Magic # still 5
Bad outing for Pelf, bats still hitting but not enough.
Let's see Glavine rebound from his last bad start- and go 7. Need a W.

didn't have pedro the whole year.
now duque is hurt.
alou was out (and he's your 2nd best hitter, maybe your best).
loduca has been hurt on and off.
delgado has been hurt.
beltran was hurt the first half of the year.
maine has never thrown this many innings.

willie is catching alot of heat...but managers do get the full brunt of the the ire.

another question, what are mets fans thoughts on rick peterson?

He's gotten more out of Oliver Perez than any other coach that's had him.

how about the NL wildcard:

padres -
philly -
rockies 1
braves 3

and for 3 days only, are mets fans the biggest braves fans on the planet?

No- we're not the biggest Braves fans on the planet.
We root against the Phillies- but we're the biggest MET fans on the planet.
We have to take care of our own buisness.
As far as Rick P- I think he's proven he's a very good pitching coach- He's gotten more than I thought possibile out of our staff. He's also proven you can't solve a weak staff or bullpen with just a good pitching coach.
Please let's get 7 strong from Tommy G tonight. Humber tomorrow.

I am worried about the playoffs. The Mets have been so inconsistant lately, definitely the wrong time to be inconsistant. Rick P. has been good, the Mets just need another good starter and a better bullpen.

crazy 9th inning.

moises alou is the best hitter on the team. and if he was eligible, he would be an mvp candidate.

willie would've been destroyed today if chavez got caught stealing on third - didn't understand that play.

reyes is a heck of a player, but a bit of a hot dog. losing 4-0, he hits a leadoff homer then goes back to the dugout dancing around like he just hit the go ahead homer. then almost getting picked off at first? the guy's talent is unreal, and he's just a kid, but he has to mature a bit if he really wants to take his game to an MVP level.

but there may not be enough games left for the mets to lose the division. then everybody's 0-0 and it's a whole new season.

travla - mets hitters have been consistent throughout the past 3 weeks. mets are putting up runs. the inconsistency is from you pitching staff. but that's on minaya.

ironic that the Yanks will probably clinch a postseason spot before the Mets do this year after the start both teams had to the season.

Mets starters are fine. If you took last years bullpen(71-6 after leading in the 6th inning) with this years starters and offense, the mets would be favorites to win it all. Losing Sanchez while signing Mota and Blowenweiss were big mistakes. I don't expect them to do much this year in the playoffs with their bullpen. But I also expect Minaya to rememdy this in the offseason.

Weren't you praising the Mets bullpen just a month ago? I guess things changed. Like "if the playoffs started today, the Yankees wouldn't be in the playoffs".

The Mets starters are not fine. Who do you match up against Peavy or Young, or Webb or Zambrano? The Mets don't have an ace or anything close to it.

Assuming the Mets get into the playoffs via the backdoor, they're one and done.

Yes, before Smith hit his rookie wall, when Heilman was doing well, and Burgos was expected back soon they were fine. And yes the mets starters are fine as well. We beat Peavy, Young, Webb, and Zambrano already this year without an ace. And like I said, relying on Mota and Blowenweiss isn't going to get us anywhere in the playoffs.

We are in first place.
This isn't like 98 or 99 or 00 where we were coming from behind.
We are the front runner and losing a lead to a hot passionate team like we were in 98 and 99 chasing the Braves. But- we never quite caught them- we snuck by them in 00-
This year what happens remains to be seen- but we go to bed in FIRST with Pedro starting tomorrow. It's september baseball. It really means something. Let's see what happens. Pedro is not just a feel good figurehead or symbol tonight. W.

I don\'t think I have ever seen a team in my 30+ years watching baseball---lose like this. I\'ve seen monumental collapses--I think the Yankees take the cake up 3-0--I remember various dive bombs--heck the mets bombed that year with valentine up 4-5 with 6 games left--it\'s not that--it\'s this unbelievable amount of huge leads blown--Ive never seen so many of them so bunched together i mean they are averaging 6.5 runs a game over the last 15 and they are 5-10. I was going over leads blown and I just stopped--it has to be some kind of weird record

and if im going to lose--let me lose with el-duque coming in th5th not jason smith--i can live losing with el-duque billy wagner is obviously hurt what to say here other than we still hold the cards and we are tied for the wild card as well--the only way to go is stay positive--what else do we have?

to get swept at home by the nats is a disgrace. i don't care if people are hurt. we are a defending division champion who feasted on these teams last year. it is almost like the nerd who had enough from the bully and teams like the phillies and braves in the beginning and now the nats and probably florida are fighting back. we need to win the next four games which we can do with pedro pitching against the most difficult game of the stretch. however, we need to be aware of florida. for the past two years, they relish the role of spoilers.
