See I disagree. I think the biggest mistake this franchise has made since Ewing left is trying to turn our garbage into gold. We get good players and we are afraid to trade them because they may blossom somewhere else. Well if you make a good trades this doesn't matter. You cannot trade the players you don't want and get someone great from another team. This is why we have had to settle for other teams casoffs so often. We need to deal from strength. If that means dealing a couple of the scorers in teh backcourt, fine. If that means giving up one of our 6 or 7 young guys to bring in a shotblocker or a perimeter defender or a true PG it is only going to help us.

Time is on our side, and patience is a virtue:
shotblocker = channing frye (second year in league)
perimeter defender = jarred jeffries (first year on team)
True PG - mardy collins (first year on team/league)

Why starphuck when we have everything we need now?

channing has never been a shotblocker and never will be considered one. he hasn't even showed flashes of that in his year plus.

Isiah has done a good job coaching these guys but I still think we need a revamped backcourt and a top defensive PF to really make this team a contender. We need a true PG and a true SG and once we get those pieces, I think this team will be ready to contend FOR REAL.

I guess 3 blocks shots against Washington and Denver doesn't count..

Who is talkign about being impatient? Who is talking about Starphuching? If you think winning is on our roster and all we have to do is trade the bumbs then that is a valid opinion, but I disagree with you. Frye can block shots, but he is not a shotblocker. Jeffries is a good perimeter defender as is Q. But we still have to go to zone to cover up our lack of perimeter defense so improvement is obviously needed. Mardy Collins will be a solid player. Is he who I see as the PG to lead us. You may think so, which is fine. I do not. That should be fine as well.

It seems like people on this site have favorites and players they don't like. If they don't like them you can talk about trading them all you want. But if you talk about players that they like than your opinion is poppycock. Maybe I'm wrong but it just seems that way. Having one guy to rebound, one guy to block a couple shots, and 2 guys to play D is a good start, but not enough. It's not enough until you become a TEAM THAT BLOCKS SHOTS, A TEAM THAT DESTROYS THE GLASS AND A TEAM THAT LOCKS YOU UP ON D, IT IS NOT ENOUGH.

speaking of his college career, he was a shot blocker...wasn't he?

ranked second on the Arizona and Pac-10 career blocked shot list with 258

http://www.nbadraft.net/profiles/channingfrye.asp
Solid help defender and shot blocker

Named to the NCAA all-Chicago Regional team after averaging 19.5 points and 11.0 rebounds and 4.5 blocks, while shooting 69.2 percent (18-of-26) from the floor in the two games

in a college style help defense (zone) he excels.

He sucks at man to man defense.

Okay, so that's the point I was trying to make. I think he will get better at man to man. I think he will block some shots but I don't think he will ever become an intimidator. We need an intimidator next to Curry and Lee and Jeffries. That doesn't necessarily mean Frye has to go, but it also doesn't mean that he has to stay.

IT has done a decent job up to now, he has made some questionable decisions but for the most part he has gotten the team to play better. He is still getting a feel for his team, they are still gelling, Marbury will eventually come out of his slump. The game is about adjustments, he made one last night by pressing the hawks from beginning. thats one way to force your players to play D.

Also don't forget RV, Channing also played in the most notorious guard play conference there is, in the PAC10.

I want to see him play a few more games with Jeffries out there patrolling the paint and shutting down the wing defenders. With Qrich and Jeffries, Frye can settle down a little more on defense and concentrate on help defense and shot blocking.

So far he's only played with Francis and marbury at the top defensively.

When he's been able to run with balkman and lee, he's excelled. (backing up Curry...ahhh, I see said the blind man).

Yeah, the pac-10 is like the NBA's atlantic division. Once again, lucky for us.

channing was a 4 year player, right? Was his average or total blocks the second highest?

I think your point missed.

Then why are the Knicks 1-3 in division play? Yes, lucky for us.
