enough to defend 2's
If he can figure it out like Redick then he has a shot to stay in the NBA, if not it will be very tough
It will take time, patience, and a couple years of HARD WORK/TRAINING to be able to play
I think it is possible but just don't think he was a good fit for the Knick's

Till then, he can play 10minutes or less a night if he improves as a 3rd string PG vs 3rd string competition
We have a couple of years to find out if he will be the next

Reddick, Jimmer, Matt Carroll, Ben Hansborough, or Andy Rautins

but

he doesn't look like a Steve Nash to me

One of the more intriguing players on our SL roster is Eloy Vargas. Very interesting player -- 6'11" 245 -- looks like he started his college career at Florida his freshman year and never played, then when to a junior college (Miami-Dade Community College) where he put these stellar numbers: In 25 games, 21.1 ppg on 47% FGs, 77% FTs, 14.2 rpg, 3.44 blocks and over 2 steals a game. I know that's junior college but those are monster numbers and shows production in all the right places for a big man. After that, he transferred over to Kentucky -- never really got any meaningful time there but Coach Cal obviously saw something in him to make him a part of his championship level team. Kind of an accomplishment in itself to even make that Kentucky team at that time.

The man really passed the eye test the other day in about 20 mins. I though he was fairly active and looked good... Very good size, looks to have an above average skillset. Interested to see more of this kid to see what he really is and what could be (I have no idea after the one SL game -- Channing Frye with more rebounding, shot-blocking maybe? Who knows?). He might be one of these total surprise guys outta nowhere that's been held down in college development-wise only to emerge when he's finally given an opportunity. We know what Tyler is pretty much and AJ Matthews doesn't look like NBA material.. I say play this kid Vargas 30 mins a game here and let's find out the most we possibly can about him. Doesn't look to be the strongest and most physical big man around but he's got plus size, a really well-developed left hand finishing around the basket, looks like he's got a knack for blocking a shot and he's got a real soft touch from mid-range.

Those are great numbers. My guess is most junior college competition is higher then what a guy like Matthews faced against d3 schools.

Agreed. Don't really like the look of Matthews myself -- I feel bad saying it because I really root for the young player, esp. a guy with the deck stacked against him, but he just doesn't seem to have it for the next level. Looks pretty clumsy, awkward.. Even Tyler to a lesser degree -- this guy's activity level was pretty high and he can play pretty physical but again, not very fluid and slightly on the awkward side...Out of these 3 bigs, Vargas looked different to me. We're gonna need to see more obviously but he looked like he's got some elements to his game that could transfer over to the next level possibly. Beside THJ and Leslie, Vargas and this Toure Murry look to be the other 2 guys to really watch closely on this SL squad..

Leslie is a athletic freak. This might be one of the Knicks best moves of the offseason

Oh my, did I just see a motion play for hardaway? It might be summer league but I think this is the first time I have seen that kind of play from a Knicks team in 2013. It reminded me of a Rip Hamilton play.

This Murry guy HAS to get a camp invite. The game changed once he came in and we finally had a PG on the floor. Now that I think about it, he is the only PG on the team.

THJ plays more like JR Smith's younger brother than Chris Smith does. Like what I'm seeing. Glad he settled down after some forced shots.

We have a lot of raw talent on this summer league team. If chris smith makes the team over some them I will be pissed.

I like that we still got outraged about the Nets owner and his underhand dealings with AK 47 though
