Just got back from the game. The kid is really really freaking fast.

First AB he hit a simple groundball and turned it into a really close play by busting his ass down the line.

Second AB he turned a routine double play ball into a force out as he easily beat the throw to first. He was one 1st with 2 outs and Jeter up. We all knew he was going and so did the Rangers. Gardner watched Jeter take a pitch before they threw over to first. Next pitch he was gone, the Rangers pitched out but he was flying and the catcher threw the ball into centerfield trying to rush the throw. The catcher had no chance even on a pitchout.

It was pretty much the most excitement of the night. Actually watching Giambi collapse at third base for a triple was right up there. The crowd was buzzing when he was on first waiting for him to go. It reminded me of when Rickey Henderson was a Yankee. Everybody in the Stadium knew he was going to go, including the other team but they had no chance of stopping him.

This kid can be a great weapon off the bench as a pinch runner. If he can hit .275 with a decent OBP he'll have a nice little career. Brett Butler is a good comparison but I think this kid is faster.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

too bad our bats fell asleep again tonight (except for that mammoth blast ARod hit)... i was hoping we could sweep these guys & the Rays & Sux would beat up on each other... we really need to win these next 2 games & go into the BOS series w/in striking range... Moose continues to impress & prove me wrong... couldn't be happier... too bad we couldn't get him the W tonight.

Ok Bonn, u have officially won me over... i admit defeat... i would be highly disappointed if the Yankees don't re-sign Giambi to a 1-2 year extension... the power of the stache must stay in the Bronx.

Like you said, it's gonna be hard to find room for him unless they pass on Texeira, which would be a mistake. He can be very good for many years. You can afford to lose Giambi if you get Texeira and upgrade at two of CF, RF, 2nd base.

some tough choices are gonna have to be made this offseason, that's for sure... Mark T is the guy we need to get but then what to do w/Giambi, Matsui, Abreu, all of whom are having good years? Damon's here for another season & he's still 1 of the best leadoff men in the game, so what do u do? does Melky get traded & Gardner move into CF fulltime? that still doesn't solve the problem if u sign Mark T... u could start Damon in CF again but his range is severely reduced... tough choices that i don't envy Cashman for having to make, that's for sure.

I agree there are tough choices. On base and slugging % wise, I'd say Abreu is having an OK year and is on the decline. I wouldn't be too upset about losing him so long as there's a decent replacement.

if u let Abreu walk there would be no replacement... basically you'd be moving Melky over to RF & starting either Damon or Gardner in CF w/Matsui in LF (assuming ur signing Mark T for 1B & playing Giambi as ur DH)

There are no outfield replacements? I'd have to see an FA list to believe that.

there are replacements but the issue is whether or not to re-sign Giambi & still pursue Mark T... if that happens then there's no room to sign anyone to replace Abreu is what i'm saying.

There's room to sign anyone who will bring in more money than they cost. We don't really know how the Steinbrenners calculate that.

they're not gonna sign Giambi, Mark T, Abreu, Matsui & an upgrade in RF & still have Damon & Melky on the roster.

Maybe that win streak against crappy teams didn't mean the team had turned the corner afterall.

The team played well for one brief stretch this season against crappy teams and it was when I was moving. Nice try though

Interesting read about A-Rod. Madonna 20 years ago would have been something to brag about but today it makes no sense. I suggest A-Rod got to the Jessica Alba posts on this sight and find a hotty from there.

Joba pitches tonight. He's been one of the few bright spots this year.

Molina can't do jack at the plate on offense but I think he has the best throwing arm I've ever seen from a catcher

That was a brutal inning. They may not use Joba for the 6th. Hopefully the Yankees can give Joba a nice, long rest between innings.

this is the absolute worst job of calling balls & strikes i've seen all year... ridiculous.
