The guys over at Knicks Film School cover this exact scenario and I got lost in the details. The short answer is Yes but I have no idea what the qualifiers for that are.

Bertans has the disease that gets a mediocre player a fortune and a beautiful wife by capitalizing on a elite skill at worst is that a bad lesson for the rookie ? The rookie will learn to be at least elite at something but will likely be much better.

Good for the player, bad for the team. Overpricing elite 3 point shooting is a categorical flaw. 3&D gets smart money. 3only gets dumb money. I want to pay for 3&Ds. Keep the no Defense 3 guys away from Knicks yoots. I know I have a strong opinion, but I probably wouldn't sign another Fournier-type for this team regardless of length.

The rookie will be better and plus he has OG, Bridges, Hart Deuce to watch as well. No need to hate on Bertans. He may not be your kind of player but if the team picks him up must be for a reason, perhaps as a specialist at ends of quarters and in last second shot situations. If he comes in and wins us a few games with a last second in bound three, you'll love him.
