i can't believe people don't see the value in bringing jamal here. the guy can penetrate from the perimeter and get to the rim, run the pick and roll, get our bigs easy easy shots. he's a playmaker. unlike anyone we have here. comparing toney douglas to jamal crawford is just not accurate. jamal has a mid-range game. he's a perfect perfect fit here.

look at the passing and playmaking in this mix. not to mention all the buzzerbeaters. if we're in win now mode, there are aren't going to be too many players better than jamal we can add.

Knicks working on trade to get Jamal Crawford: source

11:19 AM, December 11, 2011 ι By MARC BERMAN
The Knicks and Hawks were in active discussions today on a three-team sign-and-trade deal that would bring combo Jamal Crawford back to the club, according to an NBA source.
One source said the trade has a better than fifty-fifty chance of happening.
The third team is under the cap and can inherit a player. Knicks guard Toney Douglas, a native of Atlanta, has been included in one scenario of the talks that began yesterday.
Crawford is one of the hotter free-agents available but the market hasn't been strong for him. The Knicks only have their $2.5M mini exception available to offer in a two-year package - which Crawford would not accept. In the sign-and-trade proposal, there's a chance Crawford can clear over $5M per.
The Knicks will announce the signing today of another Hawks guard Mike Bibby but view him as a backup.
The Knicks traded Crawford three years ago to create cap room for 2010 but was a favorite of Mike D'Antoni's.

When the Knicks gave up on the idea of a third superstar, they meant business. Can't remember a time when we were this agressive looking to make deals that actually will help us contend for a championship.

This is shocking for me as a Knicks fan. But in a good way.

I had made my peace with giving up TD, but I am getting a little nervous as to what else we'd be offering, especially if a third team is involved.

Can someone help me understand why Atl would want to pay the luxury tax for Walker, Balkman, and TD?

i'd have to think Crawford could be effective here if not depended on as a primary guy.

damn, if they add Crawford and Barea, this team is gonna have some real depth at guard again.

suspect defense? yes.

gotta hope Shump is what they think he is.

This has the potential of being a great move because Crawford brings that extra weapon to the mix that a contending team needs. My major concern, as with many of you, is who we trade in this scenario. If it's Tony Douglas than what does the PG position become? Does the FO view Crawford as a PG in this system? Do they feel Bibby can start? And what happens to our back-court defense, would it suffer?

Crawford's 10 games in NY under D'Antoni before the trades in November 2009:

W vs MIA 29pts 4ast 4reb 1stl 9/19FG 7/10FT
L @ PHI 14pts 1ast 1reb 1stl 5/12FG 2/2FT
L @ MIL 1pt 4ast 0reb 0stl 0/6FG 1/1FT
W vs CHA 16pts 5ast 0reb 3stl 5/11FG 2/3FT
W @ WAS 23pts 3ast 1reb 1 stl 8/18FG 3/5FT
W vs UTA 32pts 4ast 1reb 3stl 10/17FG 7/9FT
L @ SAS 28pts 4ast 1reb 0stl 10/21FG 2/2FT
W @ MEM 25pts 8ast 2reb 2stl 10/20FG 3/3FT
W @ OKC 29pts 7ast 2reb 0stl 10/22FG 4/7FT
L @ DAL 16pts 5ast 5rebs 2stl 5/19FG 4/4FT

He was a good fit for the D'Antoni offense, D'Antoni loved him. I think he's still a good fit. Hopefully he'd know his role was to shoot less. But he's a playoffs tested guard at this point. He led Atlanta to an upset of Orlando in the first of the playoffs last year, when Joe Johnson seemed out to lunch.

It'd be a three-way trade. Atlanta would get mainly cap room and a trade exception. Golden State would take the players back.

Your guess is as good as mine. On a side note, I wish our front office could be this creative bringing in someone like Ridnour or Sessions. I don't see why we're trading one streaking shooting combo guard who plays defense for an older, more expensive streak shooting combo guard who doesn't play defense. I hope this trade fails.

Ahh, just saw your post above crzymdups. It makes sense for Atlanta then.

Berman is the main guy on this so it might fail. It was only a couple of days ago that he had the Knicks getting Hill.

Toney can't dribble penetrate to save his life. Jamal is quite good at it. Have you guys watched Jamal lately? He's a different player. Did you see him lead Atlanta to an upset of Orlando in the playoffs? He was masterful.

we have iman's defense.

this idea that toney is a great defender kinda needs to go away. he plays hard. he doesn't play smart.

I saw it, and Jamal has improved his shot selection the past few years. I'm not saying he sucks. But he is redundant. Fact is, TD is younger, a better three-point shooter, is a little steadier with the basketball and he plays better defense. Plus he's cheaper. I'd rather that the team focused its energies on a starting point guard if they pull off another trade. Another veteran PF who can make layups would be nice too.

man I would love Crawford here... his defense would improve with this frontcourt. I always liked him as person, always wanted him to do well. I thought he was asked to do too much here. I think he would be a GREAT fit.

Im open in my love for TD.. but what an upgrade Crawford is. Dude would be a stat stuff on this team. You could leave Fields as starting SG but open that job up to Shump if his defense is as good as advertised
