Nothing you say is wrong. I like a good reclamation story though. Put Simmon’s head aside for a moment. That’s hard.

In this first scenario, just think of him as an end of quarter defensive stopper for just a moment. Up 1 point with 12 seconds on the clock. Just want a stop. You could sign Delon Wright for that role. But Simmons is an elite defender at 6’10. You put Simmons, Bridges, OG, Robinson on the floor and that stop looks pretty good.

Next, let’s just let him run with Clarkson, Bridges, Yabu and Huk. His sole job is to get the ball out in transition and find the open man. Any doubt he will make the right pass in transition?

I’m not saying out this guy in the starting rotation. I’m not saying there is no risk. But he is a high reward upside play with bare minimum usage as a defensive stopper and run and gun transition PG.

I’d put him above Kolek on the depth chart.

Ok. I will give you that. With 12 secs left in the game and needing a stop is the only time he would be preferred over Kolek.Maybe. What if he gets a rebound and gets fouled immediately? Not such a great look now is it ?

Ben Simmons made like one bad play and Rivers thru him under the bus. He ****ed up but Doc handled it bad. Ben was ROY, Three time allstar and runner up DPOY before the disconnection four years ago.
He played 51 games last year. I'd think that before we put him in a playoff end of game pressure scenario he'd be battle tested over a season to see how he responds both mentally and physically. More importantly his teammates have to believe in him. That takes time to build trust. Not saying it happens just because we sign him. Its a process.

I'd figure knickswould have a plan to bring him on into a role agreeable to him and the team. How that looks? I don't know. One might say bring him slowly and build up the pressure. Or, Bring him on early and let him get into a groove. If he gets hurt or can't get into it then he sits or is waived. Succeed, he gets a new lease going forward. Little risk for team. He joins a vet coach and a taem that has a culture of a brotherhood in the lockeroom. Thats on him.

The kid has talent and he'd be competing for his role and demonstrate execution. Players and men all go thru **** and its how we respond to adversity and adapt. In this league talent gives you opportunities. Physically he looks to have added muscle to his frame. Mentally? I'd think he'd have to had worked thru the issues. Back problems can be psychologically induced for many reasons.
He passed the ball and should have dunked it. Even on these pages we define him for that moment.
Im rooting for him to break thru as a knick. Be a great story and he could be the guy that puts us over the top.

Really good post. I was thinking Bryant, Shamet, or Achiuwa for the last spot, but you're right- the upside for Simmons is really hard to ignore. Bill Simmons said in his pod cast that last year with the Clippers, Simmons would pass as soon as he crossed half court. That made me wary but you know what, maybe this team as selfless as it is could be the right spot to get his head right.

I agree completely about Doc and Embiid throwing Simmons under the bus. That play wasnt even really that bad. I think he just became the scapegoat for Doc failing to get the 76ers over the line.

Come on. Precious, Cam, Shamet, and DWright are all worth a vet min contract.

Malik Beasley next up on the rumor mill? Reports out he in the clear.
This were you trade Deuce for future pick(s) and clear some space for him?
Not my favorite off court character given his gun toting history or noise from his marriage/fatherhood but if he satisfies our due diligence then its about his on court talent. Might not win any "Good Samaritan" awards any time soon but this is about chips. Read Detroit moved on from him and don't have the money they had earlier in the summer.

I would hard pass on Beasley given he is financially compromised and has been low character in other ways. That said its a million dollar question for every contender now. He is a min contract player now given how late in the summer it is, contracts have been given and he is high risk.

My feeling as well. Good shooter but what does a guy with a couple of character strikes bring to the team’s chemistry?

And Malik was kind of an ******* in the playoffs, right? This wasnt Artest in Houston locking up Kobe in the playoffs as an oncourt interview situation, just a dude being a dick for the sake of it. Hard pass on Beasley.

Don’t mind that as much. We have John Starks and Oakley in our fan hall of fame. Not exactly liked by opposing fans.
Other issue is that we would probably have to trade Dadiet, Kolek or both to get it done.
Guess we have to trust the FO?

Still not understanding why Knicks haven't signed Shamet to a vet min? Or not?

Front office (Rosas) should have a very good feel as to whether or not Beasley would be a good chemistry fit.

Rosas was in Minny and gave Beasley 4 for $60M? contract — Beasley also spoke fondly of Rosas.

Aside from only having the vet min to offer you would think the Knicks could try to lay out some type of financial planning (plan) for him and/or sell him on potential for longer term deal next year.

Kid is screaming for help off the court but don’t know if he would accept ANY help and no idea if he is a likable teammate or not.

Seems like there could be several different scenarios in play here.
1. Knicks told his reps to give them a little time to rearrange things financially?
2. His market is lower than we think and there are few willing to take on his off court issues?
3. (Most likely scenario)Teams are in no rush right now with any final roster spots. Maybe things start to happen after Labor Day and most likely towards the end of September.

Reported Beasly is not the "Target" of an investigation but is a "subject".
That does not put him in the clear just yet.
If so his recent statements would be delusional to the reality that might be coming.
What does that all mean? Stay tuned.

Clarkson had a good 3pt season but otherwise shooting been not to his career standard.
there is a reason he was priced at vet min and we got him.
Hope is at 33 in a reduced role he can have a bit of a resurgence?
Im not expecting his best but it might not be needed for the signing to be successful.
We need him to be a microwave and Brown give him the hook before he is a detriment.
With is body type and perhaps good health we can wish for a Jamal Crawford type result?
Its a good potential signing. Should prove to be an upgrade from Payne.
