Come on man, they won 34 games and had Odom and Butler, both all-star caliber players far better than anyone on the knicks. Kobe has always played with talent, but never won without a superstar big man alongside him.

whats the point of all this?

Are we trying to compare Melo to Kobe? Kobe is obviously the much better player but he has his own flaws and was also a super chucker.

I am not comparing him to Melo. I thought Kobe was being overrated by only mentioning Smush as his running mate, when he in fact had 2 other borderline stars playing alongside him. I personally think Kobe is relatively overrated as far as his career success, which is not to say he isn't an all-time great still.

Right..Smush Parker, Odom, Bynum...Melo hurt and playing half year with d leaguers..Yeah same thing...

I was being generous. Most of those 17 wins came without Melo. I believe they had 7 wins or so with Melo for 2/3rds of the season

When Kobe doesn't have talent he turns into arguably the most selfish player in the game.

Shaq is likely one of the 10 greatest players ever to play the game. Can someone please tell me when Melo played next to someone that was averaging 27pts 12rbs 3ass 2blks every year?

The guy had Odom, Gasol and Bynum.

You took MJ off the Bulls they almost went to the coference finals. Pippen was a top 30 player all-time.

Let's see what happens when we give the guy one All-Star player before trashing him.

so they are equal until proven otherwise?

Don't judge Melo against others who had better teammates than him (or use chucker kobe as an argument).

Does Melo elevate his teammates? NOT NEARLY ENOUGH

these excuses are over.

He is a very good player who struggles terribly with a team concept.

I remember seeing the frustration on Prigs face when he was wide open for 3 and Melo would rather force a TERRIBLE shot against a double/triple team.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

That's where things get a little muddy. They aren't succeeding just because they are no longer playing with Melo. There are so many factors that play into their current success that get conveniently ignored by some.

yeah ... there are other factors too. But Melo is the biggest one and its probably our fault since we were a bit fooled and overrated him.

Now at least most agree that he should be a #2 and pass the ball a lot more.

Amare was a black hole bonehead that did not help either.

As of now, the Melo signing looks absolutely terrible and (...let me put on my Nixluva suit...) Phil is not happy!

I don't agree that he is the biggest but I am with you on everything else.

as long as he continues to not move the ball and dribble it into the ground and chuck instead of pass, his teammates will mostly look terrible.

He needs to create to pass sometimes instead of always looking to create his own shot.

If his shot is off, the team is screwed! He can't make up for it like other top tier star.

Oh yeah I agree. Unfortunately, it comes down to respect for him. If he is playing with a respected point guard, then he defers. If he knows he is miles ahead of his teammates in terms of talent, then he can get selfish.
Knicksfan: Hypocrite league that fines players after the game for flopping but in the game and with obvious flopping they call the fouls.

Kobe was a bit overrated on offense. Phil tried to get rid of him numerous times because he kept breaking the offense.

Overall, he was still a great player though.

Shaq on the other hand was one of the most dominating players that I ever watched and if anything, underrated.

Yes in the old days I feared playing the Lakers not because of Kobe but because of Shaq. He would eat the older Ewing alive. Ewing would instantly be in foul trouble trying to man up and guard Shaq. It's a shame Kobe was such a dick. They could've won more rings together and Wade, Riley & The Heat would probably have 0 championships instead of 3

exactly ... which is why he needs to be a 2nd or 3rd star. In many ways, he just doesn't get it.

Off the ball, he is one of the best I have ever seen. With the ball, he is a disaster.

Look at Houston and how they share the ball even though many of the players are borderline stiffs.

In todays game, you hit the open guy no matter who it is. If you don't trust him enough to pass him the ball then he should be on the bench.

This year, I made it my business to look at every single play with Carmelo in the post and all the open men they he blatantly ignored. It was hard to stomach.

Like DK said they were simply gassed the final 3 games of this series. Houston was fresh off a 5 game series and give Houston credit. They refused to lose. Great job by Mchale getting Smith to contribute and as always great job by Ariza(ex-Knick) who always elevates his performance in the playoffs and is invaluable defensively and doing the little things to win in the playoffs.

ariza hit a couple of big 3s from the corner. guess who was "guarding" him on the last backbreaker?

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Yup. Kobe is really a dik and the biggest narcissist

Ewing was nothing close to shaq ... he was unstoppable even though he was a bad FT shooter.

Shaq hates kobe with a passion to this day.

Melo is not the sh1t head that Kobe is. He is just way to in love with his own shot and not even Phil over numerous dinners can explain that to him.

It's interesting how Ariza's career took off in LA playing next to dikhead Kobe. He'd probably be out of the league if he was playing with Melo at the time.

I hope Shump stays in Cleveland and gets to play with Lebron for the rest of his career. I would be thrilled for him.

Melo doesn't compare to Kobe. Kobe was a star 2-way player. But he struggled when he didn't have hall of fame players next to him. And yes, Shaq was very underrated. He was far more dominant than kobe during their respective careers. I can't believe Shaq was only a 1-time MVP.

Lets compare to someone else, not kobe. The only think that Melo has in common with Kobe is being extremely selfish.
