I think Obi will be fine and will eventually be at minimum a solid NBA player. Beyond that who knows. One thing is certain, no matter how good he becomes we'll be subjected to posts continuing to disparage him similar to what we see with RJ. Once folks lock in on an opinion they can never admit being wrong.

Well, it seems to me that both Obi and Knox will be wrapped up in a trade for an elite player, along with some of our picks. The draft will be telling. Lot's to ponder, but waiting for Obi to develop more positional value is not likely on the right timeline for NYK.

IQ is a keeper. He's already an elite 3&D who will develop into the sort of scoring PG Thibs relishes. And he's the right age.

Mitch, Kevin, Frank and Obi seem likely to be in any mega-trade if one happens.

He is gaining confidence in his shot. His 3 pt shot is looking good lately and some better PG would find him more often in transition for dunks. Im impressed with his hustle/activity on D and the boards. The game is slowing down for him and he's making real contributions now. We have made some good runs when he's in the game. Part of that is because Julius is struggling, part of that is Obi playing well, and part of it is he's adding a bit of a different skillset and some athleticism on the floor.

“Obi played very well,’’ Tom Thibodeau said after the Knicks’ 101-92 Game 2 win over the Hawks. “Quick didn’t shoot well. Overall, he and Quick are giving us a lot for two rookies to be playing in these playoffs, doing what they’re doing. I’m very pleased with them. There’s a big upside to both guys. They’ve been terrific since they got here.’’

For 30 minutes after the final buzzer, Toppin was back on the court in an empty arena, putting up shots with Kevin Knox.”

I don't see that happening. Most elite players have elite contracts. Unless they're under the cap wouldn't the other team have to absorb contracts numbers similar to what they're shipping out?

Beside, who do you really think is going to trade an elite player for Obi, Knox and two low 1st round picks? Not happening.

the bold... usually yes, because most teams are over the cap. Knicks could absorb a large contract because they have the cap space to do so. No different than offering Kawhi the max

All possible but frank is heading to RFA with a caphold that might not be logical. The better he plays the higher his trade value if we go that route. With assets Knicks are wide open to all concepts and nothing is off the table. Maybe the trade Randle in some form? Never say never.

Obi and Mitch are the kinds of players that got unlocked with a really good PG. The way Obi can leap and roll and run the floor...imagine he was on the Hawks playing with Trae.

I have no idea what Obi’s future is. On paper it dosent look great but we’ve seen players like him make dramatic improvements. Good thing is we don’t need him to be a world beater. Just need a solid backup PF..

I am 100% in this camp. Obi also has the challenge of playing behind randle

but on a unit that created turnovers and ran, or ran on long rebounds, he will be great

I’d like to see thibs expand obis role and position next year. No reason to run Julius into the ground either. I think the minutes have shown up a bit on Randle these two games.

Randle can guard other SF’s in the league which can put him next to OBI in stretches. OBI will add something this off season which might enable this to happen. Obi, like a lot of players have usually been star players along the way but NBA is a different talent pool. He, like Knox and Frank have to do other things to stay on the floor. Trier was a unique talent scorer but could not stick given his inability to make players outside of scoring. This is half the Gleague. Guys with NBA talents but not enough in the toolbox. Fact is he can still contribute as valued trade piece and the hard work he puts in will earn him a place and a long term deal if not here. Until then enjoy the short samples of him going all out and flying down the court.
Best case is he outplays randle and forces a trade to either!!!!

"On paper it doesn't look great?" What the heck does that even mean. If that were true he wouldn't have been a lottery pick.

I just hope Obi does the offseason Julius workout and let the chips fall where they may. I think he will cook with Luca and another pass first PG

Really would like to see Obi play some occasional 5 man next to Randle. Can't do it for extended periods, but can create some matchup problems and better spacing. He averaged over a block a game in college- he has that Marion like length.

obi has excellent body language as soon as he steps on the court.

I swear some Obi at the 5 would shut down the entire Hawks defensive game plan. Capela is playing the spy linebacker essentially - roaming all over the court and providing the looming double on Randle. Noel can't space the floor, but Obi can take it downtown. I think we can put a pretty nice spurt on them with 4-5 mins of Obi at the 5 with Randle on the floor.

I’m judging based on this season. On the surface he dosent really do anything well besides run the floor and move the ball.
