It's a different time now. Back then, Lee thought that the Knicks cared about keeping him. Now he sees that there is no point in trying to stay here. Plus, Memphis THIS YEAR is much better than MEMPHIS LAST YEAR because mayo and gay (lol) are taking the league by storm.

where do you get the impression that the Knicks dont care about keeping Lee?

^^Mayo was a rook'. They need to spool it up.

Exactly, Martin Knicks care about Lee a lot. They are showing him the money. Can't make it a bidding war have to keep to the plan. Knicks are placing restriction which is quite frankly refreshing. No more Shandon Anderson, Howard Eisley, Jerome James, Allan Houston contracts for players who are not deserving of that kind of money.

my whole point is not about lee specifically but how the knicks finally get a young player they drafted and is actually a good piece, but is being shown the door after years of knicks fans clamoring for a player just like him.

Is being shown a 32min contract first of all.

Secondly, since when do you hear new yorkers clamoring for a guy who can't create his own offense aside from putbacks, can't consistently knock down a jumper, can't defend or block a shot, has no clutch-time prowess, gets his shot stuffed constantly, and doesn't command a double-team.

which is why he won't get max money. but comparable players get $8-10 mil/year. there are different level of role players and he's in the upper tier of role players.

If Memphis is interested in signing Lee for 40-50mil then they should have no problem trading for him after we match that offer.

They can give us Darnell Aurthur we can trade them Lee. We then get a 9mil trade exception. If they don't want to give us Aurthur then they can give us a future protected first rd pick. We would still get a 10mil trade exception to use at our disposal and gain assets from that.

That's a pretty good offer. We just can't let Lee walk. Since they are under the cap we should at least get some form of protected pick and the trade exception. Letting him walk for nothing MIGHT work next year as we'd have salary cap space, but he is an asset and we should get something...

Well that's not surprising at all if that's true. If they aren't willing to pay Pau Gasol a dime, why in the world would they pay David Lee a lot of money? That franchise is all about one thing, and that's saving as much money as they can, because they can't get any fans to fill the seats. They probably need to move more than New Orleans. Or better yet, they need to be victims of contraction.
