it will be interesting to see if the knicks will be functioning with controlled chaos (ala the suns) or just borderline wreckless...

How long is everyone giving Galli to prove he belongs?

I'm patient - he has until the end of summer camp.

I think you have to give him a couple years...

He is only 19 and is still developing. The thing about this draft is so many of the players were very young - most of them will not be immediate impact and I think Gallinari fits that description. I bet by the end of the season he is a starter though since Q and Balkman both stink.

Four More Years

OasisBU - Gallinari will arrive at the ripe old age of 24 in 2013

By then, the NY press will have had plenty of time to beat him up as a failure for not living up to his undeserved, bogus title as The Italian Stallion

I know things look bleak - believe me. There really is no silver lining in all of this because the Knicks can't do a quick reload like the C's and we have no young talent. This franchise has been and continues to be in deep trouble.

For controlled chaos, we still need someone on the court to control the chaos.

I'm all for patience. But he better show something in summer league. He'll be going against a lot of guys that aren't going to make an NBA roster and other 19 year old players. If Europe is better than CBB, then he should be better than most of the other 19 & 20 year old players he will be going against, and that should be evident.

I don't expect him to start for me season 1, but he should get minutes.

For years we've been screaming about how we have low IQ ball players who dont move the ball and cant shoot. Now got a player who seems to have a good feel fo the game, can shot and seemingly make players around him better and people are up in arms.

Honestly, if this kid played in the states, and had an american name with the same game, people wouldn't have a problem with him.

imho, this is not a high "upside" pick. they didn't swing for the fences here. so i can see why knicks fans may be unhappy. randolph is a swing for the fences. this is a guy that will score points in the system and won't be a bust. thinking about it now, it's almost a "safe" pick.

swinging for the fences...trading a 20ppg and fan favorite in rj for yi...

and if that doesn't work out, you just saved yourself 1 year at $10+ mil...

How is that swinging for the fences if you just described it as having a safe aspect to it if it fails?

b/c they clearly traded an establish 20ppg score for a question mark...the cap space is just a footnote to it right now.

I see that, but it is the cap space is what makes it not nearly as risky as "swinging for the fences." Trading for Zach Randolph is swinging for the fences. Because when you miss, you struck out and it's over. Trading for Yi is more like trying for a big pass play on 2nd and 1 while knowing that you still have 3rd down to get the past the first down marker.

Bottom line is I like what we got. I wanted Jerryd Bayless so bad but days before the draft when it looked like Gallinari was going to be a possibility, like everyone else I read all the reports, looked at the stats and watched all the clips I could find around here and after all of it I wasn't as disappointed as I thought I was going to be last night, even after we left Bayless on the table!!! I really like Danilo's game - I know they play different positions but compare him to Jamal Crawford as an offensive player for a sec. - Gallinari's going to be a productive and efficient offensive player, you can see it, while we all know Crawford's not. How many times do we say that Jamal Crawford doesn't take the ball to the rim nearly enough to take advantage of his superior FT shooting - instead just chucking up bad, low % shots from the perimeter time after time. While the perimeter game is there for Gallinari, his first option looks to be to take it hard to the rim for a score or a foul - and together with his 85 FT%, that's a lethal combo. This kid looks like the exact opposite of a Jamal Crawford. Looks like he's very aggressive and likes to take it to the rim, welcomes contact, is very slick with the ball and has a wide variety of head fakes and hesitations he uses to his advantage (moreso than ever now because nobody knows him or how to play him). That's just it - just like the real good ones in the NBA there doesn't appear to be one way to stop him - take away the drive and he'll kill you on the perimeter, play him too close and he'll go right around you for a score, he drives right and left equally well, finishes with both hands & it even looks like he's got a quality post game. Plus he plays with the fire and passion you wanna see. I really believe we're looking at a 20 ppg guy here and a lot sooner than people realize. I think we got a real good one here folks.

I was dying to see them do something with David Lee last night for additional help but I guess we've got all summer for that...

Dude's got range! I'm willing to give him a shot - from now to 2010, he can prepare himself to be the compliment to LeBron... I'd keep Lee though.
