Marv - if Walsh has negotiated a level of authority and autonony for President of basketball Operations never seen before at 2 Penn Plaza, and given their relationship, is the idea of Larry Brown The Sequel really so far out of the new picture?

the re-hiring of larry brown would be wrong in every way possible.

Never underestimate the fierce loyalty between those Carolina guys. Sure, the financial terms would rank among the most complicated in NBA history, but the Frank Layden "Special Consultant" position is a perfect place to stash Brown... or Isiah for that matter.

I just hope Mark Jackson has a solid interview

Dolan was hoodwinked by Isiah who underestimated the power of Larry. I guess he thought Larry would take his mega bucks and just coach the team.

No, Larry wanted control because Larry came to realized what a bad job Isiah did and was doing.

I'd love to see a larry sequel which if anything provides great drama.

Imagine the drama on IsiahBury with that kind of juice bearing down on them!

Nalod - the sad thing is that Larry Brown could have earned control over time if he woulda just been cool. To come in the first year and diss the players while working the phones behind the back of the President and Owner was the arrogant move of an impatient hustler.

and I use the word hustler with all due respect

I disagree, Earl. Isiah's the hustler. Larry Brown is just a weasel.

...and Wilson Chandler is still The Mayor

K22 - cool.

Another fundamental question is whether Donnie Walsh thinks Stephon Marbury is a basketball player.

secondarily, does Walsh have the juice to bring back Marv Albert?

I think a better question is whether Stephon Marbury thinks Stephon Marbury is a basketball player. Some of the wires don't seem to be connected in that dome of his.

And I don't think Marv wants anything to do with Little Jimmy.

K22 - we already know what Stephon thinks of his game.

The only reason Marv Albert comes to mind is that brand building is essential in the new set of hires by the team President. If the media policy is being revised, one would think the announcer with the strongest link to the bright moments of the franchise would get a strong re-consideration as a prime messenger.

Nice thread Earl. Mark Jackson is my favorite player ever because he was the quintessential thinking man's player, yet he still had personality. They always underestimated him since high-school and he always stepped up. Hell, people still underestimate him and he is #2 all time in assists, has been on winning teams throughout his career, gone deep into the playoffs, all the way to the finals, and has a ton of other accomplishments as well.

He was smart, clutch, and dominated passing the way great scorers dominate scoring. He made his teammates better. He was a leader. He has a clean personal profile. He is one of our native sons.

We need someone like Mark Jackson driving this team. Someone who understands how to get offense from the players, not just force players into some standard scheme. Or get Don Nelson, I'd be happy with that!

oohah

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

oohah - I even think Mark Jackson would rip a page or two from the Looie Carnessecca (who Donnie acknowledged as part of his heartfelt New York heritage) book and be good for an emotional outburst or two... just for a perfectly-orchestrated techincal foul or two.

Hot Dog at the Garden - $4.75

Latrell Sprewell Rally Towel on Phat Farm Night - Free

Parking off Eighth Avenue and 33rd Street- $30.00

Looie pacing the sidelines, absolutely abusing his comb-over and working the refs while ripping off his sweater - Priceless

i think we could use an older/respected veteran coach as a stop gap and bring in a guy like jax as his assistant to groom.

too bad we played the lenny wilkens hand already...

Living For The City

"New York... jus'like I pictured it!"

(Donnie also said he had a bunch of resumes for GM)

dj - Mark Jackson is a perfect fit for the brief honeymoon with da Knicks yoots over the next 2 years. Rather than hire a veteran head man, Donnie Walsh needs to interview Jackson's Del Harris. A veteran assistant with a small ego.

Just think Avery Johnson without the training wheels.

And the thick Cajun accent. "Baaaaasket-bOWl".

Earl, would you be against bringing a hard-ass here like Carlisle or Skiles?

K22 - Paulie Walnuts Cousin, Donnie Walsh, is hard-ass enough for me. Once the chaff is cleared out, I'm more interested in a coach who can go hard-rock when he needs to, but is primarily a teacher of fundamentals of teamwork, defense and trust.

The next coach needs to have a flexible and intuitive hand, to go along with his inner drill sargent. Carlisle and Skiles are one-trick ponies, sans any rings, whose acts wears thin after a few too many repetitions.

Good Fellas

(The Isiah Thomas Exit Interview With Donnie Walsh)

Herb Wiliams (V.O.) Knicks President is the highest honor they can give you. It means you belong to The Dolan family and board of directors crew. It means that nobody can (mess) around with you. It also means you can (mess) around with anybody, as long as they aren't also a member. It's like a license to steal.

INTERIOR. BASEMENT ROOM OFF THE GARAGE

As Isiah proudly walks into the room, followed by two Madison Square Garden Ushers.

Herb (V.O.) As far as Mark Aguirre was concerned, with Isiah being made, it was like
we were all being made. We would now have one of our own guys as a member.

Isiah proudly walks into the room. We see a hood suddenly appear behind him, put a gun to his head and fire. We see Isiah inertly drop to the ground in a heap.

Herb (V.O.) Except, they didn't make Isiah that day.

CUT TO: Mark Aguirre - IN PHONE BOOTH

Suddenly, Aguirre slams down the phone with so much strength that the booth shudders.

Herb (V.O.) They killed him. It was revenge for Lenny Wilkens.

When Herb turns around, WE SEE that he is crying just like he did when DePaul lost in the first round of the NCAAs. WE SEE Herb hurrying toward Aguirre to console him.

Herb (V.O.) And there was nothing we could do. Lenny was a made man and Isiah
wasn't. We had to sit still and take it. It was among the Dolans. It was real greaseball MGS (stuff). They even shot Isiah in the face so his mother couldn't give him an open coffin at the funeral.

Bonn - you already know I don't play amateur GM, nor do I play amateur GM online.

With that said... If Lebron is a Knick in 2009-10, I'll buy you and djsu dinner.
