we'll be at around $54mm after next year, no bad at all. but we would problably trade those expiring contracts for more 6ft outcasts

Not quite. Hoopshype doesn't have Curry's contract listed for 07/08-- figure that's about $10mill. Then you have to account for the rookie contracts, which aren't added into Hoopshype's total for that season since they're team options-- that's about $5mill between the 3 of them. So the current figure for that season, assuming we let everyone expire, is more like $49mill + $15mill = $64mill. If we do the Francis trade AND let Battie expire, you've got Francis's ~$15mill added, minus Crawford ($7.9m) and Battie ($5.2m), so add another $2m and you get $66mill for 2007/08, assuming we do the Francis trade and let every expiring contract expire. The actual number will almost definitely be higher than that, given expiring contract trades, MLE signings and new rookie contracts. But it is still a damn sight better than where we are now, cap wise.

haha. that made me laugh.

I barely post here, but read all the time. I needed it...

Is it wrong, that people suggesting K-Mart gets me friggin super riled up? He doesn't fit here. He is hurt. He is one of the worst deals in the NBA. Any rumor of the Knicks acquiring him is false. It makes no sense.

An always injured franchise player. That deal worked out poorly for both teams. You can't count on T-Mac to be healthy. Francis is 29 now and hopefully more mature than he was back then. His problems (maturity) are more fixable than T-Mac's chronic back and other injury problems.

if you're convinced we'll let contract expires so that we have a more manageable cap but right now I'm not. Not for as long as Dolan is owner

The baseline figure hoopshype has for 07/08 is $49mill. 49 + 10 + 5 = 64. I think you forgot to carry the one.

that includes the team option on JYD which won't be picked up so that brings it down to $56mm

Nope, the team option contracts aren't included in hoopshype's total team salary. That's why you have to add the rookie contracts in there. Try adding up the salaries of all the non-team option players for 07/08 and see what you get.

Steph ~20, Q ~8, JC ~8, Malik ~7, Jerome ~6. 20 + 8 + 8 + 7 + 6 = 49.

once you substract Crawford + JYD and add Francis you get $56mm

I'm turning 1050 on right now.....I hate the fan.

I hope this goes down....At the very least it gives us a reason to turn a Knick game on and actually watch it straight through....I think that might be a deciding factor in the decision with the Knicks.

Francis was supposed to be a shooting guard coming out of College but he demanded to play the point.

I think right now, before the all-star break, is the perfect time to do this trade. Gives Francis a little time to get situated and maybe get a few practices in before he makes his Knick debut. I hope it goes down.....Today.

Can't believe with this ownership anyone takes any discussion of the salary cap seriously

Yeah man they don't seem to care about salary cap so why talk about it. The Knicks have their own salary cap.....it's call "I'm rich biotch!!!"

The Knicks have the same maneuverability as any team that is under the cap. With Dolan....the Knicks can actually get any player available.....Isiah is doing a good job of at least getting players that can be moved becuase of talent or salary reasons.

People diss the Knicks management but if it wasn't for Dolan or Isiah the Knicks could not be talking about getting a player like Francis.

no your right, if it wasent for knicks management we wouldent be able to get a player like francis.. we might actually be able to get a BETTER PLAYER cuz we'd be under the cap and almost ANY player in the league would come here via free agency if we could offer decent money

if we get francis, we're not getting watson- there is no point.

I'm sorry to see Crawford go- he just hasn't been able to put it together.

But then, LB hasn't been able to put it together for us this year.

It seems a reasonable deal- as some have posted, rehabilitate Francis and you have a very tradable asset

augh. lol

Why is this so hard?

The baseline cap for 07/08 is $49m, assuming no trades, no new rookies, no FA signings or re-signing of our own players.

Curry isn't in there. Add $10m to $49m. Get $59m.

We'll want to keep our 3 rookies, but their salaries aren't added in to the $49m team total, since their contracts in 07/08 are team options. Their salaries in 07/08 add up to about $5m. Add $5m to $59m. Get $64m.

Assume the Francis/Battie trade goes down. Assume we let Battie expire. The net effect of this is replacing JC's salary in 07/08 with Francis's salary in 07/08. So add Francis's salary in 07/08 (~$16m) to the team total. Subtract JC's salary in 07/08 (~$8m). (My mistake earlier, Battie's contract shouldn't even be subtracted from the 07/08 total...)

64 + 16 = 80.

80 - 8 = 72.

So. Assuming we trade for Francis/Battie, let every expiring contract expire, and make no new FA or rookie signings, we're at roughly $72m total salary for 07/08. I don't know how to spell it out any more clearly than that.
