I can't imagine what good reason Lee would have for staying in NY.

The team sucks, your mangement routinely drafts players as the same position as him, and they've pretty much indicated that they will under pay compared to what he would receive on the open market.

Eddy Curry is making 10 million dollars to eat big macs so why in the hell should Lee get any less then that.

Let Lee walk. The cap space is way to valuable. There is no guarantee that Curry and Jefferies can be moved. Can't take that chance and have everything the Knicks did this past season with dumping Crawford and Zach go down the drain. Let him go, for the good of the franchise I don't see a sign and trade coming, Lee seems eager to sign with a team ASAP. Memphis is gearing up an offer of 9-10 mill. so Lee is very eager to leave.

“…Several league executives say that the Memphis Grizzlies are preparing a $40-50 million offer for New York Knicks restricted free agent David Lee(notes) . “There’s a great deal of interest in him, and a lot of teams are trying to be very creative,” his agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Wednesday morning…”

If Lee signs with memphis after telling them that he wouldnt sign an extension with them at last years draft that could possibly have netted us Mayo, I will be pissed off

It's a different time now. Back then, Lee thought that the Knicks cared about keeping him. Now he sees that there is no point in trying to stay here. Plus, Memphis THIS YEAR is much better than MEMPHIS LAST YEAR because mayo and gay (lol) are taking the league by storm.

Their record was 24-58. That's not much of a storm.

If Memphis is interested in signing Lee for 40-50mil then they should have no problem trading for him after we match that offer.

They can give us Darnell Aurthur we can trade them Lee. We then get a 9mil trade exception. If they don't want to give us Aurthur then they can give us a future protected first rd pick. We would still get a 10mil trade exception to use at our disposal and gain assets from that.

Exactly, Martin Knicks care about Lee a lot. They are showing him the money. Can't make it a bidding war have to keep to the plan. Knicks are placing restriction which is quite frankly refreshing. No more Shandon Anderson, Howard Eisley, Jerome James, Allan Houston contracts for players who are not deserving of that kind of money.

Having 10mil trade excepton through out the season or by this time next yr would be huge.

And if they also got a protected 1st rounder, I would be pretty happy

my whole point is not about lee specifically but how the knicks finally get a young player they drafted and is actually a good piece, but is being shown the door after years of knicks fans clamoring for a player just like him.

Is being shown a 32min contract first of all.

Secondly, since when do you hear new yorkers clamoring for a guy who can't create his own offense aside from putbacks, can't consistently knock down a jumper, can't defend or block a shot, has no clutch-time prowess, gets his shot stuffed constantly, and doesn't command a double-team.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

He was your leading scorer, rebounded and shot at a great percentage. So the Knicks havent liked any of the players they have had in 25 years except Ewing and he didnt win anything. All the things Knicks fans like Ewing is the closest to that.

which is why he won't get max money. but comparable players get $8-10 mil/year. there are different level of role players and he's in the upper tier of role players.

Role players with a heavy price tag are just no good to us when there are no superstar players for the role player to feed off.

That's a pretty good offer. We just can't let Lee walk. Since they are under the cap we should at least get some form of protected pick and the trade exception. Letting him walk for nothing MIGHT work next year as we'd have salary cap space, but he is an asset and we should get something...

For what it's worth...
Grizzlies' owner Michael Heisley has apparently not given GM Chris Wallace approval to make a lucrative offer to David Lee.

Lee is a restricted free-agent but the Knicks may not match a contract at or near $10 million per

Well that's not surprising at all if that's true. If they aren't willing to pay Pau Gasol a dime, why in the world would they pay David Lee a lot of money? That franchise is all about one thing, and that's saving as much money as they can, because they can't get any fans to fill the seats. They probably need to move more than New Orleans. Or better yet, they need to be victims of contraction.

Plus, I read somewhere that Odom and Ariza are both looking for 6-8 mil contracts. If those are the kind of figures championship role players are getting, I doubt David will get anywhere near 10 per.

If he does, he swindled somebody.
