nonsense. If I'm an elite PG, where would I like to sign in UFA? A team with two of the best offensive forwards in the league? Or the current team, with a bunch of role players? Or just stay where you are?

The team is a .500 team. Chauncey Billups isn't as good as Felton now, but he can hit a deep shot. Melo and Amar'e give a shot at a first round upset. Would you want to play the Knicks?

I am happy

If I'm an opposing team, I'm looking at our frontcourt and drooling. Then I'm looking at Amar'e and thinking "Wow, he gets into foul woes easily anyway, now it's going to be easier. We are going to get demolished defensively.

and apparently our future second rounders.

I just saw we included the 2nd rounders from GS?!
Man, I was finally feeling good that NY wasn't the laughingstock of the trade community anymore. A pretty girl smiled at us and we went out and bought her a diamond ring.

I'm not sure I like this trade at all. Happy we kept Fields and Amar'e, but those are like the only critical pieces we kept. Why didn't we just toss Amar'e in too? Ha.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Cup half full look at the trade:

Felton and Billups is a wash, so essentially we traded Gallo, Chandler and Mozgov for Melo and to be frank, if the playing feild were opened up and allowed all NBA teams to bid for Melo's services, our offer would have been trumped easily.

Y! Sports: NY: Melo, CB, Balkman, Williams, Carter; DEN: Gallo, Mosgov, Felton, Chandler, '14 NY 1st & 2 2nds; Minn: Randolph and Curry.

Minnie gave up cap space - by eating curry's contract. Only way to balance the money.

Does this also mean the end of ?

I don't see us playing SSOL with Billups and this is not going to be a very gast team any more.

You know at the end of the day, we got Melo. We might have paid more than we wanted to, but what was the alternate?
I read alot of lets take our chance with free agency. Well that didn't work out last summer, and please don't sell me on cultivating youth. Who are we kidding? The Heat team is young and any cultivating would be only to lose to them. This puts us in the discussion, players will come to NY

Yeah, but they got Anthony Randolph for basically free? Looks like they didn't give up a first rounder or Brewer according to that Spears report.

Billups ran MDA's offense really well in the world games.

I guess my other question is, how much is Melo's extension? If he's getting anything more than $14 million to start, we lost badly on this trade.

And AR and Curry - why do people keep missing that? And a firts rounder......WTF??????????

The cap space facilitated the deal. It saved Denver like $20 M by not having to have Curry hit their cap.

$20M is a big big big deal.

Thats what I'm hoping. This becomes a major success if we get Deron or Paul. If not we made a huge mistake in giving up Felton who's def. a tier below but a very good PG.

We can fill in the rest of the gaps and already have good roleplayers like Fields, Douglas, Shawne, Turiaf.

Lets this thing play out. Two-thirds of the trio are here now, Amare and Melo This makes it more attractive for Paul (who was the one with the suggesting) to come here in the summer of '12. Lets hope he keeps his word.

I think it does but not because they will have to change their style. Walsh has protected D'Antoni and shielded the franchise from Dolan's dysfunction. This trade saw D'Antoni's pet player traded and his brothers pet player traded. The gloves are off and I think the Walsh era is over. I don't think D'Antoni can make it in NY without the protection of Walsh.

You guys can't be serious..this is the same people who were saying letting go of David Lee was a travesty..remember him? Melo is definitely a superstar. In my opinion we gave up 3 mediocre players and a Russian Project for a SUPERSTAR AND A CHAMPIONSHIP PG WHO SHOOTS 44% FROM 3 POINT LAND. You guys will forget Wilson, Gallo & Felton in no time..Enjoy fellow Knicks Fan..We are definitely BACK!!

Yeah, basically.

I think we might look back on this as our Kevin Garnet trade.

Celtics gave up Al Jefferson, Gomes, Telfair, multiple draft picks etc and Celts fans were actually upset at the price and thought they didn't have any depth left. Think they like the KG trade now?

This trade makes us CONTENDERS for 4-5 years. CONTENDERS.

We caved....not too happy about that but saw it coming when we put that huge offer out there on Friday night. Always better to save your best offer for the end if possible (aka Thursday before deadline).

Something tells me Donnie didn't handle the negotiations here but I really hope that he is the man in charge for the go forward...although all logical signs tell me this won't be the case

With that said, looking at the bright side, we just added another star player and are closer to becoming a contending team. Amare/Melo + the best offensive coach in basketball has me excited and I think with the right leadership in the front office, we can definitely build a team that has a shot at contention.

"This is a very cautious situation that we're in. You have to be conservative in terms of using your assets and using them wisely. We're building for the future." - Zeke (I guess not protecting a first round pick is being conservative)
