My bet is he never heard a fan go at him like they did last night. He had 1 good year as a knick and he has not been able to elevate his game to the point where we win games. Right now we are way down on the totem pole and melo is our main guy. He needs to be removed
The Knicks Management has constructed hands down the worst backcourt averaged our over the past decade. You simply can't compete with that. We can direct our anger at Melo but in general we have lacked NBA talent during his tenure here. We can run him out of town and honestly, if I were him I would want out at this point, but as fans we need to keep in mind how bad that will look for the franchise. NY isn't the most attractive destination to the modern athlete to begin with. We need to be careful what we wish for.
This. People can't get a grip on the premise that it takes more than just one star player to win a team sport. Most of these fanatics live in a dreamland where they think one guy should be able to come in here and take them to the promise land. Then they whine like little babies when their unrealistic expectations are not met. They just dont realize the talent level and consistency you need at all 5 positions, specially the back court, as well as solid bench play. Things one guy can't provide by himself. Then they look to make that guy the fall guy and try to replace him with another pipe dream. We just can't keep doing that. I am sure all the teams with losing records are not looking to trade their best player. Just would not make sense. Think this has been the biggest problem with us. Always looking for quick fix.
Would be first to say that Melo is obviously not at his best after coming off knee surgery. But he is still leading in scoring and assists, playing his ass off in D and up there in rebounds on a nightly basis. With bad knees. You need Melo gping forward. And its funny how the guys that knock him and dismiss knee issues as a cause are the same that make excuaes for a 20 year olds drop in numbers due to firat full season. Or claim a guy like Lin, Jimmer, every waived player, mid level draft pick is the answer.
Think we need another big name and an upgrade in the back court. Unfortunately, i dont think its going to happen by next year.
Obviously it takes more than one player to win. You are not telling fans something they don't know. What winning team has a $124mil 31yr old broken down player who no free agents of any significance want to play with. A player who finally after 13yrs in the league started showing signs of playing the right way but is starting to break down from all the wear and tear of playing professionally since 19?
Don't think it's obvious. Specially with your response in which all you do is talk about one guy! Who exactly didn't want to come here? You mean everyone that stayed with their previous team to take advantage of extra year. Or those we told they would have to play a position they did not want to play and had offers from a possible chip winner? Or Monroe who picked a squad with more than one good player and a winning record the year before? Yep, it was cuz of Melo. Come on man, stop. And if you think the triangle and weak roster is not the main reason your just not seeing things straight. And yes, all good teams have at least one max player, ussually more. And btw that broken down 31 yr old with bad knees is still leading this sack of **** roster (in points, assist and up there in bounds) that you feel will attract free agents without him.
Ummm pardon me but wtf are you talking about. You do realize this thread if about Melo regarding Amare's comments about Lin. All I said was that Amare just reaffirmed everything single thing I said about the Lin fiasco 4yrs ago.
I also said Dolan and the fans who bashed Lin deserve a laughing stock organization for years to come. I was right about that one too
Umm pardon me but WTF are you talking about?? Do you read your own.posts? Funny you stated its obvious. Responding to what you said above. Uhhh.no? And in case you haven't been on twitter today, STAT said he wasn't talking about Melo. So...
And if this is about Lin, what a waste of time. Rockets really came out ahead on that deal. Who would of paid that contract demand with the third year poison pill? It's a shame because he played so well in Houston they got rid of him. Then he played so well on the Lakers that they dropped him.too. Now Charlotte, stay tuned. It's been 4 years and your still blaming Melo for losing your Lin? Let it go bro.
You are being naive if you truly believe Amare wasn't talking about Melo. Of course he was. He is not going to mention his name. He is not stupid. Who else was he talking about it? Jared Jeffries, Landry fields, Tyson & Shump? Those guys loved playing with Lin
If those two guys have squashed the beef about this, I wonder what us arguing about it is worth.
You are 109 l% correct but people should not be trying to rewrite history. Either ignore it if it's water need the bridge or move on
Everyone except Melo fans already moved on.
Knicks and Melo are drifting in opposite directions.
It's not Melo fault or achievement. It just the reality.
Time to put this all behind and start over for both sides.
And Melo fans can switch to Clips or Cavs blog sites.
If they are really Melo fans not MSG paid posters.
I don't know if everyone has moved on. NY media was able to get STat to go there again four years later and it got a reaction from some. I don't get the impression that those that think Melo chased Lin to Houston and forced him to sign his poison pill deal have moved on.
Why? A week almost went by before someone even brought it up. Amare's comments made the rounds everywhere else so there is obviously interest in this topic in Knicks nation. Why blame the fans here?
I think most here were over it and that was why it wasn't brought up. I thought the twitter stuff got it started here. Seems to stir passion in some even after four years and none of it substantiated.
Because casual fans bought into the Knicks PR machine and character assignation of Lin. They bought into the Stephen A. Smiths of the world and the people from Melo Enterprises that used Stephen to lift Melo and squash Lin.
Of course that lasted a few weeks into the season when it became clear that Lin was a much better fit here than Raymond James Felton. Highlighted of course by Lin as a Rocket lighting up the Knicks twice. That's when you heard the talking heads start to demolish Felton. His weight and how we didn't get the same MDA FELTON this time around
So the Knicks PR Machine, Stephen A., and people from Melo Enterprises? got Jeremy Lin and the Rockets to exploit a loop hole in the cba and give Lin one of only two poison pill contracts ever in the NBA that he negotiated and signed? Got it.
Lin also seemed to devide the Rockets fan base as well according to Clutchfans Rockers boards. People would post stuff up on here. Was all of the same with fanatics throwing everyone under the bus for Lin's shortcomings or decisions. I guess Melos PR team worked its way down to Houston.
Knicks had an opportunity to sign Lin long term without sending him to test free agent market
But for some reason they do not want to...
And this has nothing to do with Melo and Dolan... I guess...
Wouldn't explain his issues in Houston after he was far removed from NY. How much do you resign a guy for 7 games of greatness. But seemed to tail off somewhat afterward. He was getting lit up by opposing guards on a night to night basis with some good offensive night and some poor ones. Then got injured and missed the last 22 games of the season. I really don't think they were expecting a poison pill contract. The fact that the Rockets even felt the need to go that high...
Been through this road to many times though. That Rockets team ended up with Lin, Harden, Parsons, Howard. They should have won at least 15 championships.
Incredible how a small contingent of malcontents can disregard actual facts, both past and present and talk through their sphincters about Melo the franchise cancer driving the greatest PG in history off the team.
The Lin lovers were mostly casual fans or not even basketball fans at all who were attracted and remained attracted to linsanity with all the thought and insight of moths to a lighter.
and the idiocy of bringing up what ended up being a 15 minute NBA wonder feel good story that degenerated into a journeyman's career backing up 2nd level PG's never seems to get old with some of the "enlightened" folks on here...
