bippity - how often was Michael Jordan cited for having a high basketball IQ... anywhere?

Think about it.

Its nothing but code for something arbitrary that few can verbalize in qualitative terms

With all due respect to our esteemed host Martin, I have yet to read a functional criteria for IQ from ANYONE.

Might as well take my test if you dare.

Just because no one has defined BB IQ in a functional criteria way that you mention, it must not exist, right? That's the way the world works. In fact, I DID give you some examples, so did Bippidy. If you care not to believe it, fine by me. You and I both know that there isn't a test or statistical category kept for this kind of thing, but by golly it's not too hard to comprehend the concept.

Feel free to do your own homework on Google and grind some of the "Michael Jordan" and "Basketball IQ" references and get back to us. I am sure just about every national sports announcer has said that they thought MJ was a very smart player, which complimented his athletic abilities quite nicely.

Could be that we have some very good examples of Low Posting IQ right here.

Oh yeah, how many times has Curry been told not to lower his should into his defender when turning around in the post? Took him, what, half a year to correct that? After 5 years of professional level coaching? And when did expectations all of a sudden come into play? Or did you just make that up?

by golly?

joec32033: I took no offense and only wanted to clarify my position. I personally have no problem with the term "basketball IQ" because I know what it is intended to convey. Others might have a problem with it and I understand that position. I think that as long as there is a common understanding as to what the term means and does not mean, it can be used with no problem and don't think that it is a big deal.

it's such a simple concept... you guys who are severely overanalyzing this & making it into a racial issue is silliness... no one brought up a player's skin color or the way they do their hair in what determines basketball IQ except for those who are criticizing the use of the word.

"basketball IQ" is the same as saying "playing the right way", only certain types use the phrase.

But it's just a phrase.

Doesn't mean anything.

How to play and defend and play the Knicks?

Better come prepared to face a frontcourt radically different from having 6'8 Kurt Thomas or 6'7 Larry Johnson at center

Thats whe whole gig? that was a team full of smart players. I mean LJ went to the finals with the Knicks after that even though I wAs against trading for Mcdyess, if he didnt hurt himself, we couldve gone back to the finals that was a tough smart team C Mcdyess
F Thomas
F Sprewell
G Houston
G Ward
C Doleac
F Harrington
F Weatherspoon
G Andersen
G Eisley

that team would whoop OUR team if healthy

F Thomas - smart enough to stop complaining to the refs after years of foul calls, hit his wife which is NEVER smart

F Sprewell - left millions of dollars on the table because he couldn't feed his kids, how smart is that?

G Ward - polarized the team with his Bible-thumping fervor

C Doleac - smart? of course Doleac is smart

F Harrington - those Georgetown guys are ALWAYS smart

F Weatherspoon - smart enough to take Layden for a ton of chedda

G Anderson - UGA smart, but could not make a layup too smartly

G Eisley - see Weatherspoon above

Tom's question warrants repeating because it was a good one and was ignored: Briggs said Miles was high bball IQ whereas another poster said he was low bball IQ. *How do we determine who is right?*

what? So there is no such thing as emotional IQ? How abot IQ? You are right though, it is the same thing as 'playing the right way'
Just because some IQs exist doesn't mean anything labelled IQ exists. Also, just because something exists or can be used in a sentence doesn't mean it's *useful*

earl, where do you get off talking down to people on this site & acting like yours is the only opinion that carries any validity? who do you think you are, Jerry freakin' West? you're a fan of the Knicks just like the rest of us are... state your opinions & debate them if you like, but you don't have a right to be dissing people who's opinions don't necessarily match up to yours... this forum is here for free exchange of our views on this team... no one's more right or wrong than another... everyone has their own interpretations on this topic... respect that.

It doesn't matter who is wrong or right. It's an opinion. for example my opinion is that Darius Miles and Eddie Curry and Stevie Francis all have great talent. All can help teams win with their talent alone. But none of them have a high basketball IQ. None of them knows how to do the little things to help a team take it to the next level. You may disagree with my assessment 100%. Who cares. Why do we take this stuff so personally?
I just hope that people will like me

TMS - where have I EVER "dissed" someone's opinion in a disparaging manner?

You don't like something I said to you...

or if someone was offended, I'm certain they can defend themselves without your police work

Case in point - me and fish, mike go at it all the time

I've already told him he's one of the most intelligentbposters on this board and he's NEVER whined about me hurting his feelings

Same with djsu, who I've actually sat in section 404 with. We always go ait it openly and honestly but at the end of the day we shake hands and smile at each other then go have a beer

what's the problem?

Bonn was referring to BRIGGS & my debate on Darius Miles & you chose to chime in w/your smart ass remark about the basketball IQ of the authors... so you're saying you weren't trying to disparage our opinions w/that comment? explain to me what you meant by it then, since my basketball IQ may not be on the same level as yours on this one.
