maybe that one has been lifted, but the bottom line is that this is still the Knicks. In one way, shape, or form, we will all get our hearts ripped out of chests.

They used to feel the same way in New Orleans about the Saints.

Things change.

Enjoy The Ride

as someone who's lived in New Orleans, I can assure you that the attitude regarding the Saints didn't change until they won the Super Bowl

anyway, I'm just happy the team doesn't suck anymore... better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all or some ****

I beg to differ.

The attitude changed in New Orleans the moment Stevie Gleason blocked the punt in the first game back in The Superdome after Katrina.

That was 2006. The Super Bowl trophy was awarded Jan 2009.

Not that it's a gusty call or anything, but I think Lin will be MDA's pet project. Nash-lite. He just fits that PG mold.

All right, I was there from 2007 to 2008. Yes, the team mattered because a fanbase that always loved their horrible team got treated to a team that was consistently really good for basically the first time in franchise history.

I CAN ASSURE YOU that people were happy to see them do well. They were like a cross between the Lovable Loser Cubs fans and the pre World Series Red Sox fans. They were happy the team was good, but thee people I talked to weren't expecting the Saints to win.

The Knicks, on the other hand, suck our fans in, we expect imminent, pre-ordained victory, and then get our hearts ripped out. The difference between the psyche of Knicks fans and pre-Super Bowl Saints fans couldn't be more different, and it definitely changed AFTER the Super Bowl, to where the fanbase isn't just happy to be along for the ride

I watched football every Sunday at Cooter Brown's for two seasons. What're your credentials?

^ I guess my point was (before I got told what to think and how to think it): when has "enjoying the ride" EVER been good enough for the Knicks, or any New York City fanbase?

Pass to the left, brah

My Who Dat Nation credentials were earned at Mama Sally's house in Gentilly and ClearVue Barber Shop on Rampart Street. Ask for "Hollywood."

"The Knicks, on the other hand, suck our fans in, we expect imminent, pre-ordained victory, and then get our hearts ripped out."

SupremeComm - Only people who follow the beat writers-on-a-deadline allow themselves to get sucked into artificial hype about the Knicks. The recent pre season articles are evidence. If you watch the games and think for yourself, you can draw you own conclusions on the Knicks and temper your expectations accordingly.

"we expect imminent, pre-ordained victory"

Speak for yourself. I plays 'em one game at a time and NEVER have felt that the Knicks winning was pre-ordained or imminent.

As a fan, I hope for the best, support my guys (win or lose) and pray for a miracle. This season has the potential to be special but a LOT has to fall in place, including good health and cohesion, for it to work on the scoreboard.

As for having my heart ripped out. The sting of losing a game does not last long. The schedule takes care of that. The best part is that every day is different and the enjoyment comes from the process and NOT the final result on the last day. Championships are cool but trophies lose their lustre quickly.

As Duane Thomas said, "If this is The Super Bowl, why are they playing it again next year?"

Enjoy The Ride

I think the difference in ability will be stark and that this will peak MDA's interest in the kid. You know that MDA is dying a slow death watching TD butcher his beautiful offense! Seeing a PG actually push the ball, get into the lane and create shots for others in this offense will be a breath of fresh air for MDA. I wonder if we'll actually see the return of the Amar'e PnR? I give it a week and a half and reports will surface that Lin is looking far superior to TD and Bibby in Practice.

This is not to overhype Lin, but let's be real. Our PG contingent is substandard!!! I like Lin more than the other washed up options we had left out there. I'm hoping that in scrimmages Lin gets to just play his game and show what he's capable of doing. That's how Iman started to shine and show he was ready to actually contribute. The same for Jorts. usually MDA takes note of how players perform at practice so I feel fairly confident that Lin will look better than TD and possibly Bibby in scrimmage situations. Cream rises to the top and that isn't very far to go with our shallow depth at PG.

Davis, Bibby, and in his ear and playing next to Melo and STAT should be a nice change for dude from D-Lee and Steph Curry.

Absolutely great pickup.

Positives:
- True PG with lots of potential
- Pass first mentality with ability to penetrate into the lane
- Currently healthy, young legs

concerns:
- Athleticism not at an ideal level
- Lack of consistent PT at NBA-level which affects pretty much everything from decision-making to shot-selection

He's been with 2 teams, trained with them, and yet didn't earn a significant role in the rotation. We don't know what goes on behind the scenes at practices, maybe he hasn't demonstrated just enough to be a real contributing factor as a second-string PG.

But here's to hoping that the reason for his lack of PT in earlier seasons was due to an abundance of talent at the PG position. Welcome to the Knicks Jeremy, hope you can be the Rubio we never had!!!

Exactly.

Lin (Harvard) and Fields (Stanford) can debate the virtues of their respective schools on the team bus.

It is a match made in hoops heaven.

Here's a nice write up on JLin:

D-League Showcase Profiles: NBA Allocation and Rights-Held Players
January 15, 2011
Matt Kamalsky

One of the few players here on assignment from a NBA franchise, Jeremy Lin flashed the same deceptive quickness and assertiveness off the dribble that we grew to expect from him at Harvard. Often bringing the ball up the floor for Reno, Lin was constantly looking for opportunities to knife into the lane. Using his quick first step and hesitation moves to get into the paint consistently, Lin was highly efficient over the two games we saw him thanks to his ability to create easy shots for himself around the rim and get to the foul line.

A combo guard in the Ivy League making the steep transition to playing the point full time in the NBA, Lin's ability to knock down shots from the perimeter, handle the ball under pressure and cut down on turnovers will dictate his chances of sticking in the NBA. With that said, his performance in the NBADL has been impressive. He has done a fine job translating the things he did well in the college game to a higher level of competition, seemingly unfazed by the bigger, more athletic players he's routinely matched up with. Lin's basketball IQ, competitiveness and overall savvy were underrated factors in his professional evaluation, and it's clear that NBA teams value them quite a bit.

Extremely tough around the basket and showing a very good understanding of his how to use screens and subtle changes of direction to turn the corner off the dribble, Lin won't land on a highlight reel any time soon, but he gets the job done in the D-League. Knocking down a couple of jumpers over the course of the week at the Showcase, it will be important for Lin to improve his ability to make shots from beyond the arc, especially with his unorthodox shooting mechanics.

The biggest knock on Lin from a NBA perspective is his lack of ideal physical tools for the defensive end. He fared well in the two games we saw on South Padre Island, but his below average wingspan and lateral quickness will be bigger concerns against the more athletic and talented offensive players he'd come across on a nightly basis in NBA play.

Shooting just 31.6% in limited action with the Warriors this season, Lin has had a much easier time scoring in the D-League, averaging nearly 20 points per-game and shooting 53% from the field. While Lin is clearly going to benefit from this experience when he returns to Golden State, he'll need to become a reliable set shooter to give himself more staying power in the NBA since he faces an uphill battle defensively. Regardless of the obstacles he faces in becoming a long-term NBA player, Lin was very very good here and left a strong impression.

I remember when he carved up John wall in the summer league. He hasnt been given an opportunity. In GS the had steph curry. In houston they have johnny flynn.
He're we have TD, and we know he's not a true PG. This is his chance, on the grandest stage

Yeah sure. They are not and Lin is deciding on a uniform numeral... with a great opportunity.

Shumpert could make Toney Douglas expendable.
