Once Sac cuts him, I wouldn't be surprised if Phil picked him up, if we had an open spot. But Phil is tryin to build a team for the Melo era....which is now! I think Acy is a keeper.....If not, his value is slightly higher than Tyler, and will be used in a future trade. These are the kinds of non sexy moves the knicks need.

I don't think you can re-sign a player that is traded and then cut? I remember we already had this "problem" before.
I wouldn't mind Tyler as a project, would prefer it actually. Got to be really patient with big men.

Gotta love it -- get up to take a piss in the middle of the night, and see that we made a trade...LOL

My 1st reaction is the trade's OK. Not great either way, just OK....I like Acy a hell of a lot more than Tyler. That part of the deal I like and consider an upgrade...I actually liked Ellington but the Knicks obviously felt he wasn't part of the plans. The deal does alleviate some congestion at the 2... I agree with what some are saying about Outlaw -- his play has really fallen off since his Portland days. Not sure he'll be much of a factor. I'd much rather see Early play and develop on the fly, Thanasis too. Agree with Nix -- it should push Early that much more to show what he's got, so I like that angle.... Definitely signals Thanasis will either start the year in Europe or in the DL, not on the roster but you never know...The 'lifting the protection' off the pick is probably no big deal, but I do agree with some that are saying it's a bad habit to keep involving picks in every deal we make. Feel the same way...I know, I know -- we didn't even own the pick, just protection 31-37 on it, but still. I agree that this deal could've easily been done w/o including this....Just reading that there was a version of this deal that had Pablo going to Utah in a 3-team trade and that Utah backed out last min.. I wonder if that version was more favorable or not....I guess when the Kings signed this Eric Moreland, that made Acy expendable....Acy for Ellington is the key takeaway here and it feels like comparable value being exchanged, so I'm basically good....Could we have gotten what we needed by just signing a comparable big man to Acy (Richard Howell, Daniel Orton?) and signed another SF with much more promise than Travis Outlaw (Devin Ebanks, Jordan Hamilton maybe?) while keeping Ellington, the pick protection, etc.? Yes---in fact that's the route I would've taken but I don't see any damage done here. We added toughness/defense/rebounding/depth at the 4 spot which I thought we needed while clearing up a little roster congestion. Not bad..

I've always liked Quincy Acy. My buddy LOVES this guy!! The toughness/defense/rebounding etc. are constants but there's some real nice potential here as an offensive player as well. We've talked about Mike Scott recently and the progress he's made as an offensive player since he's gone pro -- why couldn't Acy achieve that same level of play as well? The man's capable:

Nothing sexy but he got rid of Ellington which was what he wanted to do.

NO YOU DIDN'T.. lol YOU WENT from Jeremy tyler high upside, to "when is he going to get playing time".. I find this to be a trend around here when guys are shipped out.... so now Quincy Acy=good, and tyler= blah!!!

Yeah sometimes it's hard to grasp why certain players were included in trades.

Maybe a comment could have been made////

'Hate to see Tyler go he seemed like he was coming along but Acy is a guy we could use'

If Tyler has "huge upside" may find out on a team like Sacramento.

I think it was a triangle issue

tyler has quickly become mr. forgotten man.. LOL..wow.. that is why you just put too much stock into guys trying to talk guys up with you tube videos... makes you wonder if fans really believe what they say or they are blindly following every move made by their team..

Hey it happened with Lin & Felton. This is no where near as devasting a trade

is that what you call it? really? how about churching up every move as if it is great...

Let's be honest here- you just do the opposite- poo poo basically every move as if it's an abomination. Which is fine, but if you're going to do that then I'd rather read some optimistic posts to balance it out. Plus you churn up every Denver move as if its great so really you're being a bit of a hypocrite! Oh they traded for Iggy- 'GREAT MOVE!' Oh they lost Iggy for nothing- 'No big deal still a great trade at the time!'

If Phil makes ten total moves this off-season, I guarantee you nixluva will love all ten of them!

lol.. no kidding...

And you two will hate all ten moves or just stay quiet if you secretly like the move but for some bizarre reason don't want to acknowledge it.

So I suppose this trade means no more K-Mart, which is a shame- we seemed to win a lot of games when he was healthy. No idea what his ankle issues are and whether he can recover, but I was hoping to have him back.

Also it looks like we're keeping Shump, Jr and Tim Jr.

Here is an article on Travis Outlaw when he signed with the Nets- it will give you an idea as to how far off the face of the earth he has fallen since then:

Here’s what they have in the 6-9, 210-pound Outlaw: They get a guy who, when healthy, got the ball in crunch time for a 54-win team – and a guy who produced as one of the best fourth-quarter scorers in the NBA from 2007 to 2009.
During his last two full seasons in Portland, he was indisputably one of the most exciting sixth men in the NBA, averaging 13.3 points in ’07-08 and 12.8 points in ’08-09.
Moreover, he is very good 3-point threat, hitting 38 percent from downtown his last three seasons -- and he has the courage to take that shot with the game on the line.

The 25-year-old Starkville, Miss., native had a washout season in ’09-10 after breaking his left foot last November, and then he was part of the deal that delivered Marcus Camby to the Trail Blazers. After recovering from his injury, he played in only 23 games for the L.A. Clippers (six starts) and averaged 8.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in 22 minutes per game.

http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/2010/07/nets_acquire_travis_outlaw.html

(amusingly that article says the Nets chose him over Kyle Korver because Korver was "too one dimensional to give a 5 year contract")

Don't know if he never fully recovered from the broken foot, or whether he just lost his fire (he's looked like a zombie for years, but if yon look at the old Blazer highlights he looked full of passion), but once you've lost it for as long as he has, you never get it back. I expect him to play like Brewer did once his confidence was shot!

Just have to trade JR now

Maybe JR & Prigs for young players

The excuse to trade JR is already in place. HE WAS A DISTRACTION

Waiting for Ron Ron's three page analysis before the trade can become official.

Small moves add up.. Where IS Phil ultimately going? This season? Two seasons? Three?
Tyler was a nice young player who likely did not fit in for some reason.

The bar is different, its higher as is the criteria.

still months away and lots of roster changes to make. stay tuned.

Meanwhile, JR Tweets are reduced.

Eh this trade was basically to get rid of ellington. It doesnt help or hurt us IMO. I know people like Tyler but i dont see the potential. he can soto fr a big guy but he doenst play like a big man on the boards r on defense.

gotta love it... dont hear anything from tfk for a week, then he comes in, posts like 5 times in a row with one douche comment after another trashing anyone who think positively and vanishes... great guy.

Acy is like a very poor man's JYD. Lost of energy. I suspect we traded our guys who wont play for their guys who wont play.

I could have cared less about Tyler. Some here were high on him, I was not. Struck me as robotic and predictable. When his 2-3 moves were working he looked great. When they werent he had nothing. He was also the biggest strongest dude in that Chinese league he played in and his numbers were utterly average.

With Bargs and Amare made of glass I could definatly see Acy having a meaningful stretch for the Knicks. I could never picture that from Tyler.

Just be glad that Jackson is at work making moves, not just pining away for 2015. Don't believe he is doing this just to look busy, there is some kind of a plan at work here. Would rather have Jackson making these decisions than Mills(and Dolan), that's for sure.
