Because he's not 40 yet

The kids family's prayers were answered. It's a blessing he was not hurt worse. While everyone has the right to be safe no matter where they are and what they are doing, athletes must recognize that they are targets and must take extra precautions. It is a sad statement on increased crime levels and gang activity but you have to be aware of all threats. As I tell my kids, nothing good comes.of being out that late drinking and hanging out in bad places. I am thankful this kids career can be saved and that we are not talking about something much worse.

Nothing is guaranteed.

Here endeth the lession.

Very few players make it to the NBA without working hard. What he has accomplished already is something most of us can only dream of, so I'm not going to question his work ethic.

He made a mistake.

Most young people do things that seem risky too older people or even to themselves looking back. Usually, they get away with it and laugh about it later in life. He just got unlucky and paid a price.

Well read all opinions on this board, all have merit.

Its unfortunate but because CA is naïve (not full his fault) the Knicks org. need to step in and
make sure his health is ok (recovery).

But most importantly get with the younger knicks C.Early, D.Williams etc let them know they will always be targets
and they will need to be aware of it. This theft and robberies isn't uncommon for atheletes so how they proceed for
their safety and well being of their profession its a horrible lesson to learn.

Neither Williams nor Cle' Anthony lost their lives in the theft however its an alert that they need to perhaps
watch themselves in public New York area's such as seedy towns, places especially late late after 1 or 2am.
This cannot be taken for granted, if its important to be out on town these players (not the Knicks) need to hire
professional body guards OR enforcement as needed 'on demand'.

Look,
I have no status of these players, I used to often DJ at private affairs and towns, local boroughs
We would Deejay at Universities and also some wedding affairs (safe), basement functions ..etc

However all in all I've seen alot but not to extent of this crime, seen the BAD mixed in with GOOD of entertainment,
with some fights, some negative confrontations and bad escalations very few involved arms but some.
Often some trouble started with outsiders attending WE (bar bouncers) throw them out ! Sometimes bad ramifications & threats ensued.
Got to know when to hold em' & when to fold em' like old Kenny Rogers says

We all got to live our lifes correct ??.

But ultimate responsibility lies within myself at those times to be SAFE. This is same for CleAnthony Early and D.Williams
whom are at no fault for their robbery mishaps.

What they are involved with is their CHOICEs they made.
Many of these guys Like Early and Williams haven't lived in areas as Brooklyn OR Queens long enough, though I hear Early was from Bronx?
Thus their Choices need to be BETTER going forward Only the Knicks players in mention can control that & their situations.

Our Knicks mgmt. brass involvement is to ADVISE and provide support , counseling to let these players know they have a job as NYK's.
Thus these robbery stories are not new here especially in NYC but lets not fully blame the City Or Queens, Manhattan for the
NYK players choices at 1a - 5am in the wee early morning.

Those times of robberies and murders are a given,
So we all got to be aware those things can & will happen unless you chance habits, and YOUR actions are sole controllable factors
is my point, when you go out.

New Rules

Players need to be mobile. They make appearances and are expected to be the face of the franchise. The franchise needs to get serious with training camp orientation. Give players valid, street-level information to help navigate the city. Veteran players need to also step up with guidance and travel tips.

No more superficial media training sessions for rookies. Each should be assigned a mentor and/ or guidance counselor. What is the point of having six assistant coaches if they are not going to be involved in comprehensive player wellness?

For any professional player in NEW YORK to NOT have a 24 hour car service is ridiculous.

To kick it with any woman, before doing a background check, is insane. Too many are professional hustlers.

You want strippers? Hire a stripper service through the private concierge offered by the franchise, or not at all. You need a walk on the wild side? Travel to Amsterdam in the off season, where sex for hire is legal and monitored.

Bag man optional.

It looks like Early is going to be okay but . . . an injury that takes a couple of months to recover from is always a bit iffy--and takes a few miles off his knees--and presumably his year for the Knicks is over. This seems to the last year of his rookie contract. I will not be surprised if the Knicks don't resign him, even if he'll sign for a song. Not really a good year for Early to, ahem, get shot in the knee.

I certainly understand being 24--I'm pretty sure I was 24 at some point but thankfully that's so long ago that I have only vague memories of my many stupids--but the Knicks, as an organization, seem to perpetually act like they are 24. It's not like the Early incident happened in a vacuum. Williams made the cover of the Post (never a good thing), Fisher got into a fight (it may not have been Fishers fault, the details are still a bit sketchy but no coach-player fight is ever good) and JR partied right through the playoffs. Remember this Knicks classic: http://nypost.com/2013/05/16/rihanna-knicks-smith-has-been-hungover-from-clubbing-every-night/.

(Just an aside but . . . as for the city being more dangerous . . . nope. While it's true that the Manhattan Institute creeps and the NYPost are screaming that de Balsio is driving the city into the ground and that turing off stop and frisk and getting back to real policing is running the crime rate up . . . it ain't true. The city is safer than it has ever been and, if anything, the new policies are making everyone a bit safer. I'm sure that the Early shooting will show up time and again as evidence that the city is going to hell under our (ha!) crazy commie mayor but I'd say it's just as likely that the incident ends up motivating the players union and the league to do more gun control ads/events, a good outcome in my book.)
