Nate was most creative. But there used to be much more pressure to complete the dunk.

Stern still has a ways to go in bringing this facet of all-star weekend back to respectability.

I agree with Briggs regarding bringing back a limit. I still think the dunk's Nate completed in the last 2 rounds were better than Iguodala's.

TNT had so much hatred toward the Knicks. Nonstop trashing by Kenny, Charles, and Reggie. It was ridiculuously excessive. The Knicks are the target for people to vent their life anger on now. Why couldn't they just do a 60 second Knick bashing period at the start of the evening to get it all out of their system?

Charles totally cracks me up. I don't even mind his Knick bashing - he's paid to entertain and I do find him very entertaining.

The NBA changes the rules on the dunk contest ALL OF THE TIME. I think over the past 4 years there have been rule changes (don't quote me on that)...or it at least feels that way.

Remember the one where they had to "imitate" classic dunks? Guys like Steve Francis had to do the "Statue of Liberty" dunk when they are not tall enough, or have never done it before.

2 years ago (I can't remember if it was the same last year) there was a time limit. I'm pretty sure they also used to have an attempt limit but...of course...changed it .

Based upon the rules, technically, Nate deserved to win, but the rules are so foggy, the judging subjective/strategic, and so different every year that there is no conistency, which leaves the sense of it being "anti-climatic."

I recall Iggy getting a 10 on the dunk was not as good as the others that created the tie/"dunk-off" with Nate when he got 2 8's from other judges. I wondered if it was a "strategic" move by that judge to counter-balance what he suspcted was going to be lower voting because Iggy missed a few before that and felt Nate was getting some kind of "preferential treatment" because of his size.

The judges seemed like they struggled with what they were "suppossed" to do, ignore any misses, because it created a lull, especially after so many misses.

What they should do is keep everything the same excpt make something like a 5-6 attempt limit per turn.

However, as I said, Nate's completed dunks were great and was why he won based on the current rules. If not, it would have been a tie, and we would have had another dunk-off anyway.

This kind of competition is naturally flawed also because it's so subjective, so these kinds of problems are going to happen from time to time.

Nate may have had the "hieght" and "gimmick" advantage, but Iggy's size also gives him other advantages, and going last in that kind of competition has a good chance of creating an advantage too.

well, the reason they are on the knicks so much is because they are sick like everyone else on how poor this team has been for years. barkley doesn't like the knicks because they traded ewing anyway. kenny is a knicks fan and wants to see them do better. we can't say anything. we deserve the bashing. i hope it may light a fire up their butt anytime soon.

as far as the dunk contest goes, iggy deserved a tie for another dunk off. nate had a good strategy in keeping decent scores and doing the spetacular ones late. i like that he had an arsenal of dunks whereas it seemed the iggy ran out of dunks. but that backboard dunk by iggy was BANANAS! top three best dunk i have EVER seen ( and i have watched dunk contests since 89).

I don't think Charles EVER respected the Knicks that much. If it were b/c the Knicks traded him, then he would have only started there, but he's said stuff waaaaay before that, and he also said Patrick Ewing wasn't even a great player. But yes, the Knicks are the team from NY and is argueably the leagues highest marketing team. It is getting reeeeeeeeeeal old how they are sucking and it's wearing off on just about everyone now.

since cuban was present to support dirk.....dirk had to win(sarcasm). according to the shot clock, no way did dirk get the last shot off to advance.

similar officiating[judge pulling back score]with dunk contest

I'll tell you, judging from my correspondences with friends in other parts of the country, post-9/11 sympathy for NY is over and people are back to hating! They are getting one big thrill out of seeing us double anyone's spending and get 1/2 the results.

Haha...I thought the same thing when I saw that. I was like, "Oh my God, they had to show that play?" As if our season hasn't been bad enough.

Pretty darn good All-Star game though. Kerr commented that All-Star games always get close in the 4th, but I'm pretty sure that's not always true. Sometimes they can be awful to watch and lopsided.

The "D"-troit Pistons bring the East back from 21 down and 'Bron puts on a show, after McGrady started it off. I also agree with Collins about that drive he made late in the 4th game being the best of the entire game. They even mentioned Marbury as the "initiator" of when James cradles the ball "like a running back" in some of his drives. We also saw the highlights of the 2001 All-Star game when Marbury (while on the Nets) hit that huge 3 to win it after coming back from 20 down.
