Well, if you are giving out points for being right, I should get a few for saying way back in the day after the Knicks signed Houston's max contract that the team would be screwed for years. I might have even made the point on this very board, back in 2001.

The problem as I see it is when some fans are more concerned with being right than rooting for their team to succeed. But that’s just my opinion.

Here is a question...If Isiah gets fired a month into the season and is replaced by Glen Grunwald but most of Isiah's players stay on the roster for a year or two (not an outlandish scenario), are you still an abused and battered victim if you root for the Knicks? Or is it OK to be a fan then because Isiah is gone?

The way I see it played is that as a fan you're allowed to feel however you want, until someone doesn't like it, then they say you aren't a real fan.

By the way Blue, I don't believe you really root against the Knicks, are happy when things go bad for them or cheer when they lose.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Its a free country, Blue. You are "allowed" to do whatever you want as long as its legal, and so far the Department of Homeland Security isn't policing our feelings. So far as I know.

So why don't you just answer the question Blue. I'm just curious to see where some fans stand. If Isiah is gone but his players remain, do you start rooting for the team?

Thanks for the reference, but in my personal evolution I've decided sometimes it's better not to pursue things to the bitter end. We've stated our opinions, and that good enough for now.

I didn't used to, but I am hoping we go 0-20 ushering in a change in management. I wish we could get the surgery without the losses, but with the state of managed-care at the Knicks today that's just not likely.

Sorry, it appeared you were asking how I'd relate to another's feelings, and I don't recall ever telling someone they weren't a Knicks fan based on their feelings, like some people do.

For myself, I just find it very difficult to root for either of Marbury and Isiah. If they were both gone it would be easy to answer, but one and not the other is hard. I'd have to reserve judgment and see how things played out.

Basketballjones, I can't believe you would choose to ingnore all of us like that including yourself.

BasketballJones would be the first guy I'd ignore. He's the one I really need the feature for because I just can't seem to avoid reading his posts.

WOOOHOOO! I didn't make the list! Jones like me more than he likes himself!!!

I don't get it. How do Knicks losses mean Marbury is gone. He is under contract, one that is up in two years anyway.

Somewhat outlandish because Grunwald was discussing things back around spring of last yr that didn't coincide with what transpired thereafter. None of things he's stated to the season ticket holder fans(dj) has happened. We were supposedly looking to find a point guard in the draft to groom and replace Steph and gain cap flexibility.... in 2yrs. I wonder why none of those things appear likely at this point from how the team is being ran since and overall future outlook?

If I SAY UGH is zxed the roster will change and Grunwald will try and rebuild this team through the draft first and get our cap under control by ridding it of it's wasted contracts.

The presumption is that Marbury gets the boot ASAP by new management. I know he has a difficult contract to move, but equally bad contracts have been moved before.

I'll be at the game on Sunday. WoW I can't wait to root for my Knicks. They need to play better defense. I think this game Sunday will be a good showing for my Knicks. This will force pain on the haters. Just them thinking about us Knicks fans having so much fun.

At this rate it won't matter who's on your ignore list because you'll be banned by the end of the week.

Papabear Says

CodeUnknown: If I am banned then so be it but I don't think so. Maybe you wish I would be. I think you've been drinking some of that hate juice again. You need to go on the love wagon.

Papabear

Listen Bear, half the time I can't parse through your babble. But, here's something to think about. You shouldn't be talking about hate with your rather checkered history of calling other posters racists.

Papabear Says

Codeunknown damn 5:40 AM you are posting me! What are you some kind of hooked on posts person? Go to bed and get some sleep. I repeat what I said about race. I will not bring race to this forum. It does not belong here. What ever I said prior to that I stand behind it.
Well its about time for me to leave the house and go to the game. The Knicks will win! you can bet on it. All you Knicks fan in the house say OOOH Lets go Knicks! Ha Ha Ha

Yes, usually for longer ones.

OK, so you root for the team once Isiah and Marbury are gone. So, lets say the new GM follows the Garden MO under Dolan and includes David Lee in a deal for Ron Artest.

Are we still rooting for the team to win?

