Anyone think that if Grant does indeed come here on a multi-year deal or something to that affect, that he believes/knows that the Knicks are going to be a hotbed for FA next season?

Yes, and that he will play a big role in getting them here. And if he's locked up for a few years, he'd have more power to get them here. He's healthy and quite good still. It looks like he's fully recovered from his ankle problem. I'd prefer to lock him up on a small contract for three years.

Who's Gunna Take The Weight?

When you look at the Knicks roster for veteran leadership (more than 5 years in the league), either on the court or off, who are the candidates?

Jeffries 7 - probably ranks at the top by default.

Harrington 11 - the next time he hangs on the rim I will strangle him myself. Chest thumping is not leadership

Larry Hughes 11 - a migrant worker on his way to his next stop. Never led.

Eddy Curry 8 - never wanted to play basketball in the first place

In the context of resetting the culture of winning basketball, the signing of Grant Hill, becomes more imperative than ever.

The Knicks desperately need a mentor

3 years and $10mm is the best scenario IMO. We get a good veteran player for a budget. One of the things that kills us and will continue to kill us is late game execution. Hill gives you a head out there in crunch time and thats huge for a young team.

So long as we are dedicated to building the young talent on this team adding good veterans is a very smart move. Cheap ones are ever better.

3yrs $10M is a smart offer by Walsh and a great move. I think Hill will take it and I think it helps the team a lot. Desperately need a leader. I'd even like to see how Nate played with a leader out there.

Even if he did become trade bait, the Mayor would only be traded for another prospect anyway. A high level prospect at that. Chandler is a nice young player with good potential but he isn't untouchable depending on who we get back.

if he gets traded he will be traded for a vet so MDA can try and get the 8 seed. this is the way of the New York Knicks. Nothing ever changes.

Which important young players has Walsh traded for vets so far?

I agree with Cosmic that I hope he takes one year. If he takes three years, I hope they give him the mid level max the first year and the balance of the $10 million over the next two years.

yr 1 5.8
yr 2 2.0
yr 3 2.2

Would be ideal but i don't think its allowed to go from 5.8 to 2.0.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

yr 3 5.0

that would be even better!

exactly and Walsh mulled Kleiza for Lee, or maybe Denver vetoed the deal can't remember. As much as I'd prefer Hill and as much as I like The Mayor, swingmen is the easiest position to reload in the NBA, which is why Isiah got a team full. The most common of NBA resources

I'll change my thoughts and am for the 3 yr contract for $10 mil. Having Grant on the team already signed does open the door for some top FA. His salsry won't affect the cap too much.

AND he is a great complimentary player for a Superstar as Grant Hill can help win games - this takes the load off the one or 2 Superstars we may sign. Grant Hill is a player who can score at crunch time so who will the opposing team try to double-team?
