I like the guy personality wise, and I think he’s not appreciated enough considering his record with us vs every other coach we’ve had in recent times. He was also ahead of the league in terms of the switching and 3 pointers. I’m happy he’s back! (But I also hope we hire some young assistant coaches too!).

Plus he seemed able to connect with players, so might be useful if Thibs proves to be a bot too abrasive

I use to not like Berman, but really warmed to him lately- guys a workhorse and pumped out lots of articles during lockdown despite there being no news. Also engages with a lot of the podcasts by fans. Sure some of his articles wind me up, but he seems an okay guy.

Precisely. That's exactly what the Knicks needed to do. Especially since defense is the one area of the game where they have serious potential.

The Houston Rockets have spent the last few years desperately trying to match Golden States offense production at the expense of putting any meaningful defense on the floor. Exactly where has that gotten them. They are no closer to a championship and there is now talk that if they don't do it this year management will break up the team.

The Knicks have finally done something sensible. Hire a coach whose priorities match the skill set of the players.

So basically he just wants to hire his former assistants, plus Woody and Mike- bit disappointing there will be no new blood, especially after such a big interview process with up and coming assistants

Hope all you watched the press conf. Hear it from their own mouths rather than read media recap is different.
As expected some pomp and circumstance to the words but thats how it goes.
ITs obvious he thinks RJ and Mitch are cornerstones for the future and Frank/knox are not quite as definable. Not to say they stick or get traded. He didn’t go there at all.

Looks like the assumption he couldn't connect with Wiggins was wrong:

“He showed some X’s and O’s and went over some actions they ran for [Wiggins],” Kerr recalled. “Some of the things they were trying to do. The thing with Tom is he’s a workaholic, loves the X’s and O’s, loves breaking down film and takes great joy in it. Our staff values his opinion.’’

“What is apparent is he and Andrew had a great relationship and Andrew said that as well. I know Andrew told me he really enjoyed playing for him and appreciated his commitment. When a coach knows his stuff and gets along with his players, he’s got a great chance to succeed. I think Tom’s got a great shot.’

literally every coach who's been around has had run ins with players that made print, some minor some major. TMac absolutely got Doc Rivers pushed out of Orlando.

I am more than comfortable with Thibs and his knocks. KAT has one all star game under his belt and thats with Thibs as coach.

Part of me is morbidly curious to know what would have happened if we had signed Mark Jackson as coach- some of the GS stuff was just bizarre!

The Warriors in the last six weeks demoted one assistant and fired another, and ESPN.com's Chris Broussard today reported that the team fired Darren Erman after learning Erman had recorded at least one coaches' meeting. Multiple league sources confirmed the gist of Broussard's report, and that Erman was concerned Mark Jackson and other coaches loyal to Jackson were insulting Erman to other players behind Erman's back.

The team had no choice but to fire Erman. However, the front office is fond of Erman and was upset at having to let him go, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter. The Erman firing and demotion of Brian Scalabrine have raised tensions throughout the Warriors' organization.

Jackson made a show of firing Scalabrine in front of players and other coaches, but he had no real grounds, and the front office made Jackson find a compromise, per a source familiar with the matter: demoting Scalabrine to the D-League. In addition, Jackson has asked that Jerry West, a high-level adviser in Golden State, not attend most practices and team activities, sources say.

The tension with Erman got weird. Midseason, the team moved Erman's parking spot to a less convenient place, likely at the behest of Jackson or one of Jackson's allies on the staff, per multiple sources familiar with the matter. They began changing his duties in strange ways. ... The atmosphere has bordered on poisonous."
It's impossible to imagine all this drama was happening within the Warriors and it was somehow everyone else's fault. Jackson was in the middle of it all. He clashed with certain players (hello, Andrew Bogut), assistant coaches, certain members of the front office, management, even beloved former Warriors TV analyst Jim Barnett didn't hold his tongue when reflecting on Jackson's Golden State tenure.

So manipulative was Jackson that he reportedly accused former big man Festus Ezeli of cheering against the team while he was sitting out with a knee injury in hopes that his absence would prove his value. Ezeli was reportedly so hurt by the accusation that he broke into tears while denying the claim to his teammates.

"[Jackson] couldn't get along with anybody else in the organization," Warriors owner Joe Lacob said shortly after Jackson's firing. "And look, he did a great job, and I'll always compliment him in many respects, but you can't have 200 people in the organization not like you."

Okay, this explains why the NYK wanted no part of Jax, and for good reason. But I find the parking spot story strange. I find it hard to believe that Jax had the ability to decide who parked where. Rather, it had to be administrative people within the GSW organization, outside of the coaching staff, which means the organization itself must have been downright Dolan-esque. And yet today they are held up as an epitome of exemplary culture. What gives?
