Anyone recall the thread I started about Phil's Hubris?
It was pretty damn unpopular at the time, but now I believe it can be seen in a different light. I do think Phil convinced himself he would nudge Melo to up his level and to make the sacrifices on the court necessary to play a better brand of ball.
Or it could be that the more cynical interpretation is more true which is Phil cashed in on his reputation. $60M is an insane deal really. Phil may have been willing to sell ice to eskimos for that money and puff up Melo as part of his sales pitch to both Melo and the public.
Melo is not the sharpest tool in the shed. Phil probably convinced him he would transform into a butterfly.
And the public was desperate and Dolan did what he always does and made the expensive purchase. Phil played along.
Either way, the fantasy that Melo could change looks like it is finally discredited as I knew it would be.
Phil is next in line to be roasted. He looks like he deserves it too.
