In an age when the focus on player health has taken renewed importance, it seems only logical to limit the most violent collisions to the extent reasonably possible.

I don’t like JB taking charges, even though I selfishly love the TOs it creates for the team, but I don’t want my two top players putting themselves in harms way. Banning the charging foul will stop players like love from undercutting players flying to the rim. JB actually gets the call while players on still on the ground. But I thought the nba wanted to see more high scoring offense from their stars while protecting these million dollar investments.

What happened to simply playing defense at the rim vs under cutting someone in the lane when they looking for an espn highlight play. Charges should be banned. JB will be the next player injured. Why wait unti the next star is done for the year. Doesn’t make since and charging is not a natural movement in basketball. Jump and meet the guy at the rim. That’s how I remember playing defense.

I get worried with calls for Derozan and Lowry. I’ll take Lowry first.

1) Lowry would take minutes from McBride. Small sample set, but McBride is a lock down defender that is shooting 47% from 3 on catch and shoots. A .62% TS%. Athletic but undersized, he was my top draft choice with the 19 pick even though we got him in the 30s. We haven’t seen the strength of his game yet - he is best in the mid range as a spot up shooter. In games he rushes his shot a bit, but if there is a candidate for the “game slowing down” and a young player that will benefit from playoff experience. I don’t know how far we go in the playoff this year. But this team will be together for 2-3 more years as presently constructed. Let’s take our shot with this guy. I think he will earn out. He has grit. So, no to Lowry.

2) Derozan is a good dude. If he was on my team, it would be hard to trade him. But I would. Classic high volume low efficiency shooter. We think of him as clutch but at his age, as the top player on bad teams. I can see why you would want him, but he doesn’t really fit the mold. I don’t know that he results in more wins this year, but I am pretty sure a trade for him results less wins after this year.

Let’s see how the Knicks adjust tonight vs the Hornets. They have like 3 starting caliber PFs, but I think Precious will lock it down.

Issue for me with DeRozan is not his efficiency, defense or any other over exaggerated deficiency.
The guy can flat out ball and is a killer in any pressure situation.
Think he can be a great piece for a team like us trying to add a piece to match the elite teams rosters.
The issue I have is that some here think he would come here to backup anyone.
The Knicks, if they decide to do so, are not trading for DD to be a bench guy.
That's just our typical Knicks fan mentality where we are out of touch with the value of other NBA players and that of our own. I love Devo. Was the first to ask for a bigger role for him. Feel he is on his way to becoming an elite SG. Do not want him taken out by an aging star. But if we add DD, I would expect DD to start. Tbh, that would be the right move. Also, having Devo in the second unit would just make us much stronger overall. But of course, it all depends on what we give up. Think it's a win if we can keep Grimes out of the deal. But most know that is unlikely

I am still on the get a backup PF and spark off the bench narrative.
Randle being hurt does not change that need long term.

Now back to Randle, there’s a price to pay with that style of play. He should’ve pulled up for a mid range. Not sure I understand that move in a blow out game that was clearly over. Hopefully it’s a learning lesson for him.

Berman went there to that place questioning if Randle should have been playing with 4:30 left in a game well in hand at that moment.
Why? Because there are those that need to direct emotion to anger to sort out random acts. Randle gets hurt, they feel bad. SOmeone tells you were a victim to another's decision perceived as not necessary. When there are no answers we look one or create one. We take comfort in thinking **** is not random. By “we”, I infer “humans”.

This group has gone to the blame Thibs before but in large not going there.
Naturally someone commented “We should have made a trade before, as now we have lost any leverage”.

WE can’t see the future or what will happen next. The MRI will dictate policy more than anything. “Must be bad, why is nobody saying anything?” We all thinking this. Its a good question.

We could say “Whew, Good thing Leon and Co. got OG and Precious or we’d be screwed”. Its also “I been calling for us to get a back up PF for months”. When we do this are we also making inference “I KNew better” and that makes us feel good? Perhaps.

In times like this do we turn to god for answers? If not, can Gustav, Briggs, Nalod, or Blkexec bring it? PhilC with a one line quip?

Randle out is a bad thing. Or, is it an opportunity with longer term benefits to succeed?
Its why we watch the games.

I would say that doctor estimates are just rough guidelines. A lot depends on Julius's pain tolerance and whether they're any swelling. Usually they minimally wait 'til swelling has subsided before letting a player back on the court.

The doctors can say is whether the joint is unstable and that give an opinion on risk of reinjury. Even in those cases, that doesn't stop players from giving it a go - they wear wraps/braces/tape and hope to get surgery when the season is over.

Randle is a beast with an enormous pain threshold. Regardless, it would be criminally negligent to have him play before All Star break. Let him heal up fully and be ready for the stretch run and playoffs!

First game back from all star would be Feb 22. That's close to 4 weeks, but I'd be totally happy if he was back mid-March and had the opportunity to play 10-15 games before the playoffs started.

Not going to get too far ahead but those are warm winds blowing. I would have been happy if he were ready by the playoffs. Perhaps there will be some silver linings here - minutes for players like Precious or perhaps Jacob T, Randle’s legs getting a break from the long season, and maybe even JuJu finding a warmer spot in the hearts of the dislikers.
