![]() Kobe In The Mirror
“He’s so athletic, he could go to the basket anytime he wanted it. But he got fouled and referees never called it. He was getting beat up and getting tired of it. I’m not bashing referees. But they get caught up watching and not reffing. I always thought that about him and Melo, too. There’s some guys you can’t even touch. Not them..." “He bought into the system and realized what he had to do to make this team successful. The older guys bended his ear. When coaches, the owner, GM, Allan Houston is on your side and everybody’s pulling for you, it makes a big difference.’’ - Earl Smith Sr Let's not pretend that success on the court means maturity in a human sense any more than failure necessarily indicates a lack of growth. Sometimes the two things are connected. Sometimes, they're not. Somewhere along the way, Smith and Woodson were able to reach some kind of an understanding, and that's to be applauded. And Smith is to be applauded as well for turning around a career that was on the fast track to nowhere to the Sixth Man of the Year. And to think, it never would have happened had he been allowed to be a starer. Best potential matchup in the history of the NBA? ![]() “I got to give all the credit to Knicks organization and Coach Woodson,’’ Earl Smith told The Post yesterday. “When you got a coach like that, anything’s possible. Earl said his son has already taken less to be a Knick, claiming the Lakers had a superior offer last summer. “He bought into the system and realized what he had to do to make this team successful,’’ Earl added. “The older guys bended his ear. When coaches, the owner, GM, Allan Houston is on your side and everybody’s pulling for you, it makes a big difference.’’ |

![]() I wasn't a fan of his at all for a long time but I am allowed to change my mind. He deserves his props. The man needed to flat out grow up. It seems like he is doing that.
He's not a perfect player but he helps us win big regardless. “Whenever I’m about to do something, I think ‘Would an idiot do that?’ and if they would, I do NOT do that thing.”- Dwight Schrute

![]() So the FA rules have changed? Looks like we can only give him up to the MLE. We can sign a multi-year deal with him... Is it the case that if he signs a 1 year deal after the season, we then get full bird rights with him?

Is it the case that if he signs a 1 year deal after the season, we then get full bird rights with him? We can sign him to another 2 year deal(last year a Player option), he can opt out of the 2nd year next year, and we'd have his full bird rights and pay him Scrooge McDuck money if he wants. |

![]() Let's just go with what we have.
1) He absolutely, positively took less money to be here. Even Papa Smith knows that much. Even dear Jeremy knows that. Hey wasn't that Landry Fields I just passed on the way to the basket? |

![]() my friend thought of giving JR a "Linsanity" type of deal...cheap on the front end and then just back end the contract
next yr = 5 mil (bird rights rules) what do you think? Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

11) the ovation when JR reports to the scorers table rivals that of Latrell Sprewell. How much does Earl Jr need to feed his family? 12) who knew a fadeaway jumper could be considered a textbook shot? Dick Barnett that's who! Fall... Back... Baby! (You could look it up) 13) next time you go to the court, please attempt shot from 40 feet, using your standard jump shot technique. No baseball throws allowed. Please Note your observations. 14)homeboy never gets injured. If he is bruised, he never shows it. Having logged the most minutes on his time card, when was the last time JR was described as a "blue collar" worker? Never once a knick always a knick

+1 Kudos to the AnswerMan for working in the Spree reference. 15) Appreciates the blood and guts of KT warrior types. |

![]() Ah well. Bye bye JR. Based on his dad's comment JR Smith is cashing in this summer.
If Im Grunwald I'd have Mayo's number on speed dial. Tell him he will be "featured" like Smith was. NY Knicks - Retirement home for players and GMs

![]() I think the 6th man of the year award conference was a beautiful thing. The fascinating quote was his acknowledgement that it took 10 years to figure things out. Fortunately for him, he started out very young in the NBA, and based on his years of service, doesn't have a tremendous amount of physical miles based on his somewhat limited playing time over the years.
It's indisputable that he has the physical tools & talent to be among the best SGs in the NBA. With his mental game finally gaining consistency, off the top of my head, I can think of 3 who are better at this point: Kobe Why the recent change? Perhaps it's a bit of his relationship with Woodson, the influence of his veteran teammates, and perhaps the close proximity of his parents. “That was two, two from the heart.” - John Starks

Lets not get things twisted since he won the award. Woodson basically lets JR Smith do whatever he wants on the offensive end. JR Smith doesnt excel at scoring in the flow of the offense. He excels at getting his own shot. NY Knicks - Retirement home for players and GMs
