NYKBocker wrote:Why is wingspan or length important again for a PG?

If Rose and Douglas had a shooting contest I bet Douglas beats him. If they play one on one I don't think it goes that way. That's why length is important.

How about this...

Name the team that won the championship in the last 15 years who didn't have a crazy length player at some position on their team
C: 7'+
PF: 6'10+
SF: 6'8+
G: 6'6+
PG: 6'3+

If its Horry, Lewis, or Odom or whoever, these teams that are getting deep in the playoffs have size advantages. Period.

How do you explain these PGs? They are all of average PG height and wingspan.
John Stockton
Mark Price
Steve Nash
Mark Jackson
Rod Strickland
Kenny Anderson
Charlie Ward
Chris Childs
Stephon Marbury

I can go on and on here about PGs with varying success that has started in the NBA.

They all have one thing in common. They have the ability to run a team. Some are better than others.

A PG is expected to run the team's offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right players at the right time. Above all, the point guard must totally understand and accept his or her coach's game plan.

The PG in 7 seconds or less demands the PG to push the ball at every opportunity, be it from makes, rebounds or steals. TD has shown the ability to play an up tempo game. He has the ability to wreck havoc in the passing lanes which translates to fast breaks. He has the ability to shoot from the outside and he looks like he has the balls the play PG.

Measurables are great for all other positions. The PG trait that is the most important cannot be measured by a tape.

TD has all the qualities that can make him a successful starting NBA PG. He is a better option than Dudu or Nate.

TD has to start.

Hmmmm....wingspan....so I guess TD could reach over and grab a beer from the fridge and never have to get up off the couch. Yeah, I can see where that would be very useful. I knew there was something about the kid I liked. Hey TD, can you grab me a beer

HA

i've been to 3 games in the past week, and in each one the team has immediately responded when TD has come into the game, and the whole garden has gotten a lift. the kid just gets at it. he’s immediately dogging the ball and hitting the floor to go after it. plus he gets the north-south aspect of the game. he's getting the ball moving toward the hoop.

i like the fact that he has a physical impact on the game. he reminds me of baron in this aspect. there's gonna be some bodying and banging and cats getting annoyed (read: delonte) when he's on the floor.

plus remember this - our first questions about him were can he lead an offense - and he comes right into summer league on a god-awful squad and registers 21 assists and 2 turnovers in the first 2 games. then we ask can he score - look at what he did the last 2 games. he really took over the scoring last night, and we needed it. he positively impacted every aspect of the game.

not till he gets a coach that makes that adjustment.

Sure did Cooch. He played great. Is he going to hit that percentage of jumpers every night? Same as Gallo, its fool's gold. These guys have to get to the rack to sustain offense. I've been saying it since the Marbs/Francis days.

To ask these players to stroke the ball at 50% on jumpers is crazy. Its not going to happen every night with this group of players. Jesus Shuttlesworth ain't walking through that door Cooch.

21 and 1 from our point guard is not a winning formula.

Utah's point had 5 and 15.

I've watched this kid all through SL, Preseason and the Regular Season. He's played great for what he is. I just don't have the same vision of what he is that you do.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

There are some "positions" where length does come into play though.

This a family site. Pretty shocking to read this kind of comment.

"Length", "positions", AND "family"?
Kinky.

Funny how there always seems to be somebody that will step into the void of the position of antagonizer whenever the previous one gets banned. Strange phenomenon.
