Marbury AWOL from Knicks
BY ALAN HAHN
2:00 PM EST, November 13, 2007

Point guard Stephon Marbury was AWOL from the Knicks' morning shootaround today, possibly after being informed that he would not be in the starting lineup tonight due to poor defense.

It is unknown whether or not Marbury will show up for tonight's game in Phoenix.

Thomas described Marbury's absence as an in-house issue and said that Marbury would be welcomed back if he was willing to play the way the team wanted him to play.

Marbury's benching comes after a subpar effort against the Miami Heat on Sunday, after which Thomas criticized his players for poor defense and turnovers.

A report in today's editions of the New York Daily News cited a high-ranking Knicks official in claiming that the team was in talks about Marbury's future with the team.

Marbury is owed $42 million over the two years remaining on his contract. A buyout would be costly, but not completely out of character for a franchise that paid an $18.5 million settlement for the firing of Larry Brown in 2006.

5 games into the season and the **** is already hitting the fan.

I Love This Game!

The best part is that for the first time in his career, Marbury doesn't deserve this. How's that for irony?

I kind of called it earlier in the thread and said he should lay down, fake an injury or something and just bail out like he usually does. In typical Punk Ass fashion he delivers.

My 37win prediction is looking prophetic and if I stick it that's 2 yrs in a row of sizing this team up TrueBlue style

I need to be rewarded with something if I get back-to-back predictions correct.

Isles we might as well get a business venture underway and start filling positions.

I'm thinking about Truck Rentals. Marbury might have a lot of downtime coming up and could use the work.

Clearly we didn't have enough drama with our team. I don't like where this is going. Not one bit. When do we get back to basketball instead of these "extracurricular activities"?

When Isiah is escorted out of MSG.

per isola on SAS:

- steph is AWOL
- after he heard he lost his starting spot, he left and he's not with the team and the knicks say they don't know where he is
- isiah said he still wants steph on the team and this is an unexcused absence
- zach is not with the team
- mardy will start tonight
- and isiah alluded to eddy possibly NOT starting tonight b/c of production
- steph is being used as the scape goat

it's bizzarro world.

I like that one but I was thinking something more prestigious yet gully. A swag and accomplishment that puts us(Haters) in Penthouse business suites on whatever floor we choose meanwhile we'll put luvas, oohahs Rembees and the likes in the dungeon working graveyard shifts referring to us as UNCLE everyday.

Just wondering, but what happens when the Knicks continue to lose with Marbury sitting on the bench or away from the team altogether? Whose fault will it be next?

Or is this a 2 year minimum scapegoat thing, like LB?

Nice, so the 2 scapegoats are the 2 guys acquired in Isiah's 2 biggest trades. Trades that Isiah gave up 4 possible lottery picks for. But why would anybody place blame on Isiah?

I'm loving every second of this. When they come home from this roadtrip at 2-7, the MSG crowd is going to be vicious to the person clearly responsible for all of this. I can't wait.

With Curry and Marbs sitting the only obvious choice to be the next scapegoat is Jamal.

I'm pretty sure Marbs is responding to the fact that Isiah promised him the world and then threw him under the bus.

Man I wanted Nate to start. At least we get a good look at Collins. Who is going to start for Curry? Morris? Randolph might not even play.

While he may be throwing people under the bus. Isiah is definatly sending a message. You don't produce you will sit. No matter who you are. I wonder how Curry will respond?

This stuff is actually better than watching a knick game. I think the NY vs Miami game was the worst basketball played by 2 teams.

Larry wants Marbury traded, he gets fired.

Isiah wants Marbury traded, it's allowed.

The Days of Our Lives

"This stuff is actually better than watching a knick game"

well people, the drama is just getting good. Dolan either directed or empowered Isiah to sit Marbury to send a message. Either way, it happens early enough in the season to put everyone on notice and sell some extra newspapers while Zach is away.

By the end of the week, Randolph returns to a clutter of microphones,

"Zach, Zach... what is your opinion of the Marbury trade?"

Zach: "yo, what trade?"

once a knick always a knick

Larry Brown pissed off Jimmy Dolan. Jimmy Dolan has a man crush on Isiah Thomas.
