Phil could have easily told him what you just posted

Hey Melo you've made 7 All-NBA teams and Player Of The Months

You're weight and conditioning are fine by me

Im sorry... when did Phil say Melo has baby fat? Is this a real quote or an I pretend to know everything in Melo's world and he's fat and lazy quote? Please product a link....

He informed all players who would return this year to be in better shape

He qualified all players while acknowledging//////

J.R. Smith and Shumpert not being in shape due to summer injury rehab

Connect the Dots, no one was singled out

Therefore no need to feel he wasn't speaking to any one fan favorite either

where? Show me... really curious to see if those were his words.

This would make sense based on what I read from you:

Phil "I expect everyone to show in great shape next year"
F5 hears: "Melo is fat and out of shape"

It does add up. Im only suprised you didnt start a new thread. Cutting edge ultimateKnick poster and all...

In shape for one coach and scheme may not be in shape for another coach or scheme. Sometimes the same coach might change the directive of the teams S&C. It just depends. Athletes fluctuate all the time according to Team goals, personal goals and development.

Take it to a different sport. Linemen that are in shape for Mike Tice(ATL OL coach) may not be in shape for an Alex Gibbs(former Denver OL coach) type system. It just depends on the system and direction of the team and player. Also, most older guys like to reduce weight to help their joints.

One thing with Melo specifically as a Knick is that he goes into the off season as a 3 but due to injuries comes out as a 4.

All in all it doesn't matter what kind of shape is if he doesn't play well and the teams doesn't play well.

Being a bit lighter should only help him in playing in the Triangle and the way that Phil and Fish want him to play from now on. It seems that Phil wants more of the Olympic Melo rather than the ISO Melo of last year. Phil talks about moving and cutting rather than stopping the flow of the offense. Tho there will be times when he'll have to ISO, there should be more times when he can score in the flow of the offense on catch and shoot plays and get some easy buckets on cuts. That's where being lighter should help him be more active and stay on the move.

I agree with you, athletes do change with system. I think Phil has told Melo to get in shape, because his role is going to change. Less ISO and post ups, more movement without the ball.

Beautiful. Thanks for the leg-work on that. Clearly, Melo is Eddy Curry and Jerome James 2.0 lol.

I don't buy into losing weight will mean that Melo will get pushed around more. I dropped 40 lbs over a summer and I was faster and stronger. Some of the regulars on my court back in NY knew that I was a lot thinner and thought they could muscle me in the paint but that never happened, they were pretty big themselves. Melo will be even harder to keep up with, good news.

all these jayvee season accolades and one conference finals appearance in 12 years.

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

Nine of those player of the week awards were in the months of March and April. Three of the player of the month awards were in April and March. This doesn't align with what 3G is saying:
He doesn't maintain the conditioning as season progresses

exactly. Just look at pictures Melo from the start to finish of the season. He clearly needs to watch what he eats during the season since he doesnt have the time to get in shape like during the offseason

I haven't laughed this hard in quite some time//////

Rationalizing winning meaningless end of season month awards when half the league is in shutdown mode

But not touching on the mediocre results this supreme in shape athlete produces a couple weeks later

If he's in shape in April why does he train like a triathlete/UFC fighter from as early as May-Jun to drop weight

Logic seems to escape a chosen crew, meanwhile a simpleton even gets this

If you're an athlete especially in basketball, there's no need to argue this point. Losing weight is needed so melo can play multiple positions. Weight and strength are not related. As long as he's gaining or maintaining muscle strength he's fine.

The real story is not about melo losing weight. ... but how he had to stretch the picture to show lebron and the nba that he loss weight. I think he's the same size. I just hope he's faster and stronger. ...

Have the Knicks been in shut down the previous two Aprils when he got player of the month? Maybe I am watching the wrong games but I find the play and the games to mean more in the spring.

Some teams are trying to make the playoffs, others are trying to move up to get home court advantage. They aren't just packing it in.

And almost half the teams are tanking or positioning for the Lottery

I don't buy that teams who wont be making the playoffs are necessarily tanking. Some coaches are fighting for their jobs, others wont out of principle. I'm sure that some teams are tanking, but not every team out of the playoff hunt.

Its a nice award, not terribly important, but at the same time being voted the best player in the league over the course of a month, any month is nothing to look down on.
