I mean, he needs to be reminded he is a Knick fan. Was supposed to deliver Davis to the Knicks. Losing Robinson as a client was his own fault for not delivering Davis like he was supposed to.

why? Nobody on that team plays defense. It's Trae's show. Murray here would go back to being a top flight defensive player (or we will trade him in a year). He's not the best 3 point shooter but he's a great slasher and willing passer. He's got a real scoring bag. He's a better defender than DD and Grimes. Problem is the only thing we can give them is something like Fournier's deal, Grimes and a bunch of picks (most with considerable protection)

I would agree, but they're saying his on the ball defense has fallen off too. That is not dependent on the rest of the team. Heck, Enes Freedom put up nice fantasy league stats too. And the we got to see first hand why teams couldn't wait to get rid of him.

How about this take, with the caveat I don’t watch any Hawks games:

His all defensive team honor is probably overrated when compared to someone like OG. He is not a physical defender like OG, Hart, Grimes, Deuce… he is more shoot the gap, come from the blind side like DDV or IQ.

He can blanket smaller players.

My ideal position for him is off bench next to Deuce, Hart, and eventually Mitch.

Let him have ball in another rotation finding Brunson, OG in corners.

The juice just isn't worth the squeeze. He isn't the missing piece. His salary jumps to 25.5M next season and escalates every year 31.5M 27/28 his age 31 season. He is an Iso heavy player who is checked out when he isn't on the ball and his on ball D ain't that good.

those aren't big figure and we'd be paying for his prime years like you say.

His contract is actually considered a plus. A player of his caliber locked in for 30m per year for 4yrs

he's up to 40% from 3 this year on very high volume, might be time to accept that he's an improved shooter who has been improving every year for the past 4 years now. he also takes tough contested, unassisted 3's so that % is even more impressive.

would be disappointed if we dont get him, great value for Grimes and 2 1sts IMO

The alternative is absolutely not letting Fournier expire. We need that contract value. So trade him in a deal for Brogdon, or Rozier, or Gafford/Shamet, or one of the bogdanovics. Or worst case just pick up his option. We need that contract for a future trade somewhere. I’m just saying I’m torn between adding Murray or simply keeping the balance we have with the starters and adding bench help.

Somewhat related, I’m actually a bit higher on Deuce than grimes. I’ve been a bit down on grimes. He’s an excellent 3&D guy but his upside is somewhat limited beyond that. I’d move him sooner rather than later. His hot shooting tends to come late in games when the outcome is decided and he’s just launching freely. Then you have games like last night where it’s a huge opportunity for him and he’s a non factor. How Deuce stepped up is what you want from your young players against superior teams. Point is I would replace grimes in the rotation with a legit scorer and leave Deuce in his 12-15 mpg role.

ehh the idea of keeping Evan on the bench for a 3rd year just in case we need him as a trade chip... is just... not a good look. I would really hope we dont do that, why not trade him for someone that can actually help?

Brogdon is too old and not good enough to justify benching Duece and Grimes IMO.

And none of those guys would really be assets if we wanted to trade for a star later on. DJM could potentially be though.
