The way i feel about this Amare signing is going to be heavily impacted by what happens next, but at the same time, from a public relations standpoint, it is good for the Knicks not to get shut out of the big FA this summer. The world was ready to point their fingers and laugh at us if we wound up with a Mike Miller as our biggest $ signing after we waited these years for this. Lets hope this is just the start, but even if it isn't, the Knicks potentially just dodged national embarrassment

ESPN is already spinning the Amar'e signing like it's a panic move. This guy was a key player on the Western Conference Finalist Suns last season - scored 42pts in a win over the lakers in game 4...

not to mention the fact that when they had him going to Cleveland at the trade deadline he was the best possible pairing for Lebron and a genius move by Cleveland.

Unreal, ESPN. Unreal.

Getting Amare changes the FA landscape for us.

suddenly the Knicks roster of Douglas, Gallo, Chandler, Walker and Amare would be pretty attractive. You have your 5 time all star frontcourt guy who scores at 55% and some bigtime shooters around him.

yeah, getting amar'e would feel like a coup. personality wise i don't love him and i think bosh is more durable. but i think amar'e is the more consistently dominant player.

I'm not an Amar'e guy at all. He can get you 30 points one game and then struggle to get 2 rebounds the next in a big game. But it is progress I guess. He was on my list. Those knees scare me to death and the Suns are well aware of the situation. Walsh and the Knicks medical staff should leave no ligament unturn. Overall so far our post defense will remain the same and rebounding decrease.

He opens up the middle of the floor and the wings for Gallo, though.

And - I think it's a very good idea to re-sign David Lee if Lebron doesn't come here.

Gallo/Amare/Dlee is an explosive front court.

Dam Amare being signed to a 100+ million dollar deal. Please God let those knees hold up. We cant make Amare play Center or he wont last till that 5th year.

Not thrilled with Gallo being forced into being a SF when he can be a problem for the league at PF.

god please let this happen... the first one is the hardest. We lock down Amare and we are in the FA drivers seat.

If we can't get Lebron - re-signing David Lee has to be the next priority.

But, I'm also a fan of moving ECurry's contract for Andreis Biedrins in GSW.

...and getting Amar'e... I have to think that puts in good position in the Lebron race. Think about it - Joe Johnson (ATL), Rudy Gay (MEM), Wade (MIA), Bosh(MIA), Amare(NYK) - if those guys are all off the table - who do the Nets and Bulls give their cap room to? no max guys left? they max out david lee? boozer? amare is leaps and bounds ahead of them.

If true, the nice thing about it is I don't think Amare signs without having some notion that another big time player is coming too.

How so? Amare is nice but not feeling him unless we get a center to take the banging. We were one of the few teams with no Center and PG.

You mean max money isnt incentive enough? Chicago and Nets(Rod Thorn) are more strict when it comes to giving out contracts to players with suspect medical history's.

Amare has played center most of his career and Douglas is a good PG if we get a ball handler like Lebron, Wade or even Mike Miller.

Plus you have the Curry chip. I would LOVE Biendris as crzy mentioned. OK4 would look damn good also if you could trade Curry for either. Then you have Amare/OK4 and max space for a wing

remember the rumored phone conversation amare had with lebron on july 1 before he met the knicks the first time.

this could be huge for us.

odd that the bulls are considered front runners for lebron and never seemed to check in to the amare race and have little chance at bosh, seemingly...

Im not saying Amare isn't a nice piece but I see it as more of other teams werent high on giving him a max guaranteed deal with those suspect knees.

Nets have Favors and could settle for Lee just to continue to spite the Knicks
Bulls are rumored to prefer Bosh or Boozer(Non Max player)
Heat are rumored to prefer Bosh or Boozer(Non Max player)

So who else was really going to offer Amare the max? Amare is trying to get paid and I dont blame him or Joe Johnson for taking the money.

Here's one thing to also consider: Bosh wants a sign and trade. Who is gonna do that for him besides Houston (ie not Miami or Bulls).

Got to give Donnie credit for going hard after Amare once he realized D-Wade + Bosh in Miami is almost done.

If we lock up Amare, it basically allows us to go to LeBron and say "You still want to stay in Cleveland and take Bosh + Wade on your own?" You would have to think that LeBron would realize the best option on the table at that point would be to come to NY and team up with Amare and Gallo.

fair enough. but if amar'e signed this contract with the bulls, you know you'd be one of the first to say it was another big chip off the table for the knicks and a clear sign lebron was going to the bulls.

amar'e has been in contact with lebron about the free agency process. there's a very real chance we are back in the lebron race in a major way.
