Overall the dunk contest has been a sad event for at least 10 years. The best dunkers simply don't come out for the contest. Who cares about promoting rookies? Put bigger money on the line and the best dunkers will come out!

Actually, I thought Dwight Howard pumped life into the dunk contect the last couple of years, but other then that I agree....

I think Dwight Howard is totally overrated in the dunk contest. He is reliant on props and gimmicks, and he steals other guys dunks too, like Andre Iguodala's off the back of the backboard dunk. He is good at hyping the crowd.

Dwight Howard would be dunked out of the gym by Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, or Kenny Walker!

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Nate didn't seem into it. He is a pretty dynamic guy and that was not present tonight. I wonder if his injury, his mom, the trade deadline, or his situation with his team impacted him tonight. He has alot going on and he presents as a much more cerebral guy when he talks then when you just watch him on the court.

Don't forget about this guy just because Donnie did. Who is the dumb bunny that kept comparing this kid to Scalabrine?

Wesley Johnson, John Wall etc etc

Whatever newcomer doesn't matter. Invite guys who will actually do dunks and show they care. The reason I think Shannon and Wallace took it easy because they are in the playoff hunt/All-Star Game(Wallace) and didn't want to risk anything. Derozan is too, but is green/rookie so he probably wanted to get his name into more households

it used to feature 8 guys in preliminaries & they had 2 rounds of eliminations before they got to the 2 man finals... that was so much more interesting.

enough w/the lame shooting stars & skills competitions & just expand the dunk contest to more guys... that's what the fans wanna see... stop being so damn politically correct by including the WNBA players, who wants to watch that garbage?

that first dunk was amazing (most guys copy and tweak anyway) no props. The ping-pong dunk was great too @ 5:00 mins. Speaking of props, most of the new generation of dunkers, including Nate, are going to props because most of the dunks have been done already.

Probably my favorite Dwight dunk. He can touch the top of the backboard, in reality, not like them legendary myths we here about of players snatching quarters off the th top of the backboard.

Gerald Greene's blow out the candle dunk was the most original dunk of that contest IMO

I agree. I was explaining the rules to my son and the next thing you know Pierce is being declared the winner.. They should have definitely have had a shoot off between Curry and Pierce.

Not true. Pierce won the second and final round outright.

The confusion was TNT crew too busy talking smack all night to even pay attention to the rules.

Top 3 contestants from the first round advance. You had 18, 17, 17. TNT crew then said OH a tie, we have a shootout now!

No, you don't. They were the clear cut FIRST ROUND players who would advance.

It was 18-17-17 for Pierce, Curry, Billups. The next contestant had 15. So you had your top 3 from round one and they advanced. It didn't matter two of them had 17. If a fourth guy had 17 then yes, you'd have a shootout to determine the top 3 to advance.

And then Pierce dropped a 20 on everyone and won outright in the 2nd round.

Again, the confusion was the TNT crew too busy yacking away to pay attention and then mis-spoke.