Papa, here's the deal. In the beginning I thought you were cute in a naive way; even when you were calling me a racist in every post. But you you've yet to evolve past that. I don't think I've seen a single post from you that was about the Knicks. All you do is come here to complain about the site, and warn the moderators of doom, and bait posters with your name calling.

You say you can debate with the best of them, and you love your knicks, but I've seen nothing from you that proves either. I'm not sure you've ever watched the Knicks, since you rarely, if ever, speak of the players or the team, outside of "Zeke and Marbs". No, you offer three flavors: I hate the site; I disrespect the moderators; I hate the posters and will bait them with personal attacks ranging from "hater," to "racist," to a combination of the two like, "all you guys who don't support Zeke and Marbs are racist".

And you see yourself as the type of poster who should be valued and catered to? You are the biggest troll here as you come not to speak of the Knicks, but solely to criticize the site and the people who post here.

Papabear says

Blueseats I won't be baited in the race game so youre wasting your breath. You are just worried about the ignore button because you deffinetly will be on my ignore button and I hope I'm on yours. I won't have to see your name. Listen Ive been a knicks fan since the early 60s I some of them presonally. I will not allow you to still my joy. Don't put things on this blog pretending its Papabear. Only a deaperate person who is about to here the Knicks won a game today.
I got to go now. I got no time for blueseats jibberjabber.

My recommendation is that, regardless of an ignore button or not, we police ourselves by considering terms like "hater," "lover," "homer," etc, as ad hominem attacks; same as calling someone azzhole, moron, etc.

They do nothing to further conversation of the Knicks, they are used solely to discredit the other poster's opinions.

I understand we've used them so much that they no longer sting, so it sounds like I'm overstating the case, but they're useless and burdensome labels used only to dumb down conversation.

Papabear Say

Blue seats knows that with an ignore button he will be nutrulized. a nothing, nobody, finished.

Hey Papabear! Look your in websters dictionary!

troll

v.,n. 1. [From the Usenet group alt.folklore.urban] To utter a posting on Usenet designed to attract predictable responses or flames; or, the post itself. Derives from the phrase "trolling for newbies" which in turn comes from mainstream "trolling", a style of fishing in which one trails bait through a likely spot hoping for a bite. The well-constructed troll is a post that induces lots of newbies and flamers to make themselves look even more clueless than they already do, while subtly conveying to the more savvy and experienced that it is in fact a deliberate troll. If you don't fall for the joke, you get to be in on it. See also YHBT. 2. An individual who chronically trolls in sense 1; regularly posts specious arguments, flames or personal attacks to a newsgroup, discussion list, or in email for no other purpose than to annoy someone or disrupt a discussion. Trolls are recognizable by the fact that the have no real interest in learning about the topic at hand - they simply want to utter flame bait. Like the ugly creatures they are named after, they exhibit no redeeming characteristics, and as such, they are recognized as a lower form of life on the net, as in, "Oh, ignore him, he's just a troll."

Despite the glee with which some posters call out others as "haters" and "not real Knick fans," I've never found it offensive. I've never understood when it became such an honor to be a Knicks fan and, maybe moreso, be recognized as a Knick fan by UK posters who themselves resort to an over simplified, "lets just root now" default. Its almost as if some believe that that "rooting no matter what" signifies a broader loyalty in one's character. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but loyalty, by definition, is a long-term endeavor. And, in my opinion, catering one's actions to the probabilities of sequalae and success is a more refined way of demonstrating that loyalty since it is couched in the reality that the present often has to be sacrificed for the future.

There are some for which being a "Knick fan" has been an important pillar of certainty in their lives, a reliable and comforting escape in other words. I acknowledge that those posters are more dependent and "bigger" fans than me and perhaps some of our infamous "haters." And, it has never been my intent to undermine the security of the trouble-free sports-fashioned "us versus the enemy" mentality because I think its important to have that outlet, wherever it comes from. The conflict, however, between "rooting" and objectivity is exacerbated in those folks and the "haters," passionate but more complicated shades of grey, gradually became the enemy. And the responsibility for this development lies with both parties; the "lovers" for failing to recognize the extent of their jadedness and the "haters" for not better approaching the sensitivities of the former. The take-home, hopefully, is that we should stop talking past each other and recognize that each of us have reasons for posting the way we do.
