Unbelievable. Basketball can be sooo pretty

The offball motion at the 40 to 44 second mark. Hart diving in the paint. Two corners and two guys moving to the top of the key. Three defenders packing the paint and the corners are wide open. Two closeouts to the top of the key have their back to the board. Randle slips too far into the paint. Can't closeout in time. Yabu fires. Bridges fills the space where Randle used to be (also the high probably rebound location) forward looking and heads up, but not needed cause Yabu catches nothing but net. High probability they get the O rebound off that if it missed.

That's analytically amazing 5 out offense. Off ball movement that tracks probabilities. Motion that creates positional advantage and vertical spacing. Gorgeous.

Yup, every instance of player and/or ball movement makes the defense have to make a decision. Every decision the defense makes is an inflection point and gives them more opportunities to make a mistake. This is why I was never high on ISO offense with no player movement. You give the defense rests. They are easy to gameplan againt and they provide little chances for the defense makes a mistake.

Exactly.

Looking at the team stats, this game is interesting. TWolves shot 47% from 3 on 40 attempts. They took 8 more FTs and shot 88% from the line. With a hit shooting night, how’d they get blown out by 23? Knicks matched their shooting from 3. Got busy in the paint. And outrebounded them by 19 rebounds. Monster night for the Knicks. Really interesting numbers here

I really like seeing Randle at the end of the game, laughing with Ant on the bench. In Grizzlies uniform. While being blown out. Such a positive person!!!

This is pretty much like attracting double teams in the post. Look at all those black jerseys trying to keep him off the boards. Mitch's elite offensive rebounding is almost like having an elite post scoring player. You guys sure you really want to trade him away?

KAT's been a different player since the donut in Milwaukee! He's not shooting the three at his normal average but he's been great in the paint! Another Shaq like dunk! And he's not tripping over himself on his drives! Very happy the way he's been playing!

And Josh Hart with another Josh Hart game! 4/5 from three! No hesitation! Deuce finally back on track too! The bench is really producing! 55 points off the bench!!!

And OG and Mitch on defense! That sequence with Mitch put back and block at the other end man!

If he can unlock Yabu, then the picture will be complete!

I think Yabu is playing through some form of back problem or something. Back looks stiff. Possible he is just carrying too much upper body weight. But he is walking ass-out and a bit hunched over. I might be seeing things, but he looks like I look when I have a crick in my back.

If you REALLY want to see things, just head back to the GameThread first page

For whatever reason, I'm giving Yabu until after the All-star break. He played all summer long and was a main cog for France, playing a big role and probably more minutes and games in 1 calendar year than he EVER has over the past 12 months. Recall when Brunson and Hart came off of National team Worlds or whatever and how much down time they needed before getting back into the flow.

I won't go all conspiracy theory like normal, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Knicks know they got lots of guys to integrate, Mitch in and out of lineup, and 9.5 player rotation whatnot, and are purposely bringing along Yabu slowly. And he may have a slightly different role on team, so the iHart half year adjustment period may be a thing here too; I know Brown has talked about the adjustment for both KAT and Yabu being the greatest on the team, and he is the new guy. Maybe even a slight wear and tear thing going on a bit and the Medical team is flexing with the load management. Play him in small spurts so he gets some reps and feel for the other guys, but also if he is the first to get pulled for now, no biggie.

TWolves took 83 FGA total in game, Knicks took 102. Rebounding, especially offensive.

Wait I thought the timberwolves were better than us because they had Randle and DDV?

Maybe just wishful thinking on my part but I think Clarkson is playing very well and in the flow while also providing creativity and paint touches we need.

Clarkson is good for 1 "WTF" pass, but he puts a lot of pressure on the defense and can finish at the rim. Neither him or Deuce is a PG, but both can handle and do enough. Clarkson particularly good at getting the "sprays" that Brown wants. Kick out 3s.

Kind of looks like their motion opens up better chances at long ORebs off threes. And MitchBeast is just a dominant force on the block

Was going to bring this up as a general question. What does everyone think of the second unit “PG” play between Deuce, Hart, and Clarkson and if it’ll be enough in the long term?

Deuce’s handle looks improved. Brown looks like he is aiming to have Clarkson handle and be a rim diver and C&S guy, all looking pretty good to me. And then you got Josh who’d rather pass than shoot.

I think it works except maybe needs to be tested under extreme pressure teams like Miami or OKC or Indy from last year?

I’d love to see Kolek work out but he’s just not ready for a deep playoff team.

Don't forget to add Bridges. His playmaking has improved and he looks comfortable handling secondary ball handling responsibilities.

Yes. I was thinking of guys off bench when Jalen wasn’t on court but 100%
