When asked if he thought the team was a playoff contender, Houston expressed confidence in the strategy and philosophy of Thomas, who is entering his second year as coach.

“Last year, they kind of had the excuse that, O.K., everything was kind of new, it was transition,” Houston said. “This year, they’re going to have to take what Isiah’s telling them and execute it.

“It’s not like they don’t have a good strategy. They have an identity, I think, now, and they have the good-enough players.”

Can H2O explain how the second unit was giving the first unit(consisted mainly of starters) the Biz in practice even beating them several times in scrimmages during camp but we're supposed to understand that as playoff basketball?

And WTF cares what they look like playing against each other when 80% of our players consist of scrubs.

Does H2O know Nate Robinson played like the best basketball player on the face of this earth in SL?

I was at their open practice and they looked bad against their own bad defense. It was terrible. I hope that's not what the real practices look like. Though I wouldn't be surprised.

TrueBlue - all I'm sayin' is that rehashing the same themes gets tired after a while.

Do you know anyone who was privledged to actually witness the practice games?

If you feel 80% of the New York Knicks consists of scrubs, that's cool. I'm not in a crusade to change hearts or minds. I just want to see the gradual progress contine from the bright moments of last season, while the players were relatively healthy... and the style of basketball being played was more entertaining than in November.

I wake up with a smile on my face because it IS a new day.

Throwing dirt bombs at my favorite team ain't my thing. So sue me.

They've given us nothing to smile about so far this Pre-Season is all I'm saying. And if you go back to last yr digging up quotes you'll find a few of the players poppin off at the mouth before the season got underway only to produce another uninspiring season. I don't listen to the hype from players but you can. And there have been a couple posters in this thread that have commented on their practices and it appears they weren't impressed. What I mentioned came from a member of the media I believe Berman, who was given complete access to their early scrimmages. Now if you'd rather hang on to what H2O said, ignoring a couple of the poster's comments here who saw them with their own eyes practice/scrimmage and a well known member of the media who covers the team thoroughly, then that's your prerogative.

Have you been to any of their practices/scrimmages? If you have enlighten us If not, then the good ole acronym applies ****!

The good old acronym?

what is that?

TrueBlue - NO one is allowed inside practice.

Let me be perfectly clear and repeat. I don't "hang" anything on what anyone says. Not the players, not Isiah, not anyone. They are obligated to talk to the press as part of the job description. The nornal quotes rarely venture past what they have been prepped to say. They understand that ANYTHING they say can be used against them in the court of public opinion.

So, no, I don't place any stock in stock answers.

So what you're saying is, you're not allowed in practice, so you haven't seen anything.
You don't think that the players or management speak the truth, so you haven't heard anything.
Basically, you're just using your imagination to determine what you think may be happening behind closed doors at practice when they are not stinking up the joint against another NBA team.

panos - last I checked, stinking out the joint in preseason don't count in the standings.

I don't kvetch over practice. Practice? Man, we talkin' 'bout practice...

how silly is that?

we talkin' bout practice. Not the game. Not the game. Practice.

(long pause)

But I DID stay at a Holiday Inn Select In Las Vegas during Summer League

So if we can't judge anything by preseason games, then we should just shut down the site until Nov 3.
OR you can stop making predictions based on nothing you've seen or heard.

If you have been following anything at all this Pre-Season/Camp you'd know certain members of the media have had full access to their practices/scrimmages and they have had a couple scrimmages open to a limited public.

Like I said if you weren't there then STFU!

What I saw at their open practice was a very loose and unprofessional style of play. Granted, I assume that all their practices are not like that. However, if I were running the team, I'd want to put out the best most professional looking practice for the die-hards. I mean, if you are gonna let people watch you practice -- then make sure you look damn good.

Instead, I saw the same old Knicks. These guys did not run their offense at all. They are not a unit. The ball-handlers were not getting the ball into play. They were dribbling until the movement would grind to a halt. Then they'd force difficult passes into the post once it already became obvious that the post play was their only option.

What I wanted to see was crisp movement away from the ball. And I wanted to see our ball-handlers reward the crisp cuts and movement by putting the ball into play and moving it around. I mean, if you were on the team and you learned all the plays and you ran your ass off trying to execute -- wouldn't it frustrate you that your PG's could not do their part to get things moving? I'd be frustrated. And I'd imagine that the frustration will have the gradual effect of causing players not to run the plays with the same precision that they might if they knew they'd get the ball.

So our failure to move the ball around early is dangerous in that it might snowball into a greater problem once the off the ball players get frustrated. What you'll see as a result is guys finally getting the ball in their hand and putting up a bad shot -- because hey, if they aren't get the ball within the concept of team play, they might as well jack up a shot or two when they have the chance.

This is an extremely pessimistic analysis, but hey -- it's what I saw. And as a player myself, I can relate to the frustration one feels when their work is not being rewarded. So take it for what it is -- my humble opinion. I ain't saying things can't change, I'm just saying I haven't seen one sign that they will.

If this was a conversation strictly between you and misterearl you'd have wasted 5-10min of your life typing up your response/reply. He Stevie Wonders Ray Charles post like these. Anyway usually in game results are a product of what's going on behind the scenes and your breakdown of what you saw with your own eyes is evidence of such. But like you stated things can change but with this team don't hold your breath on it.

i think this is grounds for an immediate ban.

one thing i will say about the open practice, there were more than one occasion the ball handler brought it past halfcourt, and as the team was setting up in their offense, a wing player was wide open asking for the ball. most of the time they didn't get it, or they got it too late so the defense was able to adjust.

it's that split second that makes the difference between an open shot or drive to a tough one. our guards are NOT good at recognition.

Guys, Isiah is way too clever to let his secret new system out of the bag.

Look how secret the Quick was; he still hasn't let us see it.

all right now i know you guys won't believe it from me but i want evil, djsu and jimimou to address how hard jerome was working at that practice. who took extra wind sprints when he didn’t need to? who was battling for position in the post and getting looked off by our numbskull guards? who was even out there in the first freaking place WITH A KNEECAP FILLED WITH KETCHUP FOR CHRIST SAKE!?!?!?!?!? tell them, guys.
