Protect the paint first, then scramble out to the open shooter. If Thibs doesn't make adjustment, ther will be more teams that will knock down over 20 3s this season. Cant blame Evan tonight. |

Tweet was deleted or there was problem with the URL: I am bringing back this picture I showed after the Grizz game. Ja literally was defended by every player on the court. 3 Primary defenders and 2 backup defenders who only was paying attention to the drive. It is why on the weakside 2 open 3pt shooters and RJ's man was all open. They have no faith that 3 players could stop ja from scoring. The weakside guys should be in the passing lanes and not in the paint only looking at Ja. If 3 people can't force Ja into taking a tough shot they should not be playing. The weakside defenders are so far in the paint they have no chance to recover on the open shooters once the pass is made. This is why we give up so many open shots or are always falling for pump fakes. This is a fundamental problem with Thibs scheme. It's been this way since he was signed. If teams shoot poorly on open shots our defense looks great. If they shoot well on open shots our D looks like trash. Thibs was never a defensive genius he just rolled the dice that teams could not hit open shots from deep. This worked back in the day because there was not an emphasis on 3pt shooting. Now every team except us and the Lakers can easily knock down open 3's. |
