I'm ok with that over paying Amare or Boozer. Nice plan B if Lebron can't recruit Bosh. Although I think if we sign LBJ Bosh will come over in a heartbeat. And Curry is coming off the books. Hopefully Hou gets nothing for 2012 pick. some scrub who is out of the league after his rook contract.
and jordan hill sucks.

whew

i'm not.

really? You'd rather pay Amare close to the max or Boozer $13M then giving it the homegrown kid?

All 3 of them have reputations for being tissue soft on defense. Lee (I think) should be cheaper than both of them no?

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

Great plan, just terribly executed.

Really is a bit too much to try and nitpick when a guy comes into a situation where EVERYONE knows he's trying to pawn off crap to get cap space and he still gets it done. In the end we really haven't lost out on much for what we can get in return.

You think this situation was easy or something? We had practically nothing to trade and no strength of bargaining position. Still at the end of the day, he got us to where we needed to be. 2 MAX FA cap space is nothing to sneeze at.

that's so very easy for you to say from where you're sitting.
Yes it is. But I also have business/negotiating experience to know what I am talking about.

As I said a number of times....it was a great plan and I hope we get LeBron + another max FA. However the execution was horrible from a negotiating standpoint. As you said, everyone knew what Donnie needed to do. But that was because Donnie told everyone what he needed to do and so that made it much harder and expensive to accomplish. He needed to keep it quiet until he accomplished it.

He also waited for the trade deadline where he was boxed into a corner. He knew the plan 1 1/2 years ago. He should have unloaded Jeffries last year....or over the summer....or at the beginning of this year. It would have been much less costly than what he just did. Yes, he accomplished getting rid of Jeffries contract, but at a terribly high price. That is my point. A GM should know how to negotiate. Donnie doesn't. Morey does!
But go and rejoice even though we could have been in a much, much stronger position than we are in right now.

Walsh's best trade, and it was excellent, (no sarcasm), was trading Darko for Cardinal. A very smart move, but very minor.

What, it does nothing for us this year or the year thereafter. Both players will be lucky to see the court and wouldn't have factored into the NYK plans for next year either way. How

When you're trading superior players for garbage with expiring contracts (specifically ending by 2010), do you think people are that stupid that they don't know what the plan is?

Great post.

Sadly Walsh will be judged on results not good intentions. This deal will either great or terrible. There is really no gray area here.

I think it saves the Knicks a prorated 1.5 million this year. Until we know what the pick is coming for Nate it is the only trade that definitely helps the team in anyway. Everything else was a huge gamble. Walsh gave up a ton he needs to get something done this summer.

Walsh's best trade up to this point has been $3 mil in cash for Toney Douglas, & even that's been grayed by MDA's unwillingness to play the kid up to this point... T-Mac trade is still up for debate untill we get Lebron... it will definitely seal his legacy as a GM forever, regardless of the outcome.

You just expressed it. I wanted to say something positive about Walsh and that is what I could think of. The rest of my post berated Donnie (he deserve's it).

We saved some salary and luxury tax as Cardinal's salary is less than Darko. Also, Walsh doesn't have to negotiate with Darko for a buyout. And Darko's agent is happy that we let Darko go, so he can get another chance of playing.
