Damit Shamet is a key player that will help us win a chip.
But hands down, Josh Hart is THE KEY PLAYER in this series. Yes we have a lot of them but he sits at the top for me.

Damit Shamet will be sent in to clean up isle 9 as browns ULTIMATE utility guy.

But Josh Hart will keep wemby out the paint. Harts all around play will determine the series.

OG will also take the Wemby assignment. They may alternate.

As you may have seen on one of Martin's posts in another thread, OG is the # 1 most effective defender vs. Wemby in the whole NBA since Wemby has been in the league

When the Knicks first signed Shamet and he played in the preseason I said he made me forget about trading Grimes. I was shot down by some. Man, was I right. NBA has talent everywhere if you find them and give them a chance. Grimes really hasn't lived up to the promise he once had, and Shamet is like Anthony Mason and John Starks who developed with rugged effort and never say die attitude

If shamet started instead of hart, wemby will be pulled far away from the rim. I can see Mike brown playing lots of 5 and out lineups to keep the human eraser out the paint. He can’t guard towns or OG. IHart was an easy cover but we have 3 pt shooters and hart needs to find his jumper early or we will see an early Shamet substitution. Hes been on a heater

Yes I think while the starting lineup isn’t as important, we need to see a lot of 5-out lineups. We really don’t need Hart playing 36 mpg. We need a lot of Deuce and Shamet minutes to slow down their dynamic guards and keep the Spurs defense honest. I expect mostly an 8-man rotation in the finals with Deuce, Shamet and Mitch (if he’s good to go) playing a ton of minutes. Jose and Clarkson might get some spot minutes, but this is the finals. Knicks have an opportunity to give the spurs a different challenge that okc couldn’t if we do this.

Just a great job of player development by the coaching staff. Shamet went from JAG to one of the best 6th men in the entire league. He’s gonna get paid in the offseason

yup. definitely won't be able to resign him, which sucks for us but good for him. Hopefully, Deuce can fill in on that role.

Outside of his recent hot streak, we have seen what he has been most of his career which most of us have not been following.
He is an 7 year veteran who has been a spot starter more earlier in his career.

I am thrilled he has stepped up this playoff run! I think we got what we signed up for. His injuries last year really held him back. This year he was able to return and along with Deuce to shake the rust off just in time. Crazy shooting of late.
He looks to have put on more muscle of the last few years and perhaps was able to stick having impressed Thibs last year with his footwork on defense. This year he had some ups and downs.

I hope he has a wonderful finals and gets very well paid! After the parade!!!!

The Knicks can offer him 104% of the MLE next year - his early bird rights - up to 4 years I think? So the only thing that the Knicks can't beat is something that started at above the MLE and was cap space for a team at something more than $15.5M.

That's what teams got to beat. I don't think teams are that much in the hunt to start him at $17M of raw cap space?

Yes we can absolutely keep him if we want. I think he’s earned money but I don’t believe teams will offer him anywhere near MLE money. Teams are realistic about him being a longtime journeyman who is just fitting a specific role perfectly. I think this run has mainly just gotten him out of the year-to-year minimum contract stuff and will get him a real contract.

Deuce is definitely going to play alot next regular season to fill in for Shamet and I definitely expect Mo to be back on a 2 year deal with lots more playing time.

True but I think that’s based on taxpayer MLE. most teams over the cap can still offer non taxpayer MLE. I would love to have him back and if he takes a hometown discount great I just can’t see nobody offering him a deal after he lit it up for the entire playoffs

Will be interesting to see what Jose does. Does he opt out or stay the last year of his contract

huh? You are not making sense. The Knicks can offer Shamet 104% of the MLE. So they can exceed any team with the MLE. So any team that wants to sign Shamet away from Knicks will need to have at least $16M in cap space to use on him.

Those are the options. They are very black and white.

PHilC not reading the reports that Knicks are prepared to go over the apron for two years and bring Mitch and shamet back?
I think how both do in this series might determine their fate? Knicks win you run it back. Nice two year deals with team option.

I doubt most GM's are guilible to to players getting hot and siging them to big money based on a hot streak even if its in the sportlight.
Not saying it hurts by any stretch. Have to look at their body of work, age, injury history, ceiling, etc. Also not all teams need the same thing. Philly could say they like Shamet better than Grimes and give him 8mm per year for two years. That he spend a year in Bkn, and two with knicks matter? He has a relationship with a NY girl, it might. Building a life here might matter? Thoughts a post playing career?

Knicks fall short they have to look in the mirror and decide can they get better and what will that take. Leon traded DDV after signiing him for 4 year deal. That was a bit cold but we got better.

Using terms like "definitly" when the outcome is not known is not something logical.
As for Diawara? A guy not in this rotation now is a very big mystery. We could lose him. Can we sign and trade him? Not saying we should, and for sure not knowing what comes in return but I'd say he holds value as very good 1st round pick if an opportunity presents itself.

Two outcomes perhaps depending on if we celebrating a chip or gearing up for another run.
