I mean mad respect for Jonas. How many players in the league are gonna get you 12 pts / 8 boards in only 20 minutes per game? The guy came in both games and was a total load for the Knicks to handle. I honestly think if he played more in the first game we might have lost, because we didn't really have answers for him and probably would have fouled out KAT. He is an old school player, but he does what he does as well as anyone. This is why when there was a lot of debate about Zach Edey, it was confusing, because you know a player like that is productive, but its just not the style you see anymore.

Anyway, there's maybe a world where having Jonas to spell KAT gives us the ability to keep a scoring 5 out there when KAT is in foul trouble, and still win the boards. But its bad spacing and even less range on D. He did stick 2 3's against us yesterday, but I don't think he really stretches the floor the same way.

But I think the Knicks are just showing some respect as he's been in the league a long time and is a real gamer.

Jonas also played with Hart (in NO) and OG (in TOR) so thats not unusual theoretically.

Hypothetically speaking they could do something like Mitch+Precious for Jonas/Kispert - maybe they throw back that Wizards pick. NOt saying I'd do that, but that's the the kind of deal that it would be.

Jonas, Kat sounds like a great pair. Precious off the bench at 4 and 5 is great. It just makes too much sense.

Kispert is on one of those rookie extension contracts so the math might be weird.

Would the Knicks do a Mitch for Jonas contract straight up? Or would Wizards want more, like their 2026 pick back? And if Washington wants their pick, is that OK from the Knicks perspective? Probably not.

I’d guess that the Wiz would value getting that pick back.

Would the Knicks in turn want a young wing like Patrick Baldwin? He’s not getting minutes cause of the other young guys on roster.

If Knicks don’t think Mitch can play effectively this playoffs, Mitch and Wiz 2026 pick for Jonas and Baldwin. Wiz get a big body to compliment Sarr next year and assurance on keeping their 2026 draft pick. Knicks get a backup big, future wing, and cap space for someone like TJ Warren at the cost of that 2026 pick.

I thought Deuce played really well in the 3rd/4th quarter last night during the run that basically separated us and closed the game.

Not necessarily knocking Jonas but just watching his game --- how do you see it being different vs say our old friend Enis Kanter?

I see a guy that can score/rebound inside like Kanter but I don't see much else BUT I haven't watched him much or often.

For example - how would Jonas fit against say Celtics?

I can't help but think we as Knicks fans highly overrate Deuce.

I tend to think if he were traded he would quickly fade into the oblivion of just another NBA bench guy.

Wonder if we would be better to package ALL OF Mitch/Precious/Deuce for just 1 very good 6th man player (who is legit starter material).

Who that would be - I don't know.

And to follow up on Deuce -- do we really think Shamet given Deuce's minutes with this highly talented team could not provide equal or better to what Deuce is capable of?

I tend to think Shamet is the better player but I still like/love and will cheer for Deuce.

Jonas has way more offensive talent that Kanter. He kind of is unstoppable inside of 10 feet with his back to the basket. He was hitting jumpers last night too. His rebounding is pretty ridiculous too. Getting 8+ boards per game in 20mpg is quite nice.

I don't think you can play 5 out with him, but he gives you a real offensive weapon on the bench and a true substitute for rebounding when KAT is off the floor.

I don't buy that Kat/Jonas is a great pairing as our center combo - maybe but I don't think so.

Anybody know if Gerssan Rosas and Jonas' paths have crossed in the past --- that could be an indicator?

Not at all. Shamet can't really defend and Deuce's all out hustle makes a major difference in games, as it did last night. I still think Deuce's shooting is equal or better than Shamet too.

SHamet is a nice shooter/scorer but he's been a fringe rotation player in the NBA over 6 seasons, mainly because he's a bit one-dimensional (though his dimension is the most valauble skill in the NBA- which is why he sticks).

No problem with him offensively and rebounding just wonder about the other side and rim protection.

I think I'd be more excited if we landed a healthy (?) Robert Williams who can guard everyone, protect rim and passes very nicely.

Health - yes the big ?

I don't know about all that.

Deuce is a below average defender despite the effort - Shamet's height alone may give him an advantage. I still have nightmares watching Deuce guard TJ McConnell

Deuce has also been a fringe rotation player in NY and prior to last season Deuce hadn't shot +30% from 3. Only 3 (3PA) attempts PG for his career.

Shamet never shot below 37% from 3 (7 years) before last year with Wiz. Shamet has avg. 5 (3PA) attempts PG over his career.

I think they are closer than we think and Shamet only 27 -- not like he is 32.

Deuce's first shot at minutes was last year. I think calling him a below average defender is a wild take. Ill let you find supporters for that one. And even with a bad run of form he is well over 40 pct on very high volume on 3s. One of the best shooters in the league in calendar year 2024.

Shamet couldnt even get a guaranteed deal this offseason. I like his signing but he's year to year depth, not core.

I think the primary separator is the defense Deuce brings. Top notch especially at POA
