Do you think Mike D'Antoni can lead the Knicks to a championship?
Yes, I have complete faith that D'Antoni can coach us to a title.
No, D'Antoni will hold the Knicks back and we need a better head coach to win a title.

If the PG position is the most important piece in his system, don't you think Antoni would have mentioned that to Walsh on Day 1?

How many viable point guards have the Knicks passed on in the draft since Antoni has been here? How many in the 2009 draft alone while they were drafting Jordan Hill?

I can only think of Brandon Jennings are there others?

Darren Collison is the only other guy I recall. I thought the Knicks should have taken Buddinger or Blair with the 29th pick at the time.

Brandon Jennings, Jrue Holliday and Ty Lawson to start.

No matter who we drafted or didn't draft, right now this is the team we have and the coach we have. This is the team MDA was hired to coach. The Coaches and the Players all seem to be having a great time right now. Lebron had one of the best comments regarding Lin. The leagues great players recognize how good D'Antoni is, having been coached by him:

“He’s playing good basketball,” James said of Lin following Tuesday’s win at Indiana. “The best thing that ever happened to him was being in that system with Coach [Mike] D’Antoni. He gives you confidence offensively. It’s a free offense. He lets you play freely. You don’t worry about mistakes. You just worry about just going and playing basketball and just showing your ability. He’s thriving in that system.

Only dumb ass Knicks fans that can't appreciate anything seem to be blind to the facts.

Only dumb ass Knick fans could look at how the Team fought in the playoffs last year and think that they weren't coached well. MDA has had some awful bad luck in Playoff games, but his teams fought hard. Maybe this time we have some good luck for a change. I think we deserve a break.

nix, that quote means different things to different people. to you it means that the players respect d'antoni as a coach. to someone who hates MDA, it means he doesn't coach at all and just lets players do what they want to.

Lin is better than those three.

As startere, those guys have yet to distinguish themselves.

ty lawson got the gig when Billups was exiled. Jennings was a mistake but a talented volume bone head shooter.

It's funny how he backs Dantoni when he hasn't accomplished anything as a head coach.

Just do what I do, ignore the stupidity.

i'd rather win with MDA than Phil. that's what it comes down to. if JVG were gonna come back it'd be a different story.

I already told you, that's the new version of the silly pace excuse.

I don't go by that gimmick statistic. I go by OPP FG% and OPP PPG.

mostly you are a step behind then. they aren't gimmick, they are advanced.

+1,000,000,000

If we win a title, then it means we made the right choice regarding the coach, no matter who the coach is. So if we win with D'Antoni, it means we made the right decision to stick with him. If we fire D'Antoni and his replacement wins a title, it means we made the right choice by changing coaches.

Anyway, a lot of folks are taking this D'Antoni argument personally, as if we don't like the man. I have no problem with him, seems like an OK guy, but I don't think he has done a very good job. I'm not saying he's necessarily done a bad job either, given all the changes in personnel. But no way has he earned an extension yet. Hopefully he will have earned it by the end of the season, but it's way too early. Let's see what he does with this team, which we pretty much all agree finally has what it takes to make a really nice playoff run.

Yeah I don't get what's so hard to understand. PPG doesn't take into account the pace you play at. There are teams that slow it down to a crawl and thus don't give up a lot of points. OPP FG% also doesn't tell the whole story cuz it doesn't tell you how many possessions don't end up in any points. The Knicks are the kind of team that gets stops, even tho there are times when teams may shoot for a good %. We get stops drawing charges, getting steals, shot clock violations, 3 sec. lane violations ...

Also there are periods of games where we aren't defending that great, but in the 4th qtr this team turns up the heat and really shuts teams down with our best defensive unit. As much as people talk about MDA, he has been putting in a very effective lineup for late game defense. his putting Shump on Calderon was a great move.

Defensive Efficiency is a more comprehensive stat. It's showing the RATE at which teams score against us, so that takes into account that we play fast and have more possessions than most teams.
In fact we have the 3rd fastest pace.

The Basketball Reference has us at #5 in the league in Def. Eff., #13 in PPG
Hollinger has the Knicks at #8 in his Def. Eff. stat.- i'm not sure how up to date his stats are.
