He'll be 23 in March.

About the same age as Ewing when he was drafted...

Seems like a good kid. See him as a possible STAT. But yes, needs the jump shot to be next level.

DSJr is great at alley oops. If he has his game back its going to be lob city!

No, it's something he'll have to overcome. The recent numbers for lotto picks over 22 aren't the best. I don't think it will be an issue for Obi though.

At least we didn't trade anything to get him. And he'll get out of the gate quicker than Frank, Knox, and RJ -- all of whom he's older than! Hoping to get a decent PG at 23. And not Westbrook.

Thats great. If Mitch can shoot enough to keep the D honest, thats one scary frontcourt.

We draft 19 year olds and then whine about their development. I'm ok drafting someone a little bit older, a little more polished.

A bit. But biggest question in terms of the right pick was not his age but rather is he a better pick than Deni. Deni is 6'10. Has skill and IQ of a high level PG. Thought his ceiling was high enough to be top 4.

Love how they say every pick is the steal of the draft and a future star, yet they say this is the weakest draft ever.

Praying we move up for Kira or he somehow slips to us @ 23. All of a sudden, we would be one of the fastest teams in the league. Gotta move Randle, though...

Post-Draft Analysis
With a pre-existing relationship in place between Toppin and newly appointed president Leon Rose, the Knicks had targeted the explosive Dayton product from an early stage, even exploring trade opportunities to move up and select him.

Toppin, the best player in college basketball last year and arguably the most exciting, will bring a huge amount of enthusiasm to fans in Madison Square Garden. The Knicks get a readymade player who won't need much time to translate his productivity from college to the NBA. Toppin, a late bloomer who was an afterthought in high school recruiting circles, has more upside than your typical 22-year-old, but will battle the stigma of older top picks failing in recent years. -- Jonathan Givony
